2 nd visit and again fantastic food, service and value for money. A must place to go!!!
Had a lovely meal and the service was good and very friendly staff. It's Christmas so very busy and noisy but just added to the ambiance
Went for breakfast and the ingredients were locally sourced as excellent quality. Very tasty. The staff were very personable and friendly. The only slight bl negative was we had a little wait for our food.
Booked a table during our visit to the Christmas markets. Mentioned on booking that it was my daughters 18th Birthday, the server brought her a free glass of champagne over and we had a lovely table by the window.
I had the chicken and ham hough pie, it looked huge! But it was delicious, full of meat and not filled with gravy. My husband had the pork and daughter had fish n chips. All loved it! Would definitely return.
Fantastic food; couldn't have been better
arrived for 7.30 booking asked if table was ready and was told to wait at the bar, went back at 7.50 to ask what was happening, to be shown to our table. We booked the table for the festive menu, but upon arrival I was told I couldn’t have this as the meals are pre ordered. Should really state this on the menu. We decided to order of the menu and didn’t receive our starter until 8.30 then. Not at any point where we offered drinks in between these lengthy waits. It was then 9.30 but they time we received our mains, again without the offer of a drink. We kept having to ask someone to come over. One of the steaks where undercooked. The service was that poor that the manager decided we didn’t have to pay for a thing! Which I think was fair, however the service and wait on food and drinks really impacted on our night. The place seemed to be understaffed, and the staff lacked interest in there jobs. The had booked far to many tables for the table service to work.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and attentive staff, service was a bit slow but that wasn’t due to the staff just the lack of them! Would defiantly visit again. Would have liked to have known a bit more about the history of the place too, it’s a selling point but didnt appear to be referenced on the menu etc at all
Food was good. A lovely pub/restaurant. Very winter cosy and festive. Unfortunately service let the experience down however understand at this time of year they were extremely busy.
Everything was great including ambiance and service but my friend was served the PARMESAN GNOCCHI main. It was many very small round balls of gnocchi in breadcrumbs (from freezer?) on dry rocket with a few chunks of mozzarella which were not melted - no sauce or dressing ! Really terrible presentation and dry dry dry! I recommended Badger as I’ve been before! Disappointed!
We had a really nice Saturday evening. Burger, Fish and Chips tasted great. The staff were excellent - thank you
Such a great venue.
Keep doing what your doing!
We booked such an amazing lunch having the brunch n drinks deal!
Great service and lovely staff.
We went here for the Badger brunch. Overall it was very good value for money, good atmosphere for a catch up with friends. The food was fine, it was what you would expect for what we were paying, no complaints. The 4 drinks we got were lovely, however the service was very slow and it took us ages to order drinks each time.
The brunch was amazing. It was such great value for all the food and four cocktails. Would definitely recommend, and already have to a few friends. It’s just a shame that it’s not a permenant deal.
Table reservation advisable otherwise standing room only in a busy popular bar. Attentive waiter, fabulous cocktails.
Very loud lunchtime; seated in a small corner table next to a party of 12 plus having a rowdy Christmas party. Politely said we were leaving. Staff were polite but struggling with the busy service. Very Irritated to be reported to Opentable as “no show”.
Perhaps they were having a bad day but I am not sure I would rush back. Manager was unhelpful when we arrived with a baby however the rest of the staff were lovely and stepped in to help. Food was nice but had to wait over an hour for it to arrive. Overall we had a nice enough lunch despite a number of issues.
Duck salad dressing was just oil no raspberry flavour-awful! Once main plate cleared waited over 25 min to order coffees and were then being chase from t table despite not being advised they needed this back at a particular time either when booking or on arrival
Lovely place - was there for drinks and was very good. Back for dinner in a group of 7 - service friendly but food ridiculously slow and fairly average. 4 starters, 7 mains, 5 desserts. 2 bottles wine, one aperatif and two soft drinks. £280 - not worth anything like that unfortunately. Will stick to drinks only in future.
This was our first visit and my friends and I had a lovely time catching up and enjoying lovely tasting and lovely presented food in a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and a good night was had by all.
Busy so understandable slowness but as a solo diner I was forgotten multiple times. I would have ordered more drinks and dessert had I been waited on in a more timely manner. Restaurant vibe was good. Starter of scallops was tasty though the scallops were a bit over cooked. Main of Parmesan gnocchi was bland and the salad components were off to me.
Highly enjoyable meal and excellent service. Staff were kind and thoughtful
Very enjoyable, comfortable pub. Staff was wonderful. Great drinks, food was very good. Nice varied menu
Food was amazing, though it was busier than the other night, so service was slightly slower. Otherwise, it was incredible!
Fanatic food! Fantastic service! 10/10. Definitely would recommend!
Consistently good. A regularly-changing lunch menu offering reasonable prices in a nice atmosphere. Food and service always first class. A nice place to have lunch.
Second time we have been here. Breakfast was lovely and all food delicious. Coffee is the best! Such a shame about the poor service. We were shown to our table, no menus given and Sat for a good 10 mins before having to ask for a menu. Food took a while but don't mind that really. Such a simple thing to improve on and the place would be outstanding. Notice lots of reviews say the same .
Staff were lovely but Service, we weren’t asked if we wanted drinks when food order came and service was slow. Food was overpriced and burgers very dry. Really nice place but didn’t live up to expectations
Almost perfect - food and wine were excellent, staff were courteous. The only issue for me was the rap music which, although it wasn't too loud was still rap music...
Lovely food and great ambience.
Badger was its usual high standard.
Very good food and wine, excellent staff and reasonable value in a pleasant atmosphere.
I booked this restaurant for a special day out with my Mum in Edinburgh. Online this restaurant sounded fab, with a lovely menu. We arrived and were shown to our table, which was squished between two other tables of two. We decided to move to another table as there were a number of others available.
There was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant, so it was difficult to get his attention. Although he did a very good job. We ordered the fish sharing platter, which sounded delicious. Unfortunately when it came, the calamari and tempura has merged into one, we found ourselves pulling bits of fish off large chunks of slightly raw batter, unsure what we were going to get. The fish Pate was good but the bread it was served with was so salty that it almost destroyed the taste of the pate. We didn't touch the smoked salmon as the outside of it was slightly translucent. The haddock croquettes were ok, although slightly chewy.
We ordered two puddings; the chocolate plate, which was good and the Hazelnut Torte, which wasn't really a torte. It was a quenelle of chocolate mousse, which had no trace of hazelnut in it and two slices of poppy seed (polenta?) cake with a praline brittle on the top. My mother asked if she had received the wrong dessert, the waiter kindly went and asked the kitchen and came back assuring us that it was. She would not have ordered the 'hazelnut torte' if she had know it would be a poppy seed cake and chocolate mousse - in our mind, that is not a torte.
All in all, the menu had such promise, however the food did not match up to expectations. It's almost like the kitchen made the menu too complex and fussy? It is clear that the restaurant has a lovely bar but the food did it a disservice. We wanted to love this place, such a shame.
Really great atmosphere & good choice of food although the cheese board was very disappointing and very pricey for what we got. While the staff were very friendly & we were provided with menus & drinks immediately It was very busy & we had to go and find a waiter later on when we wanted more drinks. However other than that the food was lovely & we would certainly recommend.
We booked lunch for 13:30 and when we arrived the restaurant was veey busy. We were told there was a brunch offer and lots of people were booked for that. I feel the restaurant wasnt adequately staffed to meeting this demand. We founds the service to be quite slow. We ordered the seafood platter to share as a starter. When it arrived some of the tempura was cold (prawns and squid) and we didn't receive the mayonnaise dip, we had to ask for the dip and waited a further 5 mins. The main meals were Cullen Skink pie and Steak and Onion pie. Both were nice and no complaints. We ordered sides of roast carrots and creamy mash. The carrots looked suspiciously like parsnips and the mash was not at all creamy. The mash was bland, unseasoned and quite dry so we ended up leaving most of it.
The cocktails were lovely and I would certainly recommend them.
The decor and ambience were nice too. All in all it was a good effort but i wouldn't rush back or recommend to others.
The setting is nice, the staff were great, just the food was a little disappointing. However, saying this there is a good selection on the menu. I would still recommend the restaurant to friends. We dined for a very early lunch so there may have been a bit more of an atmosphere had we been there a little later in the day
Very disappointing after good experience visiting 12 months ago. Although the restaurant was empty we were seated next to a group who had obviously been drinking for most of the day, were very loud and using objectionable language, Given that I had booked the restaurant months ago for my wife’s birthday and I was not prepared for it to be spoiled by inconsiderate diners. As a result we left after the main course. Pity really as the food was very good, albeit that we were unable to have bread and olives from the menu along with our aperitif. Apparently it could only be ordered to come out along with a starter. We will be back in Edinburgh next year but unfortunately the Badger will not be on our list.
Really good food. Server was friendly and very good at her job, but she was responsible for the whole room and couldn’t possibly keep up. It really slowed things down and we were there for much longer than expected.
A gorgeous place to eat which is reasonably priced! Lovely staff and food is amazing!
As a wind in the willows fan this place was a must see.
The food was amazing the atmosphere was lovely and the service was fab
Very nice ambiance and great location. Good menu with lots of options. Lovely decor and stylish interior. However temperature far too cold to be sitting about and beautiful radiators clearly just there for show. Turn the heat up please!
Food was really fresh and tasty. The mimosas were well made too. Overall really good value and nice. Service was a bit slow but we were in no rush so it wasn't an issue.
