Wonderful dining experience. The food was exceptional in a beautiful atmosphere.
Good restaurant with a little ways to go to live up to the menu and the hype. Standards like Greek salad and spanikopita were average. More ambitious dishes like red snapper and short ribs were good. Attractive space, many seafood choices, good service. Waited about twenty-thirty minutes for table even though we had reservation, but we were comfortably seated at the bar, so it was OK.
Always a great experience! We love Athos!
I reserved a table for the evening to check out the food and service for an upcoming event. We were not disappointed. The staff was extremely courteous and made us welcome. The co-owner, Mr. Sokaris periodically checked to see if we had questions, and also explained the menu items. I highly recommend Athos.
Great meal and service as usual.
Our favorite local restaurant!
Athos is one of the most consistent restaurants I have ever been to. They never let down, no matter what day if the week it is!
On a busy Friday evening, our party of four's fare included:
- a dip trio of TZATZIKI, HUMMUS, and SKORDALIA, with pita: very good (especially the first two)
- an okra-centric soup of the day: excellent (I thought, although some of our quartet disagreed)
- KOLOKITHAKIA (zucchini chips), which delighted at least two of us)
- SPANAKOPITA: the orderer pronounced that dish good, but not the best she's had
And the following entrees, all of which were good:
- MOUSSAKA: very good
- CHICKEN SAGANAKI
- And two more that escape me at the moment.
The service was friendly and efficient. The prices are moderate to expensive (but not excessively slow).
The one drawback: we all thought that the noise level was too high. This is in the dining area, not the bar area, mind you. Perhaps some sound-deadening material could be installed on the ceiling and walls. As it was, normal-level conversation -- which we value during dinner -- among us was very difficult to impossible.
Barring that, a nice experience.
Wonderful menu, food, service, ambiance. Our favorite restaurant.
Incredible food, amazing selection and comfortable atmosphere
My daughter and I shared several appetizers. They were delish, better than my mom's. Sorry mom!
We all had a wonderful experience and dinner at Athos. I even mentioned it to people who live in the area who had never been. Worth the trip for sure.
The meal was outstanding. Flaming saganaki and excellent fish. Please go and enjoy
I have been to Athos many times, but this time something felt different. We were 3 at dinner, and one of the dinners, the roast lamb, was gristly and tough. The other dishes were ok, but not as tasty as they used to be. I hope this is a temporary problem, because this was one of my favs.
Absolutely recommended. One of the best restaurants in Albany NY. Ambiance was great and food was delicious too.
Dinner with the family was outstanding! Can’t wait to go back!
The menu is serves a variety of Greek dishes, including the classics (moussaka, pastitsio, dolmades). Less well known but especially notable are daily specials that include the grilled whole fish. Everytime I've dined at Athos I've been impressed by the freshness of the food. The service is uniformly good/excellent and waiters will team up to ensure that all the entrees for one table are delivered on time and the whole fish prepared and deboned. There is an extensive wine cellar visible from the bar and the Greek wine selection is good. The noise level is moderate. The only drawback is that the restaurant tends to be expensive for some of the classic dishes. The expense is mitigated by the large portions and some specials that include dessert and salads or soups. Overall, I would save my dining experiences at Athos for special occasions.
It would have been a 5 except there were none in my salmon entree
The food was superbly prepared and delicious. The server was attentive and helpful. The background noise was lively. a truly enjoyable evening was had by everyone in party. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We love that greek joint. Food is excellent, good selection of greek wine and great service. Icing on the cake is the price compare to the NY area where we live. Don’t miss the Saganaki.
One of the best restaurants in the Capital Region. A true gem.
We’re from out of town headed to a memorial service in Niskayuna and Athos was the perfect spot to rendezvous. Two couples from different cities met up and had a lovely light supper on a Thursday evening. They accommodated our limited time frame and served wonder gyros. The Star was the lamb sliders. Definitely worth a stop on our next trip through the region.
Loved it. Food was superb and service was great.
Wonderful as always!
Started with happy hour. Bartenders were very friendly. Prices good for happy hour drinks. Great group of people at the bar. Seemed to be regulars. Dinner was excellent. I had red snapper and a beet salad. Everything was very fresh.
Food, service, everything.
The perfect Greek restaurant experience.
We visited on a Sunday Evening and were glad we made reservations as it got very busy after 6:30. The food was excellent, especially the lamb dishes. Nice cocktails. We were too full for dessert.
Everything was great until I got my chicken souvlaki and there were two big chunks of meat that were still pink and not cooked all the way through. I was very excited to try Athos but unfortunately do not think i will be coming back
Always, fabulous!! Food and service are outstanding!
Service was excellent. Our waitress was very diligent and personable. Vegetable special left something to be desired. Not very interesting or good. Mixture of tasteless over cooked vegetables.
Excellent food, varied menu within Greek cuisine, thoughtful service, attractive ambiance, good value.
The food was fantastic and they have never disappointed us
Our service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and tastefully appointed. The food was very good. There was a jazz band playing in the bar that set a perfect mood to the night. We’ll be back again.
We've been to Greece twice. The food was delicious. Service was great. Wine was amazing. This was typical greek food from the mainland. This seriously reminded us of eating in delfi or santorini. We will go back again and again.
Nothing beats Greek night for great food, cocktails and friends! Isn't every night Greek night?
The food and service were solid as usual. The lighting was really dark in the bar and made it difficult to read the menus.
, Nice services and delicious food, really good environment, good menu and music
Have been coming for years and love this place every time.
I met some friends here for dinner. We had a great time. The food was very good!
Both my son and I loved Athos. So much so that we ate there two nights in a row. We were in Albany for him to take the NY Bar and liked the relaxed quiet atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was exceptional. The first evening we had the Hanger steak and jumbo prawns (jumbo shrimp, slowly simmered in a tomato, garlic, herb, and ouzo sauce with feta cheese),
and the chicken lemon soup. The second night we had the lamb chops and the chicken skewers. I cannot tell you how delicious each dish was that we had. We also and the grilled octopus that both of us said was one of the best we ever had. Service was so nice and attentive without being overbearing. The fresh and hot pita bread served was very good. So if you live in Albany you must make Athos a regular stop on your list of restaurants and if you are in Albany for a visit then make it a least one of your dinning destinations (or go twice like we did).
A classy restaurant serving traditional Greek and Mediterranean cuisine at affordable prices. Excellent wine list and plenty of small plates to sample. Highly recommended.
