Great Portuguese food and great choice of wine! The only downside was that service was a little slow at the end of our meal, but they were closing so it could have been that.
I would definitely go back and would commend anyone to go!
Great food, very kind and pleasant chef, nice place. Really worth to come back
Lovely place, amazing Portuguese food. Just one thing to point, the service was a bit slow due to the servers being running from one side to the other, but once they were there they were very nice and always anticipating any issues that we might have. Polish lady, can't remember her name sorry, as amazing hospitality skills, it's this kind of people that makes us return to a place and enjoy no matter what. Great project
Spent our first anniversary here after getting married in Portugal, brought back all the memories we had from the year before! The chefs created great food and had lots of great things to say while we dined at the counter! Front of house couldn’t do anymore so generous in knowledge, passion and making our night special!
Thank you and we will be back
Very good service and food, only thing Portuguese food is known for its simplicity and the food here was a little over complicated and surprisingly no sardines or braised pork with clams... it was a tad pricy but would go again
Outstanding. Very welcoming team. Fantastic food and one of the best bottles of wine we have drunk in a restaurant for years.
The food was absolutely amazing and we all hoped we could come again. Probably better suited to groups of two or three - as a five the curved bar set up wasn't very sociable as you could only really talk to whoever was directly next to you, and sharing the food was a bit awkward
What a gem! Absolutely loved the place. Small menu but at all of the highest quallity, service was great and the atmosphere just as good.
As a Portuguese person living in London, going to a traditional Portuguese restaurant is always exciting but that didn't happen when I went to Bar Douro for the 1st time. The restaurant is cute but the food wasn't that special. The cheese board was below average, the rest of the plates very well decorated but very oily, we couldn't even taste the real flavour. The smash potatoes were just boiled potatoes with sea salt. But the worst was the wait staff, no Portuguese soul, didn't explain any of the menu properly and just wanted to do the bare minimum. We Portuguese are known for our hospitality and I definitely didn't fell it right here. I really wanted to love bar douro but it seems we will continue to visit our favorite Portuguese restaurant in Covent garden.
If you love Portugal you will love bar Douro.
I thought I was back in Porto!
Service was excellent.
A really great place- such a lovely, relaxed place with charming service, delicious food and good wine. We’ll be back!
The food was out of this world, as was the wine. We had to order all 3 desserts to share and you’d be mad not to do the same. Loved sitting at the bar and being able to speak to the chefs and ask them questions as they prepared our food. Will definitely be returning soon
Tasty tapas with family on Saturday eve and although busy they found us an outdoor table and service was good.
A gem, a great little restaurant just off the beaten track.
We ate early Saturday evening after a Theatre matinee show. Whilst not full the restaurant was busy, we were quickly shown to our seating at the bar, the concept and menu explained. This was quickly followed up by water and taking our drinks order. Good aperitifs: white port and tonic, with a G&T for myself. The Gin was Cobalto-17, recommended and very much to my taste.
We ordered 5 plates from the menu and bread along with a Douro White Wine. All the plates came when they were ready, but thankfully spread over 20 minutes or so. Not a bad dish among them, the grilled squid and gambas dishes being the favourites. The Wine was dry with enough flavour to balance the seafood and pork.
We then had Pastel de Nata a favourite of ours and the Almond cake. The custard tart came with cinnamon ice cream, however the Almond Cake won hands down.
All finished off with coffee. We didn't hurry and were not rushed by the restaurant and had finished in an hour and a quarter.
Have already recommended the restaurant to friends and will be going again.
Never fails to disappoint!
Consistently great cooking and quality ingredients
A very nice, relaxing place to eat. Very efficient and friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere.
Food very good and the small plates were not too small. I especially liked the Iberico Presa and the bacalau a bras, although we overordered on that, so only get the larger portion if you're really hungry! We liked sitting at the bar so that we could watch the chef cook and have a quick chat with him too as it was not too busy. Dishes looked pretty as well, and the azulejos decor is really beautiful too. Reasonable prices for London overall, even though Borough Market has less expensive dishes perhaps. But then again Bar Douro is MUCH quieter and doesn't suffer from the massive queues in the market...
Great ambience and food, perfect for a relaxed date or meeting up with foodie friends.
A little gem of a tapas bar with great food and atmosphere. Small menu but each dish quite delicious and the vinho verde dangerously addictive.
Great food and location.
We sat outside, lovely food, friendly staff, convivial space. Recommend the Bacalau.
I’d been to Bar Douro right around when it opened and was eager to go back but my latest visit was disappointing.
The staff weren’t very helpful when it came to finding us a place to sit (despite having booked in advance). Some of the empty tabletops were messy with old plates or not set. The bathroom had lose fittings on the toilet and the tap.
The food on the other hand is great but the service and building upkeep is really letting the place down
I loved the food and the wine. But the portions and serving sizes are just too small for the price charged.
Food and wine selection was very good. Staff were helpful and very attentive
The bar itself and the food is outstanding. The booking system is irritating and totally inflexible if you are more than two people. We didn't like the way they called us one hour before to ask if we were still coming. It is really annoying - I had already confirmed by phone the day before and changed the number in my party so they didn't need to call again. They were totally inflexible about trying to accommodate a table of 3 and a table of 4 so we could be near our friends and when we asked to move nearer when some seats were available they told us no 3 times. I love this food and atmosphere but the booking system really did seem a bit rude and inflexible.
I think i left my jacket with you?
Can you check and let me know?
I want an excuse to come back and drink white port and try all the other dishes we didn’t eat on Tuesday!
Beautiful Portuguese tapas. The menu choice is quite small but that means that the options available will all be of the highest quality, prepared well and cooked to perfection. The slightly charred chorizo was superb and the steak onglet with confit egg was stunning. Even the bread and olive oil was some of the best I've had. The pastel de nata with cinnamon ice cream was out of this world. I'd probably say that the pastel de nata was on par with Pastéis De Belém, where they originated in Portugal. I didn't try the wine but the tasting flight of 3 Portuguese wines looked great.
Highly recommended and I would definitely return.
The food is delicious but extremely over priced for the quantities. Wine list is ridiculously over price as well. The experience felt rushed despite having booked a table.
Always a pleasure - Amazing food and very friendly staff
Amazing good and great vibe but the service was a little slow. That said I would definitely go back.
Top food and location. Lovely small restaurant that serves authentic Portuguese cuisine. Will go again!
This place is my go to place when I'm feeling homesick and missing my roots. From the entries to the wine (even the bottled water!) everything has that "home" taste, specially the Bacalhau à Brás, which is one of those dishes everyone from Portugal know quit well. And at Bar Douro they just nail it. Every bit of food they put in front of me was just delicious. Bacalhau à Brás is the staple of the house and they make it exactly like my grandma and mom. With love! Wine is delicious, deserts are so typical (still thinking about that Baba de Camelo..) and the olives and olive oil are just the ultimate cosiness. The space is extremely well done, the decor is perfect and the ambient is extremely relaxed and you can just have a nice conversation without having to raise your voice. I might be a bit biased rating Bar Douro, but they deserve it.
My third time at Bar Douro and it's always great. Fun atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious food. Try and get a table at the bar so you can watch the chefs work!
Lovely atmosphere, and even though we sat indoors, it felt light and airy inside. We were sat at the bar, so it was nice to watch the chefs cook the meals. There aren't loads of tables/seating, however it was a nice change from the usual restaurant atmosphere and felt very relaxed.
The food was delicious - I had the crispy polenta and garlic punched potatoes and my partner had the onglet steak with egg. He also enjoyed the red wine (Meio Queijo, Douro). They were also good with checking for allergies, not too much fuss.
Service was great. My partner and I really enjoyed our lunch there and we would like to come again.
I already went to Bar Douro more than once and every time the food and service is amazing.
Great portuguese food, with a great choice in fish and meat. I loved the iberico and the Smoked mackerel escabeche. And of course the pastel de nato. Great ambiance and friendly personnel
Quick Sunday afternoon meal before the train back to school for my daughter. Very tasty, friendly service and the salt cod was particularly good. We'll come again...
The food was very nice at the restaurant! Only thing I was surprised about was the staff there were a bit pushy. They kept coming up to us every 2 minutes and asking us to order and then telling us they needed the table for someone else at 8. 1.5 hour is a quick turn around for dinner.
We ordered the good-value set lunch, but unfortunately the standard of the food was below expected. The cod hash was bland and looked like it had been thrown together with leftover overcooked (crispy?) chips. The pastel de nata had a lumpy custard and the crust on mine was rock solid.
