We loved every bit of our time at Au Za'atar. It's beautiful inside. The service was great and the food was amazing. We couldn't eat enough this time and we'll definitely be back to try more.
great vegetable selection, wonderful meat - quiet - no bottomless booze which means no noisy drunk 20 somethings - bliss!
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, we are returning guest and we like the restaurant so much.
Great and healthy food!! I highly recommend Au Za’atar.
Service was very poor. Food was tasty but not worth the $$$. We ordered 2 tableside shawarmas, both were delicious but were cold (shawarmas should be served hot). Plus, there were no dinner plates, we all (party of 7) ate from app plates. Never going back!
Air conditioning did not work well. It would have been better to sit outside on hot night. Service was fin though a bit slow. The food was good though it was hard to get enough pita and some of it was burnt. The hot skillets they bring out the entres on are to how for the summer day with no air. Wait till the fall, you will enjoy yourselves way more.
Slow service and horrible customer service
Food was great but overall space of restaurant tiny and claustrophobic. We were a large party and I sat behind a booth against the wall and felt like I was going to suffocate. To top it off it was really hot in the restaurant
Food was excellent and fresh. Service was a little slow, but it was late so probably just tired staff; everyone is really nice though. Table side shawarma was worth it, and the dessert and apps so fresh and tasteful! Definitely visit and enjoy!
So my Aunt cannot walk and we had to drop her off at the entrance then go find parking. My wife took her inside 15 minutes before our reservation time and it took us a while to find parking. Me and my cousin arrived 10 min after the reservation time after parking the car and walking quite a ways. My wife and aunt were seated at the restaurant by then. The waitresses were very rude in pressuring them to order food even after my wife explained the situation to them. Then the rest of the evening they showed a lot of attitude and we were not waited on properly. I hope this was a unique experience. The food itself was delicious and plentiful (albeit expensive). They also tried to short change us in terms of getting us the wrong dish until we noticed it was a smaller size of what we had ordered.
Elona’s service was great. Small and crowded. Unique experience with the mini shawarma. Overall great 👍.
We ordered the table side shawarma. It was a unique and amazing dining experience. The food was well seasoned and delicious! The staff was wonderful, welcoming and very attentive.
Service was really slow but food was good. Honestly it's over priced but the frozen drinks were some of the best I've had. It's worth a try
Good food. Authentic. Good ambiance though a little too loud
This was my first time at au Za'atar, and twice for some family members. I have already recommended it to friends. Can't wait to return.
The food was amazing! No complaints!
Surprise friends dinner
One of my favorite restaurant in nyc
2 blocks from my place, I go there as often as I can and the food is amazing !! Staff is great too, always a pleasure to see Rachid, he’s great
The hummus and the tahini was very sour, over using of lemon, the meet was hard and dry, the lamb was horrible, just horrible!, like chewing rubber.
Way over priced food for such a poor quality.
Definitely not going back there ever.
Delicious food and fun dinner for friends
The food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!
We really enjoyed Au Za'atar's tableside Shawarma. It was a lot of food and was sooo good!!
Horrible service, never stepping in again, don’t recommend to anyone. Waiter was so rude, sat my friends outside when I had a table reserved for inside, he refused to move us inside and gave us the check so we can pay for the water they brought and we left than. Never again.
I ordered the tableside schwarma (lamb) and I was sitting outside, as well as a Fatoush salad. watermelon juice & glass of wine with my date. One thing I wish that was mentioned online was that if you order the tableside schwarma outside they have to cook it fully in the kitchen which took an hour since they can't plug in the grill outside. We were warned as we sat outside, but I did plan this date to be outdoors and to order specifically that dish. The schwarma was good, but somehow was arrived to the table cold and I wish they gave less fries and more meat, but seriously the meat was seasoned very well. The Fatoush salad was disappointing, I've had Lebanese food many times and usually that salad in other places is more crisp and fresh and has a lot more sumac. Some of the leaves looked like they were sitting in dressing for awhile and again, I was really looking forward to more sumac spice. Overall, it was nice and staff and ambiance was nice, but I doubt I would go back it was just the novelty that I wanted checked off my list.
Great service and all, but if you get that table side shawarma, it will be a terrible experience. Low value for what it costs (~$100) and extremely inconvenient with the heat on your face and tiny pieces of bread you’re provided. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone looking for a good dinner experience.
Good food, mint lemonade is a must !!
Real authentic arabic food the way it should be!
Wonderful food! Beautiful ambiance and intimate feel. Highly recommend!
The first time I went to this restaurant, I had a great experience! So, I dared to go back a second time, and received terrible service. First my husband and I waited at the host stand for 10 minutes for someone to give us our table reservation-when a staff member finally came, she completely ignored us!! Then after we get her attention, she proceeds to tell me she doesn't see my reservation, and then offers to sit us outside in the cold. So I show her my opentable confirmation, THEN she somehow finds my reservation! After we ordered our entrees, they send another waiter to double check our order (weird). Then, they bring out my husbands food before mine, and I sat there waiting for my food for 30 minutes after him!! They then casually drop off my plate to me as if it was no big deal that my husband was finished with his food as it was getting cold and he had no choice but to eat. By the time my food came I was full! I then complain to the waitress of why the food was not timed to come out together like ANY normal functioning food establishment would, which she responded to with a blank look. At the end, no one offered to adjust the check or give us something extra to make up for an awkward dinner!! Will definitely not be returning to this restaurant, and if they are reading this- you need to hire more competent staff!! It is being run by amateurs!
The lamb shoulder is amazing, deliciously garnished.
Went in the to try the at the table shawarma and it was really delicious. The fries was beyond the best fries I’ve ever had and the mint lemonade was so refreshing. Definitely recommend to try this experience!
Food was amazing .
Outstanding food, exceptional service. Cant wait to go back.
Great restaurant, phenomenal food and service
Really good food!!!! My first time dining and if you like lebanese food this is the spot ! Service was great!
Food was great, hummus was not as thick as expected, did not get my preferred requested seat so kept getting bumped a lot on the back of our seats. Very busy place, got the mixed grilled platter good for two people to share.
DELISHHHHH! Only complaint is that I felt like I was sitting on top of the tables next to mine and it was a struggle to for all our delicious spresds onto one table but otherwise it was phenomenal!
Staff was very accommodating and food was excellent. Will be going there again very soon.
When we observed that more than half the customers appeared to be Middle Eastern, we felt that we had come to the right place for a Lebanese dinner, and in fact we had. There is a large varied selection of mezes, all with bright and authentic flavors. We ordered the tableside Shawarma with lamb which was excellent. We were advised that it would require 25 minutes to an hour to arrive, so we had ordered a large number of mezes, and then it arrived way too soon after only 10-15 minutes. The service, despite criticisms in a number of reviews, was helpful, friendly and efficient, although definitely not effusive, actually a good thing. The wine list, that included a number of Lebanese wines, was distinctly overpriced. The seating is OK, but the decor is nondescript, and the noise level is too loud.
