Great ambience, bar/casual style, friendly and professional staff and very tasty food made with care. Cod hash had great flavours, pork cheeks melted in the mouth, and all the 'petiscos' (smaller dishes to snack in such as spinach pastries and croquettes) very moorish. Good wine list and draft Portuguese beer. Didn’t manage dessert but custard tarts looked great and authentic. What a great spot to while away an afternoon.
We’d missed our booking because of public transport, but the hosts kindly found us a space at the bar, which was best to watch the kitchen. Staff spoke both Portuguese and English, and recommended authentic dishes. Some of the sharing plates were generous eg the bacalhao (dried cod), others awkwardly small eg the octopus. But all tasty. Wine was pleasant, though the regular menu lacks a vinho verde (green wine). Don’t miss the excellent cheeseboard.
Good value lunch specials with some excellent and reasonably priced Portuguese wine. The octopus dish is wonderful, though not on the lunch menu. The chicken wings were very, very ordinary, however. Still, it's a good place to sit, a nice ambience and not ridiculously overpriced (for London!)
A great spot to meet friends, and the food is spectacular. Even better if you get a seat the bar - you can watch the chefs working!
Very good food and better staff, feels like being in Portugal!
As usual, an amazing experience! Excellent food - specially the bacalhau à brás - and good value for money. Finally a decent Portuguese restaurant in London, bringing one of the best cuisines of the world to Londoners in the best way!
Love this place! As a lover of portuguese food and culture it is the perfect spot to kick back with some stonking portuguese wines and amazing comfort food classics as well as some imaginative new dishes which show off the skills of the chefs. The staff are all super friendly - one of the chefs even gave me some great recommendations for my upcoming trip to Porto! I will be a regular here!!
Sublime food served direct from open kitchen which doubles as entertainment watching chef cook his tasty creations! Cosy restaurant - at bar service with great vibe & atmosphere and extensive authentic wine list. One to revisit.
A completely delightful experience - charming and attentive service and great authentic Portuguese dishes. I'm looking forward to my next visit to sample more of the menu.
Had the most fabulous time at Bar Duroro. Lovely staff, amazing wine list and even better food at a reasonable price. Perfect place!
Attractive Portuguese restaurant with good food and fantastic service situated in an interesting square near London bridge
As it was very cold day and we got a table next to the door, my friends felt a bit cold sitting near there. It would be great if we could get extra blanket or heater.
Atmosphere is very good.
Great food, friendly and helpful service, nice atmosphere. A little taste of Portugal in SE1.
The food and service were really good I will defenitly go back
Bar Douro has become a favourite. The bar seating means that it is best for small groups of diners (2 or 3), though there is a private dining room apparently, for groups of 5 upwards (no experience of it). Food is the Portuguese version of better known Spanish tapas. We ate bacalhau mash, salt cod fritters, hake feijoada, and turnip tops and drank a crisp Alvarinho. All delicious and reasonably priced at £70 for two.
In a week in which I also ate at some much fancier restaurants this was really the highlight. Great atmosphere and efficient service. An interesting and flexible wine list. Truly outstanding food from the beautifully presented Croquetes de Alheira to the Bacalhau à Brás. Amongst the white wines the Herdade do Esporão Reserva was particularly good. The bar stools mean this wouldn't really work for a large group, but well worth trying if there's just the two of you.
friendly staff with great service with lovely food we had a brilliant evening
Lovely food and service but space was cold ! Probably fantastic in the summer.
Wonderful food, wonderful staff Just a great great place to enjoy Portuguese style tapas
We ate here last week and were really blown away by the quality of the cooking here. I thought the salt cod hash was exceptional and I can't wait to return to try everything else on the menu. I really enjoyed the desserts and it's easily the best cheeseboard in town. The wines are phenomenal.
Another excellent meal with fantastic service. The food is always top notch and while slightly more expensive than some of the other options in the market it is nevertheless excellent value for the area. The wine list is extenisve with a great choice of Portugese and Spanish wines across all price brackets. The menu has great seafood and meat options and the portion sizes are generous for London tapas style. All in all a great place for lumch and dinner with friends or family.
Had a holiday in Portugal a couple of years ago and loved the food. This place was recommended to us as somewhere to taste authentic Portuguese cuisine. We weren't disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient - even though we arrived late for our booking! Would definitely recommend and we will return.
As a Portuguese individual I found the plates dishes to be more ala carte than traditional which was a shame. Bar Doura is good take on Barrafina but I feel has still some way to go.
Great restaurant! Excellent food, friendly service, good wine list.
This was a great find. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We sat at the bar and ate the seats are well spaced so you don’t feel like you’re on top of each other.
The restaurant has a lovely feel/ambience and the food was reasonably priced I will definitely be going back.
A very nice place for a Portuguese food experience. The wine selection is very good.
The food was amazing! The service was fantastic! I was expecting more portuguese working at the restaurant... but it was amazing nevertheless.
Lovely food and wine with a great atmosphere. Food was delicious and service was great too. I will return!
Nothing Portuguese about the food I normally go to Stockwell for my Portuguese food fix. And those are such simple places, great food, wine and atmosphere, this was not a patch! I mean they couldn't get the cod fritters right! Tasted more like onion bhaji, yuck.
Loved it. Working at the bar, watching your food being prepared is a treat and the food is delicious. Great atmosphere as well. Wine is madly expensive and doesn't match the quality of the food. Will be going back
We went to bar Douro to celebrate the 17th anniversary of our first date. The food was amazing. Great flavours, well executed and just different enough to make it a regular go to for what has become something of a monotonous tapas/ chichetti scene in London. The staff were great fun and it was it was fun to sit at the bar which directly overlooks the cooking area. The place has a great buzz. For an anniversary (in my mind for any occasion) the bar seating is too cramped (compare with cafe murano in st James which gives people an additional 50% space at the bar which makes for a more comfortable (and civilised) experience. The wine was ok, and not particularly good value, which is a bit of a shame as there are some spectacular (and spectacularly good value) Portuguese wines out there right now, especially when it comes to Reds. Odd that a place built around the Churchill portfolio only has a 10 year tawny as its oldest port on offer. It was fine but not anything I couldn’t have just picked up at Waitrose for a tenth of the price. Having said that, pairing their LBV port with the Carmel flan was amazing. Very good place, happily recommended but with a bit more aspiration and confidence around their wines could be a spectacular jewel worth travelling to...
I visited with my partner for dinner in the midst of bleak January. The staff were very friendly and the cosy surroundings made for a lovely evening. The food was good quality and the wine pairings were thoughtful. Despite Portuguese wine being less well known (except Port) it was great to try so many wonderful flavours. Definitely great for date nights!
Tasty food and good wine list. A great place to catch up with friends
Such a great place. Pretend you are in Lisbon or Porto as you tuck into superb Portuguese food.
Had an absolutely lovely dinner here last week, would definitely go again.
Amazing flavours. We love Bar Douro! I'm coming back for the orange and olive oil cake.
Nice place, casual vibe and simple, tasty food. If I'm being honest probably overpriced for casual dining but the food was authentic Portuguese executed well in an open kitchen. Staff were friendly and helpful too. 4/5 stars
Food and wine were Bom, especially the Octopus.
The service was friendly, but perhaps a little too attentive for the relaxed ambience from this Casa.
Gorgeous little place & so authentic (beautiful blue mosaics even in the very vast loo!), I walked in & felt as at home as if I was in grandma’s house! Perfect for sitting, chatting & gently making your way through the very tasty menu, enough choice even for the gluten & lactose intolerant! Very friendly, knowledgable & efficient staff. Loved it and my dinner date was super impressed!
Great authentic Portuguese food with a great selection of wines also. Great service, I will return!
