Really good food, pricing normal for London. Service could be better.
We came for my birthday and it was perfect, will definitely be back!
Need more tables outside. Food and service was great
Very good value set lunch but food bland. Croquetes de Alheira (Smoked Portuguese sausage) was indeed smokey but not meaty enough and lacked something to give it a bit of a lift, it sat on a dollop of acidic sauce/mayo. Bacalhau à Brás (salt cod hash) was all hash and no cod. Unattractive presentation, lots of little potato sticks bound into an oval shaped mound, a few half olives here and there and an almost invisible amount of cod. This was particularly bland.
Delightful interior, excellent Churchill white port and tonic. Waitress didn't smile once.
The staff was polite, professional and the food divine
Great! Really really great.
It's a small place so booking in advance is recommended. We tried several dishes of their menu and everything was nicely cooked and presented. The wine selection is also very good. I highly recommend it.
This was our fourth time here. The food was, as ever, excellent. As was the service and the wine. We could see the food cooked in front of us which was great!
This was my second visit to Bar Douro and it won’t be my last. The food was outstanding from the bread to all the fish dishes and the chorizo. The service was friendly and warm and genuine recommendations and swaps were suggested. The house wine was great too. All round great value.
Five star service. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and the atmosphere very welcoming. No doubt we found a bit of Portugal in the middle of London.
Great food and service. Having booked for four people, five of us turned up and they were very accommodating. The food is great and authentic, the wine list very well selected and the service incredible food and cheerful! Thank you very much for a great evening
I would eat here every day if I could think up the occasion.
Just great. Food was amazing. Great people working here. We loved this place & will be back soon.
A very pleasant surprise. A beautiful space located under a railway arch but with a sunny area out front & a stylish counter style wine bar inside. Food was excellent, beautifully presented & every dish was delicious. Shrimps, octopus, croquetes, cod fritters, grilled chicory plus desserts! Good value, very good house wines available in half litre carafes plus delicious Portugese gin cocktails. Food was fabulous & the staff were so charming & helpful explaining dishes. I recommended Bar Douro to 2 groups of friends whilst eating here. Will return for sure.
Really excellent food, particularly for the price. We've eaten at a lot of similar places in the area and further up closer to borough, but this really stands out.
Very impressive and great to watch and talk to the Chefs.
Had a fab birthday lunch at Bar Douro. The service was excellent and the £35 a head menu was delicious.
Great Portuguese food and great choice of wine! The only downside was that service was a little slow at the end of our meal, but they were closing so it could have been that.
I would definitely go back and would commend anyone to go!
Great food, very kind and pleasant chef, nice place. Really worth to come back
Lovely place, amazing Portuguese food. Just one thing to point, the service was a bit slow due to the servers being running from one side to the other, but once they were there they were very nice and always anticipating any issues that we might have. Polish lady, can't remember her name sorry, as amazing hospitality skills, it's this kind of people that makes us return to a place and enjoy no matter what. Great project
Spent our first anniversary here after getting married in Portugal, brought back all the memories we had from the year before! The chefs created great food and had lots of great things to say while we dined at the counter! Front of house couldn’t do anymore so generous in knowledge, passion and making our night special!
Thank you and we will be back
Very good service and food, only thing Portuguese food is known for its simplicity and the food here was a little over complicated and surprisingly no sardines or braised pork with clams... it was a tad pricy but would go again
Outstanding. Very welcoming team. Fantastic food and one of the best bottles of wine we have drunk in a restaurant for years.
The food was absolutely amazing and we all hoped we could come again. Probably better suited to groups of two or three - as a five the curved bar set up wasn't very sociable as you could only really talk to whoever was directly next to you, and sharing the food was a bit awkward
What a gem! Absolutely loved the place. Small menu but at all of the highest quallity, service was great and the atmosphere just as good.
As a Portuguese person living in London, going to a traditional Portuguese restaurant is always exciting but that didn't happen when I went to Bar Douro for the 1st time. The restaurant is cute but the food wasn't that special. The cheese board was below average, the rest of the plates very well decorated but very oily, we couldn't even taste the real flavour. The smash potatoes were just boiled potatoes with sea salt. But the worst was the wait staff, no Portuguese soul, didn't explain any of the menu properly and just wanted to do the bare minimum. We Portuguese are known for our hospitality and I definitely didn't fell it right here. I really wanted to love bar douro but it seems we will continue to visit our favorite Portuguese restaurant in Covent garden.
If you love Portugal you will love bar Douro.
I thought I was back in Porto!
Service was excellent.
A really great place- such a lovely, relaxed place with charming service, delicious food and good wine. We’ll be back!
The food was out of this world, as was the wine. We had to order all 3 desserts to share and you’d be mad not to do the same. Loved sitting at the bar and being able to speak to the chefs and ask them questions as they prepared our food. Will definitely be returning soon
Tasty tapas with family on Saturday eve and although busy they found us an outdoor table and service was good.
A gem, a great little restaurant just off the beaten track.
We ate early Saturday evening after a Theatre matinee show. Whilst not full the restaurant was busy, we were quickly shown to our seating at the bar, the concept and menu explained. This was quickly followed up by water and taking our drinks order. Good aperitifs: white port and tonic, with a G&T for myself. The Gin was Cobalto-17, recommended and very much to my taste.
We ordered 5 plates from the menu and bread along with a Douro White Wine. All the plates came when they were ready, but thankfully spread over 20 minutes or so. Not a bad dish among them, the grilled squid and gambas dishes being the favourites. The Wine was dry with enough flavour to balance the seafood and pork.
We then had Pastel de Nata a favourite of ours and the Almond cake. The custard tart came with cinnamon ice cream, however the Almond Cake won hands down.
All finished off with coffee. We didn't hurry and were not rushed by the restaurant and had finished in an hour and a quarter.
Have already recommended the restaurant to friends and will be going again.
Never fails to disappoint!
Consistently great cooking and quality ingredients
A very nice, relaxing place to eat. Very efficient and friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere.
Food very good and the small plates were not too small. I especially liked the Iberico Presa and the bacalau a bras, although we overordered on that, so only get the larger portion if you're really hungry! We liked sitting at the bar so that we could watch the chef cook and have a quick chat with him too as it was not too busy. Dishes looked pretty as well, and the azulejos decor is really beautiful too. Reasonable prices for London overall, even though Borough Market has less expensive dishes perhaps. But then again Bar Douro is MUCH quieter and doesn't suffer from the massive queues in the market...
Great ambience and food, perfect for a relaxed date or meeting up with foodie friends.
A little gem of a tapas bar with great food and atmosphere. Small menu but each dish quite delicious and the vinho verde dangerously addictive.
Great food and location.
We sat outside, lovely food, friendly staff, convivial space. Recommend the Bacalau.
