Bar Douro Ratings and Reviews
Had a holiday in Portugal a couple of years ago and loved the food. This place was recommended to us as somewhere to taste authentic Portuguese cuisine. We weren't disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient - even though we arrived late for our booking! Would definitely recommend and we will return.
This was a great find. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We sat at the bar and ate the seats are well spaced so you don’t feel like you’re on top of each other.
The restaurant has a lovely feel/ambience and the food was reasonably priced I will definitely be going back.
We went to bar Douro to celebrate the 17th anniversary of our first date. The food was amazing. Great flavours, well executed and just different enough to make it a regular go to for what has become something of a monotonous tapas/ chichetti scene in London. The staff were great fun and it was it was fun to sit at the bar which directly overlooks the cooking area. The place has a great buzz. For an anniversary (in my mind for any occasion) the bar seating is too cramped (compare with cafe murano in st James which gives people an additional 50% space at the bar which makes for a more comfortable (and civilised) experience. The wine was ok, and not particularly good value, which is a bit of a shame as there are some spectacular (and spectacularly good value) Portuguese wines out there right now, especially when it comes to Reds. Odd that a place built around the Churchill portfolio only has a 10 year tawny as its oldest port on offer. It was fine but not anything I couldn’t have just picked up at Waitrose for a tenth of the price. Having said that, pairing their LBV port with the Carmel flan was amazing. Very good place, happily recommended but with a bit more aspiration and confidence around their wines could be a spectacular jewel worth travelling to...
Gorgeous little place & so authentic (beautiful blue mosaics even in the very vast loo!), I walked in & felt as at home as if I was in grandma’s house! Perfect for sitting, chatting & gently making your way through the very tasty menu, enough choice even for the gluten & lactose intolerant! Very friendly, knowledgable & efficient staff. Loved it and my dinner date was super impressed!
I had a fantastic time at Bar Douro. I visited on a friend's recommendation, so my expectations were already fairly high. Yet, somehow, Bar Douro managed to deliver and exceed expectations. The service was five stars, the chefs are right in front of you as you eat (if you are fortunate enough to get a bar seat) and the chefs actually took the time to engage with us in and took great interest in our experience at the restaurant. Which was the first time for me at any restaurant, ever.
Massive praises all around to the team at Bar Douro, I will certainly return and hopefully very soon.
Love this place. Warm and intimate with a concise menu of Portuguese dishes. It's all created with care and thought. Best for smaller groups (ie no more than 4) as it's a small place and seating is bar-style. But really, this bar format just adds to the atmosphere and warmth.
We saw a good review and needed a special place for a Monday night. From the moment we got a warm welcome to the pleasant surprise of a reasonable bill it was a lovely evening.
We were not that hungry but the food portions were good and the tastes exquisite - we had to make difficult choices but it's good that we can go back to try the other dishes we fancied. My kids are vegetarian and there's not a lot for them, but fish and meat were both tasty and good value.
The staff were great and it was good to sit by the bar and watch the friendly chefs in action - they got very busy later on but when we got there at 6pm they had time to talk. It was buzzing when we left, but not too loud, and it was a warm and hospitable place to meet, eat and drink. It's near my workplace, so I will definitely be back, and soon!
I had a great evening at bar Douro recently! I was sitting by the bar in front of the kitchen - best place to watch the chef in action. I have recently been to Lisbon and was missing some of the old Portuguese favorites. Bar Douro did not disappoint as it came highly recommended by a Portuguese friend!
I don't usually write reviews but the food, decor and particularly the service was so good that I feel compelled to. I was almost 8 months pregnant on my visit to Bar Douro and on arrival, the waiter immediately offered me a choice of appropriate seating. As the seating consists mainly of bar stools, he lowered one for me without me having to ask. Throughout the evening, both he and his colleague were incredibly helpful. They knew exactly what was in each dish, what I could eat and couldn't without me having to inform them e.g. Helpful comments such as "The cheese is a hard cheese which is pasteurised." They were both outstanding and made me feel like I wasn't being a burden. The food is also delicious and great value for money. Will definitely go back!
