Really good pre-theatre meal at Aster early Saturday evening. We had a window table on the first floor, service was prompt and friendly, food very good (the starters, Aster Cured Salmon and the Pork Roll, were especially good). Food of this quality in central London is usually a lot more expensive, so it was very good value.
It is a very noisy venue, although this was not a problem for us. Music was annoying, though - same beats over and over.

The service and food were great!
The portions could be slightly bigger, specially the desert portions proportionately to their value.

The music at breakfast time was loud, as if I was in a nightclub. The porridge was runny. The service was friendly but pre-occupied with their own conversations.

Felt very busy for the amount of staff... took ages to get served initially but then once the first order was taken the staff were more attentive. The mains were very good but the deserts were quite poor... style over substance. It's not a bad restaurant but the prices cost higher than the value it delivers.

Very good small plates on the Theater menu. Wait staff was very cognizant of Theater reservations and served drinks and food promptly. Because of the proximity to the theaters they asked as we were seated if we had reservations.

Booked for a pre-theatre dinner, booked the pre-theatre meal. Staff aware. Arrived in plenty of time. Lovely restaurant and lovely food but service absolutely awful, had 12 minutes to eat a main-course before running for the theatre (next door). I imagine it could have been a lovely meal and experience, a shame it was ruined by awful, incompetent, inexperienced staff serving us.

I ate here because I was meeting a client for breakfast. It is a welcome addition to the Victoria area. Until Aster opened the only other option for breakfasts was M:Grill which is, frankly, a well-decorated, but dark cellar with unhappy staff moping around like the drudges of a vampire.

Aster was busy, the atmosphere was great for breakfast, it's location is brilliant, and the decor is bright, fresh and has a seasonal feel. The service was kind of all over the place though, our coffee was delivered to our table without milk and the waiter rushed off so quickly that I had to get up, chase him and ask for some milk only after I could catch him at the other end of the restaurant. Also, the head waiter gave one of her team a dressing down in the middle of the restaurant. Whether it was deserved or not, I really don't care, it is more the fact that I get told off at work all the time (because I spend too much time writing restaurant reviews) so I don't really want to pay to see it happen to someone else.

Listen though, Victoria has very little in the way of decent breakfast restaurants where you can take a client and so, I think that Aster, if it just polishes it's service a little bit could really a place I would recommend highly and go back to again and again.

A big space on two floors with sparse modern design and the obligatory mirrored bar. Better for a quick meal than a leisurely one. A short menu but a well-executed duck confit.

Unfortunately our meal at Aster was not very good and we would not dine there again. While the restaurant has spent considerable effort and money on an amazing decor and ambiance, they have neglected the food. There was nothing to stand out on the menu, and the food itself was average at best. Even the chips were clearly standard mass produced frozen chips. For a restaurant of this quality and price you would expect homemade chips. The ceviche was not a real ceviche, but more a sashimi or raw fish and some sauce. And the steak was far too overcooked with poor presentation. The service was friendly enough and the cocktail/wine list was sufficient. Overall the restaurant gave an impression its food couldn't live up to.

It was a shame because husband and I were there for a date night to treat ourselves, but left feeling that we would have had a far tastier meal at one of the cheaper burger or pizza restaurants around the corner. We definitely will not be returning and would not recommend Aster to anyone.

I have been here a number of times but recent visits have been disappointing. Ate downstairs as the upstairs restaurant (which I had booked) was shut for a function. There was a long wait to be shown the table, delay before being asked whether we wanted a drink and then a very long wait till our order was taken. Noise level with the background music was much too high - this really should be sorted. Food ok, but has previously been much better. Someone needs to get a grip as this could be a very good place.

I booked this restaurant through evening standard offer as I had such great experiences in all other places, but was very disappointed with this place. I went for prawn salad to start with which was very bland, just couple of leaves thrown on the plate with scattered prawns and couple of pieces of salmon. I can do better at home. Not a place I would get back to.

Had the herring caviar for starter which was grim, just taste and consistency of egg mayonnaise.

Main was very good however, confit duck was really good and the staff were friendly.

Overall a mixed bag, probably wouldn’t recommend as there are plenty of far better restaurants in the centre of London.

We booked Aster as its very close the theatre and the al la carte menu is available all day. I'm not a big fan of set menu's. The concept of Scandinavian also appealed. Overall it was decent without being great. One plus side was, the service, the wine list and the position. Down side was it was expensive, and the menu was very main stream. A local brassiere would do the steak and chips better for cheaper.
Small point and I'm not sure whether the restaurant could do much about, but the external glazing of which there's a lot, was an absolute mess!

Great food, salmon nicely down with lovely beetroot pairing with it. The music is a bitoud for sunday morning though, would be just right if its in the afternoon or evening. The only thing is that there are no tools offered to help with eating the langoustine and because we changed from one main course to 2courses for lunch, waitress put in the machine as two separate dishes so we were charged £5 extra or else is is great bargain £21 for 2 courses.

Excellent value for money Evening Standard menu. Caught up with a friend over a bite to eat and both of us had been meaning to try out Aster for a while. We were not disappointed. Beautiful decor, excellent service, delicious food and overall a great addition to the otherwise quite poor Victoria dining scene.

Monday night after-work supper with friends. Attractive venue located super-conveniently just across from Victoria tube station which was great for those of us with further to travel. Very easy menu - dishes appear either French or Nordic (rather than fusion) and were tasty. Cheese plate was rather skinny and not very interesting but everything else was very enjoyable. Would come again.

Aster's new menu has seen the previous inventiveness and quality decline. Food was pleasant but pretty unspectacular and lack flavour and creativity and was very overpriced. Service was sporadically attentive but inconsistent, the live singer downstairs at times distracting and misplaced and the wine list is very limited and overpriced.

We had some problems at the beginning with sitting, but then we get a private room upstairs for seven people. We weren't expecting the DJ on the first floor on Saturday at 3 pm. So we were pleased to get the private room with a fantastic vibe and atmosphere.
We also didn't expect brunch menu on Saturday afternoon, which was extremely limited and we get upset because there were no French courses at all...
Even though food disappointed us, the atmosphere was wonderful.

One more thing to give a credit for, one person at the restaurant unexpectedly even for himself experiences severe allergy symptoms, the manager acted professionally and quick. Before the ambulance arrived he kept checking on him.

An ambulance arrived in 5 minutes and the guest received required treatment. Hope that he is okay
