Chef Eric Bost’s (République, Guy Savoy, Alain Ducasse) debut restaurant auburn juxtaposes the higher echelon of traditional fine dining with an emphasis on guest exploration and conviviality while paying homage to Los Angeles’ uninhibited culinary identity in a space designed with honest materials by local makers.

As far as a tasting menu goes, The food and plating were great. However I felt the service was not on par with other fine dining restaurants. Granted this is LA, but the problem was I felt it was as LA as any other restaurant. The service didn’t fully match up with the presentation.

Upon entering, we were not greeted and seated immediately despite our reservation. We were told to sit down and the host seemed confused and we were told to wait for the main hostess as he seemed unable to find our reservation.

The staff was very attentive. Atmosphere pleasant, seating not too tight. No I don’t like the Spartan here for a food experience decor. I like comfort, I could be home feel. Chairs too uncomfortable to kick back and relax. Shared the entire tasting menu with wife, and paired premium wines. Food make look attractive but so bland would not know what I’m eating. Chardonnay really wonderful, all 3oz. Food looked like it took a lot of creativity but flavor, portion size and cost not worth it. Wine pairing eh

It would be easy enough to use this space and talk of nothing but the food but to do so would mean overlooking what made Auburn not just a great meal, but an extraordinary experience—the service. There was no detail spared when it came to presentation, decor and genuine hospitality. The staff was more than accommodating—even generously making up for previous experience that was not in their control—and the food somehow tasted even better than it looked. And it looked amazing.

I fully expect Auburn to be celebrating their Michelin stars with the rest of us Angelenos in the very near future.

This was one of the most amazing dining experiences I've had in Los Angeles. It's elegant without being stuffy. The service was impeccable, the food came out looking like pieces of art and each bite was a delight. Looking forward to returning.

Great food, beautiful room, and the friendliest most gracious and accommodating service I have experienced in a long time. Absolutely top notch in every way. Will definitely come back (before it racks up too many Michelin stars for me to get a reservation. )

We were served by a waiter who was not that friendly to us and this affected our overall dinner experience. We did have a nice and helpful sommelier. Our opinion is that the waiters also be more knowledgeable on the menu, and that they speak clearly when explaining the dishes. They seemed to be in a rush to depart our table.

the space is absolutely beautiful and the dinner was delicious. They have 12 items on the menu and you can decide between 4, 6 and 9 courses and you choose what items you want to be apart of your menu. I've never been to a chefs tasting where you decide your courses, I quite enjoyed it. The strawberry cream dessert is not to be missed.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the food at Auburn. My wife and I both ordered a four course tasting menu and the "standard" (they also offer a "classic" pairing). The good: all of the courses were tasty and well seasoned; especially the cod. I ordered the 30 day dry aged beef ($15 extra) and didn't think it was worth the supplemental charge, but my wife really liked it. The duck was cherries was yummy, as well as the yogurt dessert. The sunchoke served with the cheese course didn't really work, but it's gooey, stinky cheese so we chowed. Also, the wine selection for the standard pairing was spot on. The bad: The decor is this strange combo of country farm and minimalist. neither of which was inviting or interesting. In fact, it's downright boring. Though the serving plates/bowls were unique, nothing else on the table or walls was eye catching. As for the sommelier, apparently he only comes to the table if you order a bottle or order the classic wine pairing, which makes the standard pairing second class. Not cool. The sommelier doesn't have to pour every wine, but a hello is expected with a tasting menu pairing (and they weren't that busy Saturday night, so he has no excuse). Beyond that, the wines are poured by different people and at different amounts (i.e. the server poured more than the assistant server). Pick one person and pour the same amount. Finally, we were seated next to a service station. It's difficult to have a conversation when there is always someone working right next to you (yes, I should have asked for another table). There are several tables next to service stations, which just is off putting for a $400 dinner. All in all, for this price point, I think there are better choices in LA.

This is the best restaurant we’ve been lately. Starting from the owner/chef Eric who is awesome, the metre who took our orders, Roderick, and our wonderful waiter, Kyle... we have no words to describe how amazing this place is. Very eclectic, modern and contemporary with delicious food, interesting options to chose from, excellent deserts, super well educated and professional employees, I give you guys 1000 stars! Thanks for making us feel special. Eric, good job!

Just a fantastically creative and delicious meal in a pristine modern setting. We sat outside in the warm evening and celebrated an engagement there. They brought us free, quality sparkling wine to drink when they heard the news. The wine pairing was very interesting and educational. Will definitely go back when I can!

Food was superb ; but the evening was marred by the extremely loud music, lack of sound absorbers and those elements meant everyone had to literally yell at each other to be heard. Most unpleasant - and it’s a trend in an effort to have a ‘lively’ vibe. Most unfortunately from my perspective . Why would I want to need to scream at my dining companions In order to have a conversation ?

Restaurant’s transformation to its elegant serene modern design is well lit, fresh and welcoming from floral to furniture.

Chef Eric Bost engages diners with his creative, artistic, amazing menu! Wondrous adventure!

Sommelier Rick Arline masterfully pairs wine with each course to enhance and add sparkle to choices.

Servers like Jason and Kendall, attentive, friendly and professional.

General Manager Christine Ho warm and gracious.

Auburn is truly what fine dining should be in LA!!!

The concept of mixing and matching prix fixe didn’t really work for our group. If we had spent an insane amount of money and gotten many more courses, maybe it would have, but we left feeling half satisfied and not able to get a true sense of the chef’s prowess.

Our first visit to Auburn came with high expectations based on fond memories of Hatfield's in that same location. I am very happy to report that they more than met our expectations, they exceeded them.

From the moment we entered we were treated with the type of excellent service that is both effortless in it's execution and almost impossible to find in L.A. The hostess, wait staff, sommelier, and table runners were all warm, friendly, and attentive. There are a few different dining areas, the space we were in was intimate without being stuffy, with very comfortable chairs, and a view of the open kitchen.

The menu is a "choose your own adventure" style tasting menu, with 4, 6 and 9 course options. We went with the middle option of 6-courses, both my wife and I chose five savory and one sweet from the nine savory and three sweet options on offer that evening. They offered supplements for dry aged steak, caviar, and shaved black truffles, but we didn't splurge on any of these added extravagances.

The provided two amuse bouche's that were both small bites bursting with flavor, along with a small quartered round loaf of bread and avocado butter, which was addictively delicious.

Highlights from the items we tried were the warm oysters with shitake mushrooms and bone marrow, eggplant with puffed wheatberries and roasted garlic, and roasted duck breast with grilled cherries.

They offer two tiers of wine pairings but we're never happy with those, so we ordered bottle of wine, and the sommelier was very helpful in suggesting three different options based on our expressed preferences, all of which cost under $100. The German Pinot Noir we wound up selecting was surprisingly tasty and went well with everything we ordered.

The plating and presentation of each dish was top notch. I felt that some of the dishes could have been a bit larger portion, but it is a tasting menu concept and we felt satisfied when we left. We will definitely be coming back again in a few months.

They have improved on the space inherited from Hatfields and made it open and comfortable. A lot of thought and planning involved in this rendition. The hostesses were warm and friendly. We waited at the bar where Timothy was knowledgeable and helpful-guiding us to a Malbec -from France!-delightful.
The food was creative and a delightful mixture of flavors. We had the six course menu- all creative dishes. A welcome addition to the ultra creative LA food scene with other stars like Vespertine, Dialogue, Somni and Urasawa.
