Lovely Tapas style food selection and Portuguese wine
Delish! Would go back!
I recommend the Garlic prawns and the nata for dessert!
One of the best Portuguese restaurants in London! I felt like I was in Portugal all over again!
superb, casual service but fits atmosphere, highly recommend
Fantastic restaurant! Very good food, nice environment and good value for money
Delicious food in a lovely room but sometimes unwelcoming and overall inattentive service loses points and for that reason, I'm not in a hurry to go back.
All round loveliness, would recommend sitting t the bar too.
Love this place! Fab food, perfect service and had a table outside in the sunshine as requested (also given the option to move to a better table when it became available a few mins later).
Had a great time good atmosphere, shame about the fryer and the dishes could be a bit more generous a little light on quantity! Good to see such a great selection of Portuguese wines! Friendly service
We visited for lunch on a Sunday to celebrate our anniversary. When we sat down outside we were told that due to the deep fat fryer breaking down over the bank holiday weekend, 4 of the dishes were off the menu, including the croquettes which I had been keen to try. We were disappointed as it was already a very small menu, and we considered finding somewhere else but at that point it started pouring with rain so we decided to stay. Thank goodness we did as the food was spectacular! We shared the sardines special to start with then shared the fish stew and roasted suckling pork. The stew was definitely the best fish stew I have ever had! It's one of my favourite dishes anyway but this was a different level! Utterly divine! The pork was very good too but very small considering the £21 price tag. For pudding we had a Portuguese tart and a slice of chocolate tart both of which were lovely. The Portuguese tart was served warm with cinnamon ice cream. Unfortunately the service was not nearly as good. It was fairly quiet - only about 4 tables - and 2 waitresses on so service should have been far better but they were incredibly slow to clear out dishes and chose at one point to clear the empty table next to us instead our table which had been ready to clear for a good 10-15 mins. However because the food was so god damn delicious I would recommend let it put me off returning if I was in the area again.
food wasn't as good as the last time I went... their fryer wasn't working so at least 5 things not available on the menu which was disappointing. I enjoyed one of the dishes very much but the rest wasn't worth the price tag, in my opinion
Rather cramped but cosy environment - bustling little place - great food albeit a limited menu. Liked it!
It's a great location in London to have a few drinks with friends. The authentic Portuguese tiles makes this place a lovely place to dine and the selection of wine is excellent.
We came for my boyfriends birthday. He grew up in the Algarve and was very impressed with the quality of food here. The bar seating added to the fun vibe and service was fast considering it was a Saturday evening.
Sensational - my girlfriend and I had a fantastic evening. Terrific wine and food. Service was excellent - would recommend x
The food at Bar Douro was absolutely lovely. I would highly recommend saving some space for the natas at the end of your meal. The only downside was the service. We had to wait ages to be served. Most times the waiting staff would ignore us trying to flag them down. And some were just down right rude. May have been a bad day of the staff been understaffed .. but not sure I would repeat it again... though the food is probably worth giving it a second chance
the food was superb and so was the service. the food is tapas style so I definitely recommend to try at least 3 or 4 dishes each
2nd visit and will return. Love everything about Bar Douro apart from bathroom facility but that’s probably my age talking.
Great place, delicious food, fantastic port and wine choices.
Excellent food as per usual and very warm service
Great food and service. Will definitely visit again.
This was very disappointing compared to the few times I visited when Bar Duoro first opened. Whilst the menu hadn't changed there seemed to be a bit of tiredness that had crept in to the preparation. Service was inattentive so only the quality of the wine list and the generally nice atmosphere in the place were redeeming factors. Needs a shake-up.
Loved our meal, everything was delicious, still thinking about the salt cod hash, staff very helpful, pleasant, friendly, and the bill was reasonable considering we had pre dinner drinks and wine as well as many many many plates. Thank you for a lovely evening.
I loved the whole experience at Bar Douro. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs cook which was fantastic - plus the smell of all the food was amazing. Every dish was delicious and had so much depth of flavour. Friendly service and lovely wine - highly recommend.
Our meal at Bar Douro was for Sunday lunch before visiting the Menier around the corner. The bar stool set up was no problem - but potential customers need to be aware of the arrangement. Food was delicious as was the wine and white port aperitif. Very enjoyable.
Great food but the seatings are a bit uncomfortable to relax for the whole evening.
This is a great place and reminds me of Porto, Lisbon and so many places in between. They have a great selection of wines and the food tastes great.
I had an exceptional experience here. We reserved a table and got seated upstairs away from the crowd. The food and service was excellent. Everything we had was delicious and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great meal in London.
Very nice food
Really enjoyed our time there and it's good value for money. The waiter asked the chef to serve us octopus on a Sunday (normally they don't) which was really good. Definitely recommend it
Good variety of tapas, excellent wine. All bar seating though!
I have mixed feelings about the experience at Bar Douro, the ambience was good, for moments I thought I was in Lisbon. The food was very good. We had the octopus with sweet potato, garlic prawns and salt cod hash. However, the portions were extremely small, even for tapas. We were served an octopus leg which was delicious but totally overpriced (£11). The wine was very good, but again ridiculously overpriced for that specific wine, £44 for a bottle. The service provided by the bar was excellent, I wanted to introduce the Portuguese cuisine to a friend and I don't think Bar Douro disappointed. However, one of the waiters asks us to leave within 20 minutes when there were plenty of seats available and we were still eating and drinking - we didn't find this reasonable and completely put us off from the all experience. We end up being rushed, didn't have pudding, got a £50 bill per head and were left not completely satisfied.
Nevertheless, I would still recommend Bar Douro for a special occasion or if you are looking for a quick light bite and a nice Portuguese atmosphere.
If you're thinking about booking...do it.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had the pleasure of in London. The team that take care of you do just that. They care. They make you feel special and then they serve up food that you never want to finish because it's so god damn good. Unbelievably good. Just book and enjoy
Well designed tapas bar with good choices. You can sit at the bar and watch the chefs preparing the dishes. At the window side, you can enjoy tapas while watching the nearby retro market. I visited for my birthday but go not particular special recognition when mentioning that. The waiters were generally fine, but one individual was not very attentive and did not deliver one of the dishes we ordered (it appeared on the bill - which they removed). In addition, dishes were not cleared away promptly which left us staring at dirty dishes longer that you'd like.
Overall a great little place. A wee bit expensive, but definitely worth a visit particularly if you just want sit at the bar sample tapas and have a few glasses of wine while you watch the chefs cook.
Great atmosphere and great food! Octopus was amazing.
Had a great time at Bar Duoro with three friends. The tapas was delicious especially the beef cheeks, the spicy potatoes and the croquettes. The service was really excellent - the waitress was spot on wit her level of attentiveness and delivered with a smile. I would return. The stool chairs aren't the most comfortable but that is part of the bar experience I guess!
Wonderful food, great service! Less enthusiastic about the level of music which made talking difficult, and the incredibly uncomfortable bar stool seating.
Very good food, although the service is slow
The salt cod hash was, for us, the stand out dish. Ribs were also very tasty. Our neighbours croquettes looked great and apparently tasted very good! House wine great for a sensible price.
Great food, superb atmosphere and fantastic service. Highly recommended
