The cosy restaurant is built around the traditions of the Ayllu community of the Inca Empire. The Ayllu was a group of families that lived together, worked the land together and shared their belongings and mealtimes, just like a large family. Much like the Incan civilisation, Ayllu is about the coming together of friends and families and taking time to share an experience of great food and innovative cocktails with loved ones.
Drawing on the inspiration of the Ayllu community, the menu consists of innovative small plates, designed for the whole table to share. Traditional Peruvian flavours are paired with Japanese influences, bringing fresh and zesty aromas to each dish.

Fantastic food selection, great service and a lovely setting for lunch on a summer's day - couldn't have asked for anything more!
Fantastic service and delicious food. The staff were very accommodating and attentive to our dietary requirements. Lovely sitting by the canal side whilst we ate, watching the world go by.
Lovely restaurant with a nice outside terrace! Great for Brunch!
Great service, nice DJ, good food, interesting basement decoration.
Absolutely delicious food, but the service was very slow. Asked several times for water which never arrived, took ages to order drinks and food, which then all arrived at the same time. It was very noisy, but there was a loud party of 12 on the table next to us, which may also have been why the service was so slow. Waiting staff seemed hassled and disinterested. Asked for bill, which then took another 15mins to arrive - only arrived when they spotted us getting our jackets and masks on!!
The food is outstanding. The outdoor seating was a bit cramped under the circumstances but not bad. My only gripes are the Pisco Sour cocktails were half froth and only had a mouthful of actual cocktail in them and therefore a bit of a ripoff. Despite service already being included in the bill, the waiter also asked for gratuity- NEVER seen that before. I also made a special request to help celebrate my friends birthday that was not acknowledged at all. Would still highly recommend- the food was exceptional.
Decor and overall appearance of the restaurant was very nice. Service was poor, took around 30 minutes to take orders. Ordered everything at once (drinks, starters, mains) but it took almost an hour from being seated to receive the starters (Bao Buns were really good) and then 2 hours from being seated to receive the mains (Ayllu chicken fried rice wasn’t worth the wait).
It was a pretty busy night, not sure if they were understaffed but the wait times put us off ordering desserts.
May return in the future to try other items of the menu and for dessert, maybe the service will be better.
We would like to a say special thank you to Marco for looking after us the whole evening. We would definitely come back soon.😃
Overpriced Food Extra Small Portions Careless Staff
A very expensive and disappointing experience to an otherwise nice area and location. The portions where too small by far, smaller than starters. Staff didn't care to provide any service and food was just ordinary nothing to get excited about. However for such an experience the price was extraordinarily high. If you want to destroy one of your evenings just book there. Disappointment guaranteed.
The food is outstanding!! The food quality and the presentation are 10/10! Cocktails are also amazing!
But we were let down by the service - slow and there was a lack of communication when our food was delayed and no one came to us to give us an update on the order. We had the feeling they are understaffed so I really hope it’s a temporary situation. We will definitely go back though!
We stayed 43 minutes waiting for a bottle of wine and 2 beers, not mentioning the time that we waited for someone to come to our table to ask what we wanted. Terrible service.
Lovely food, but restaurant area was so dark it was hard to read menu or see the food when it arrived. However, the food tasted wonderful!
Lovely food, attentive and helpful service, a fab afternoon.
Great food, the beef especially, best I have ever had! But was a bit too noisy, was on a first date and struggled to hear her sometimes, partly because the restaurant is in the basement so all the sound is bouncing around more. But would be great for a group of friends on a night out
My first visit to Ayllu was really disappointing, from waiting ages for somebody to acknowledge we had arrived and show us to our table to waiting ages for our order to be taken, to waiting ages for the food to arrive and so on it was disappointment after disappointment. The wine list is hopeless, poor quality wines at inflated prices. The cocktails are pretty but over diluted. When the food finally arrived some of it was over cooked (black) and we sent it back. The portions are not generous, we ordered 3 starters to share and 4 main courses also to share between 4 and had to order another main but still left hungry because by then nobody wanted to stay for desert. The management is disorganised and distracted. The waiting staff disinterested. The quality of the ingredients is good, but the kitchen doesn’t know how to use them with any degree of skill which is a pity. I would not recommend.
The food was good ( even tho a bit on the pricey side ) , but the service was very poor. One of the person on the table was vegan and the waitress was very standoffish when asked about the dishes. We were seating outside almost by ourselves (it was our choice to be outside and we understand the weather cannot be controlled) as it was rainy and she had attitude when we asked if we could move one of the chairs to the other side of the table ( where there were no customers anyway ) so that the food wouldn’t get drenched. It doesn’t cost anything to be a bit nice and accommodating. It was also very difficult to order drinks or food as every time we would call a waiter, he would say he had to call someone else. There were mistakes in what we ordered but thankfully the manager accepted to change the bill. We work in the area and go out for food quite frequently but won’t be coming back to this place.
We Had the peruvian menu it was pretty authentic recommended
We had an amazing experience! The food was off the charts and the servers were lovely. We brought our own cake as we had a birthday and they let us eat it. Can’t wait to go back and try some more of that fabulous menu. Cocktails were also on point! Thank you!
I would definitely recommend eating here the foods perfect the staff treat you well and it's really cheap
We did bottomless brunch on Sunday with the tasting menu. Each item was perfection, we thoroughly enjoyed each course! I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely dine there again.
Very messy service, uncomfortable sitting, no music/atmosphere, food was good but not good value for money due to all other factors. Dont recommend.
Food and drinks were excellent, unfortunately it seemed that they were understaffed.
Lack of vegan options, small portions and people who came after us were served before us
The food is good but not good enough to justify the bill.
The service is a bit slow / not attentive.
Cocktails are good - but again, slightly overpriced.
However, I like their outside space - it is shielded from the wind and has heaters; there’s many tables hence good availability.
It was slightly hard to find the place as it was named smiths bar and grill my ayllu. Food was good, I’d say 7.5/10, service was ok not the best 5/10
Asked the waiter 3 times for one thing, they are too busy. Nice for a drink and leave type of thing
Great restaurant with a really good food! I really liked and I will back again for sure.
Bit pricey. The terrace furniture could be classier for the prices we paid. Salmon rice was superb
Pretty disappointing all around. I should have clocked early on when we were being walked to our table that the dining room felt like a school classroom - the amount of hands waving around in the air trying to catch the attention of the understaffed waiters was quite the sight. Fair to say the service was terrible. Food itself was ‘meh’. It filled a hole and was average to eat, but after waiting for 40 minutes for the food, I would have really eaten anything. Fair to say I wouldn’t return here.
Although we have pre-booked and turned up on time we were given a table, in the far corner with no heating and where the waiting staff never seemed to visit. I had to regularly stand up and wave my arms around after waiting for up to 30 minutes for waiting staff to come by. We also asked a few times if we could move tables once we saw some with heaters become available and staff kept saying they would check and come back to us but then they never came back. The food was fine but the service was so dreadful I will not be back, we felt undervalued and not cared for.
It’s good food
Was good, service was quick, food decent, if it’s cold then definitely need to be under their heater
Very disappointing experience at Ayllu for my boyfriends birthday. The outside seating area was absolutely freezing and very clear that there are not enough heaters for the number of tables there are. Some of the heaters were also not working so a scramble for blankets. Service is very slow and poor. Everything we ordered went to other tables first before eventually coming to our table. It took absolutely ages for any drink orders to also reach our table, very clear that staff were overwhelmed. The food was ok, as a lover of Peruvian cuisine, I was very disappointed at the lack of flavour and also that our main was at best luke warm. The most disappointing thing was having called ahead in advance and let the restaurant know that we were celebrating and occasion, we were not able to order dessert. Our main was cleared and we were not offered the dessert menu or asked if there was anything else we wanted. We were made to feel rushed and what should’ve been a great night out felt like a true ordeal. I complained to one of the security guards and then a manager came over to apologise for things, he mentioned issues in the kitchen, which can happen but communicating with guests and letting people know would’ve gone a long way.
Overall, terrible experience and despite paying the full bill with service included (other guests received discounts) I certainly will not be back!
Amazing food, our waiter was super nice and friendly. I will come back and 100% sure recommend it to friends !
Had a very enjoyable evening out. The food tasted really great. The service was a bit hit and miss, likely due to how busy they were, at times very slow and forgetful on drinks, but food was prompt and spot on.
Understaffed and very dear for what it was.
Asked for soy sauce and water twice and didn't receive either :(
Cocktails were a tenner and you get a thimble full in the glass, so really not worth drinking here (even though it's sister restaurant is advertised as a bar and grill and they share facilities).
All-round a nice venue by the river, but unjustifiably expensive for what it was.
Great but we froze sitting outside. Surely it will be great once we can use restaurants properly. Surely returning
Food was delicious, but the waiter took forever to take our order.
The resteraunt was clearly over booked. Myself, and many other customers, waited ages to get in even though we had made a reservation. The service was also ridiculously slow! We waited 45 mintues before we were even offered drinks and that is only because we flagged down a waiter. The staff themselves were lovely but obviously short staffed and over worked.
The food was nice however again took ages to come and the side I was served was different to what was written on the menu without explanation. Avoid at all costs!
The dining area was shared by the Bar&Grill with tables mixed which created a more “pub” atmosphere which wasn’t desirable. Food was good and wine was reasonably priced
