Avra Estiatorio on 48th
Excellent food you brag about to others after you have a meal here.
Favorite restaurant in NYC. The fish is the best in the city. Zucchini chips are amazing and I love the grilled octopus. The tuna was fresh and delicious. Desert was excellent.
The only problem was that the waiter charge me US$ 77,00 over the real price!!! Always check the bill!!!
Food and service were excellent. Noise levels a bit too high for conversation and/or to be a good lunch meeting spot.
Excellent food. Just perfect!
A little on the expensive side for a decor that is dated, but great experience.
A local New Yorker recommended and it was wonderful! I would definitely go again and again!! Pricey, but worth it. Great fish and lots of good choices in addition!
I've been going for years. The service was impeccable this time. Our servers were on the ball, replenishing, checking in often but not overbearing-- really top notch service. Live music in the background, their live and clean/fresh raw bar was pleasing to the eye. When I saw the crab peek and lift up it's head, I thought "it's alive, nice!" The only thing I would say is, the quality of the food this time was a bit lacking. I always get the open faced omelet, and this time it was just more like eggs, lol. I also got the side of bacon, and I just remember that being of better quality; they served these thin strips more akin to diner. All in all, my friend whom I brought for her birthday was impressed. Thank you Avra, but don't skip on the quality, you're one of my fave go-to places for brunch. Blessings!
Great food, great service. Bit pricey but great date night place. Felt like I was back in Greece
We loved our meal here! Everything was as expected. We will be back!
A wonderful afternoon meal.
One word: amazing!!! Unfortunately the app will make you write more in order to post the comment, but really there is nothing to add. Food, service, ambience, everything was outstanding!
Fresh fish, highly-reliable choice, with service always attentive without being cloying. Lunch special is the way to go.
Great grilled fish and first class service
The front of the house staff was rude and disrespectful. The young ladies were enjoying themselves and ignoring the guests. We came 45 minutes before the reservation and said they would seat us early and then ignored us completely until 15 minutes after our reservation and ended up seating us in the bar area. Ridiculous. The restaurant was basically half full when we got there and the app said there were reservations available before and after ours. I guess not for us!
Disappointing. I’ve been going for years but they’ve now gotten full of themselves and are hiring inexperienced rude inexperienced help, especially those front facing that should be the best, not the worst.
Consistently good - well prepared fresh seafood. It’s pricey but delicious. Usually very busy at lunch and dinner- make reservations, unless you come at off peak hours. Love the Avra chips - thinly sliced, fried zucchini and eggplant served with a side of tzatziki to dip into. Grilled octopus is dressed lightly with olive oil, Greek spices, etc for a light appetizer. Beefsteak tomatoes are always juicy flavorful and perfect in the salads. Fresh fish you pick out with the waiter is prepared perfectly cooked.
Love Avra... some of the best Fish in the City. Great atmosphere, incredible service. As must go to when in Manhattan.
It’s always a fun and busy place... we enjoyed it
Had to wait 30 minutes for confirmed table. Crowded beyond belief. Terribly noise. Difficult to converse.
We met our daughter who was in from London for a brief visit back home due to company training. My only issue was that the restaurant was so busy that Monday night that we had trouble hearing her over the noise level. So many people walked by our table that I didn’t get a chance to absorb the decor or view the complete layout of the restaurant. That said, our busy waiter was very attentive, polite and made some excellent points about our dinner choices. The food was delightful- our choices were the halibut and red snapper. The wine menu was lovely. For dessert 16 year old Lagavulin. We know Manhattan is expensive- we used to live there- but this was a special occasion for us, so we were ok with the expense.
Avra Estiatorio is always fabulous. Must try the Moschofilero wine, octopus and sea bass skewers. Enjoy!
All dinner came luke warm, not hot. All taste good, but it would have been an excellent dinner if warm.
Everything was great except the table was right by the door and each time the door was opened we froze...
Service and food were both excellent, as usual - didn’t disappoint
We've been several times. The food is always fresh and delicious. Our server was sincere and friendly supplying all the info we needed. He gave us honest feedback that contributed to us enjoying our meal.
Single person for dinner
Seated quickly but normally need a reservation
Grilled octopus salad - amazing!!
Very loud atmosphere
Arturo is the very best host in New York. Great house Pinot Grigio ‼️‼️‼️
Great evening with delicious food, atmosphere and attentive service.
We were there 2 nights in a row. First night we had a woman server who treated us like she was our Greek mother and we were dining in her home. Had halibut which was fabulous. Next night we had a male server who was polite. Everything seemed just slightly off including the halibut. Still love Avra and highly recommend.
Food as always is amazing. Host staff take themselves very seriously and are pretty rude
One of my NYC favourites, very consistent and everything just right! well done staff.
Outstanding food and service. Branzino special was perfect with a slightly crusted edge and very moist center. A special table request was honored and greatly appreciated. Excellent all around!!
When visiting New York always eat here! The food is So authentic Greek I used to spend my summers in Greece as a child and this is the real deal of the food the service the waiters and all the staff a great highly recommend if you want really good Greek food to come here
Wonderful experience. Great seafood menu. We had a great time
My absolute favorite restaurant in NYC!
Expensive, but every single dish was fantastic
Avra on 48th was recommended to us by a friend whose opinion we trust. She was right; the food was delicious, the restaurant was beautifully decorated and the experience was great.
Not the best experience I had here due to the food. Lamb chops were so fatty (the pieces they gave us). And the halibut was very dry. Shrimp was great though. Overall, not happy with the price I paid for not so good food.
We enjoyed a great meal at Avra Estiatorio. Maybe because I am not a New Yorker, but prices seemed particularly high to me. Spanikopita was the best I have ever had, anywhere.
Had a wonderful fresh fish that we shared another couple had pasta with lobster. The Greek salad was perfect to share. We had a great time. High noise level but fun.
My wife and I have dined here many times. But never again. We were sat 30 minutes after our reservation time. Once we ordered our drinks, our waiter didn’t come back to our table for 40 minutes, though he was tending to other tables around us.
The table the sat us at was surrounded by people at the bar and I couldn’t even get up to speak with the manager. So I called them from my table. I asked for someone to please come take our order. They thought it was a joke and hung up. I called back and finally someone took me seriously. But the manager didn’t seem to care.
So we finally left.
