Bao Fa Garden (FKA Zen China) Ratings and Reviews
This was my first visit to this restaurant & I was very happy with the delicious meal served by very attentive staff and the manager who was at hand to see that all was well. My son & a guest from overseas enjoyed the lovely array of dishes including starters , scallop dumplings and vegetable spring rolls and our mains roast whole duck , chicken , aubergine & Tofu served with rice. which we shared were absolutely delicious with very large portions :) ( we only realised it when the food arrived ).The Merlot shared by my guests was great too.
I would defenitely recvomend this restaurant to those who enjoy quality Chinese cuisine and excllent ambience & great view of the Thames. It must be said , the price was very reasonable too!!👍
An amazing Chinese restaurant which serves perfect food. I would recommend soy millk icecream and roasted Beijing Duck. It is the only Chinese restaurant that also use the duck bones to cook a soup with tofu and vegetables for you apart from the duck meat already served.
We had an evening meal at the Zen China Restaurant after going on the London Eye at around 9pm.
Firstly the location is great if you have been the London Eye as it is about 2 minutes away. The only downside is it that it is not clear where the restaurant is as there is no sign leading up the stairs to the courtyard but it is clear when you go up, we had to use Google Maps to find it.
Secondly in relation to the location the view from the restaurant is incredible, we had a view of Big Ben which was really nice.
The food is very reasonably priced for London and in a prime location and the portions are very large, so much so that neither of us were able to finish them.
Unlikely most Chinese restaurants they also had a good cocktail menu which was nice for us as we prefer a cocktail over wine or beer.
Overall the location was perfect, the food was lovely and the price was great. We would definitely come again when we return to London.
We booked Zen for a romantic wedding aniversary celebration . We had a great table for 2 with a direct view of Big Ben from the window which was a bonus. Zen is great after an evening ride on the London Eye as it is only a 5 min stroll down past the London Dungeon and upstairs next to Sea Life. It's a bit hard to see as you have to go up the stairs and it is inside the County Hall building so look out for the sign board on the left as you walk past Sea Life and go up the stairs. We had crispy duck pancakes which was nice and crispy and soft in the middle. And the authentic Chinese seafood chillie pot was great and they also do great dumplings. Next time we will pre order their special Zen roast duck to try . Our waitress was very helpful and explained the special dishes to us even though she was run off her feet for a busy Saturday night. We will defiantly eat there again next time we are in London.
Excellent views of the Thames/Big Ben. Very close to London Eye. Good food. The only negative thing is that it is so hard to find it. We walked around the City Hall nearly twice trying to find it. Many restaurants there are called "Zen" something, so everyone guides you to a different place. To get to the restaurant you have to get up to the outside 2nd level on the Thames side and to the entrance to the big hotel there. To get to the outside 2nd level you have to go through archways that claim they are entrances to other restaurants! With full awnings of the other restaurant. Confusing! They really need a sign out there.
We booked a table, and due to a change of plans turned up just 1 hour early and asked if we could be accomodated. This was done with no fuss and we were made to feel welcome.
The waiting staff were very friendly and approachable, restaurant was immaculate and well laid out and we got a table with a view over the Thames at night.
The food we ordered was fantastic and immaculately presented, the value was excellent too.
Next time I am in London I will be visiting again.
Thank you Zen China
Some less-than-100% reviews had caused some misgivings or reduced expectations, but we were wrong. We were a group of 5 who had booked through our Chinese host.
The welcome and all the service was instant, warm, friendly and immaculate. Our host (a very able Chinese cook) chose for us. These good choices were promptly served. We all praised the food and enjoyed the atmosphere looking across to the Houses of Parliament. We chose to split the bill and found it was not as high as might be expected.
Great service, start to finish, no hurrying with our selection or feeling of trying to get us to leave, and we was the last table to leave. Excellent selection of food and wine, and the view is amazing, try and get a window table. Would not hesitate to book again.
I celebrated my 26th birthday with my husband and friends, the waiters were outstanding very patient considering we were a group of 10 the food was delicious and the view of river Thames with all the lighting just lovely. Bottom line I would definatly recommend this restaurant.
The chef really knows how to cook duck! I had shredded duck wrapped in lettuce and my friend had stir-fried duck with beansprouts. The location is stunning, overlooking Big Ben. While the crowds filled the pavements outside, it was quiet and relaxed in the restaurant. Excellent food and location, I would never have found this restaurant without toptable
Went there for my dinner date the service was fast the food was the best loved its the price was also affordable , if u looking for a nice quiet place to eat and enjoy your meal while watching the Thames and enjoying the good view of big ben this is the place
My husband, brother and I had dinner at zen china a few nights ago. The view was amazing so I didn't mind too much about the quality of the food but I was really amazed by how good the food was. Portion size was huge and all our staters and main meals were superb. Service was great. I will be back again very soon!!!
I booked the table for 5 for last week's Chinese New Year occasion. The view we were facing was the gorgeous big ben at night and we really enjoyed the warm service and nice food! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Chinese food but also looking for some good views!
We had a lovely meal at Zen China, before heading to the IMAX for a 9pm show. We booked if for the convenient location and expected it to be quite touristy - but it was lovely!
It was 35% of food except siganture dishes - there were quite a lot of dishes we wanted on the the siganture list, but the bill still ended up being substantially discounted overall. The food was delicious. Some of the best chinese food I've tasted. The service was attentive but not annoying. Our table had a view of Big Ben.
Only down side was that an order of 'coke' came in quite a small glass and was a little flat. The wine was fine.
Zen China is tucked away in County Hall, so despite the great location overlooking the River Thames/Houses of Parliament it is pleasantly quiet inside. The food was delicious, the service was great and they even brought out a special surprise desert with a candle for my husband's birthday! Would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be returning in the future!
