Best portuguese restaurant in town, the food is on point, special mention to the Bar douro potatoes and the garlic prawns...Good vibe, freindly staff, very efficient.I will definitely recommend to anyone that want a cozy place to have good food and an intimate time.
Always a delight. A superbly-selected wine list, and tapas courses so yummy you'll be going after the crumbs! Service is invariably helpful and friendly, going out of their way to answer any questions you may have about the food and wine.
Great good as usual, high quality products, and a cosy and relaxed place!
My favourite Portuguese restaurant in London! Dishes are presented beautifully and taste amazing. Menu is very well crafted and wines are top notch. It is amusing to sit in bar and watch the chef creating the dishes. This is a tiny restaurant but never feels cramped, it is rather cosy and intimate. I look forward to my next visit. Oh and the pastel de nata with cinnamon ice cream is to die for...
Food was fine - quite tasty but nothing amazing. Service was really, really, really slow though, and it wasn't even busy.
Lovely food and ambiance. Good selection of Portuguese tapas. Fantastic croquettes and sardines.
Delicious, would be good to have a bigger space to have more tables
Great, friendly and knowledgeable service. Delicious food and wine.
Really interesting menu. Excellent food and very good Portuguese wines.
As usual my evening spent at Bar Douro was excellent. They have recently added porco à alentejana to the menu which is such a classic Portuguese dish and it did not disappoint.
Tasty food and very pleasant to have a conversation without screaming to the other :-) excellent service
True Portuguese flavour in small dishes. As a portuguese woman I didn't got disappointed.
Warm welcoming attentive staff, delicious food accompanied with daily authentic specials.
Looking forward to our next visit.
Felt like Lisbon or Porto.
Great food, wine and vibrant atmosphere.
Not suitable if you want comfort and calm.
Great location to go to before theatre- service food excellent tasted home made - would go back
I used to love Bar Douro , food and service has always been excellent , however last time food was average , not outstanding as i remembered it, service was good however I was charged for an extra £9 for two beers i never ordered, those were removed once highlighted to the manager.
Bad experience. Long wait , one of the dishes COD came out cold , Bacalhau à Brás 😳, and the pork came uncooked. I’m Portuguese so was quite shocked by this . Never again. Plus the price was over the top for the food and service.
This place looks good, has amazing food and a great Portuguese wine list
Great portugese tapas. Good sized plates and simple but tasty dishes!
Really enjoyed our meal here. We booked for 6 pm on a Friday night and arrived 20 minutes earlier and were seated straight away. We picked this place as we’re going to Portugal in a few weeks time and wanted a taster of the food before we went. It was difficult to find a Portuguese place but this had some great reviews. We had seats at the kitchen bar so we could watch the chefs preparing the food while we waited and chatted, which is always interesting! We ordered 7 plates to share between two of us and the food was so good! My personal favourites were the ox cheek special with beans, the smoked sausage croquettes and the cumin carrots! I’ve never enjoyed carrots so much! We also opted to share a custard tart with cinnamon ice cream which was lovely served warm and finished the meal off nicely. Would definitely recommend.
Love this place. The food is great. A little taste of Portugal in a very quirky neighbourhood.
Kept pushing us to leave as they taking the bookings for the next team too tight.
It is authentic food and good concept but became too commercial! Disappointed! :(
had to flag down waitress to get service. had the octopus and it was hard and chewy. the rest of the food was good
Really enjoyed the modern twist to traditional Portuguese cuisine. I thought the food was fresh, innovative & tasty!
I loved the compact bar area and menu and the service was really good but for me some of the dishes just didn’t deliver...the smoked sausage croquettes were awesome as we’re the potatoes with coriander mayo but then the gambas lacked real flavour and the secret iberico with pimento sauce was chewy...overall just ok...
A small but well chosen menu in terms of both food and wine. Everything we had was delicious, highlights bring the cumin carrots, sardines and very special creamy goats cheese. Staff were lovely. It was a pre theatre meal and the service was prompt and professional. Lively atmosphere in the heart if Flat Iron Square area.
Authentic food, though on the greasy side and the service was not particularly warm/welcoming. Also found it quite overpriced.
Great decor, lovely food, good service.
The Garlic prawns were great.
The pork lion dish was tasty
Amazing food! Best Portuguese food I've had in London
This was my 3rd visit to Bar Douro and yet again it failed to disappoint. Food was excellent as always and service was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. We ordered bread, olives, and Port and Tonics to keep us going whilst perusing the menu and followed it up with a couple of dishes from the snacks menu, a garden dish, 2 seafood (garlic prawns were heavenly!), a platter of charcuterie and a day's special, all washed down with a bottle of wine. The food arrived in batches of 2 or 3 dishes at a time and at no point was it rushed, with new dishes arriving a short while after completing those in front of us. Price was around £50 a head (2 of us) including service and we thought it was good value. We sat at the counter which also meant we got to watch the food being prepared by the very hard working team behind the bar (one of the chefs even came and asked us if we were enjoying the food). It was quite noisy the evening we were there due to an outside event in Flat Iron square but to be honest it wasn't a problem and just added to the atmosphere. Already looking forward to the next visit!
Great food serving. Great interior, expected more from personnel.
A lovely bar with good food :) Portions are quite small but otherwise everything's great.
Great spot for catching up with friends. I wouldn't advise for more than 4/5 people as bar seating and the noise would make it hard to hear each other. Delicious food and good service.
A nice attempt to bring Portuguese and food to the masses in the trendy Borough Market area. Food is good but wine better - excellent Portuguese wine selection
We arrived about 10pm, the chef came already to the table pushing us to order fast as he wanted to close the kitchen. Was our first time there.
The food portions were small for the price you pay, the bottle of wine was warm, but we accepted putting it on ice to chill down, we were still finishing mains when they came with the card machine for us to pay. Desserts? “No time.”
The food and the wines were delicious !
It's a perfect spot for a diner in the neighborhood.
What a find! I'd heard about it when someone recommended their aperitif of white port and tonic. Decided to book it pre-theatre and really wish we had had longer to savour the delicious food. There were 2 of us and I'd say some of the portions were probably more geared up to 4 people but we had no problem getting through it all! Service is informal but good. Absolutely loved the onglet and would recommend it. Also the sardines. Can't wait to go back.
Nice place but I was very unimpressed with the food. The highlight was Octopus with a sweet potato puree which was tasty. But everything else we had was very disappointing. Bacalau hash was really a soggy bland mess. Marinated artichokes just didn’t impress. And worst of all the limo pork dish was actually very poor - the pork itself was very fatty and low quality and seemed to be deep fried. Service was quite slow. Overall this fell well short of my expectations.
I like Bar Douro and this was my third visit, the last visit was not a success but I decided to give it another go, as I was in the area and with a Portuguese friend. The staff are ok, I don’t think they make an extra effort to make you feel welcome. I do find it quite pricey, especially the wine, it’s not a place to sit and lounge after the meal but the bill always feels quite steep, like you’ve been there for hours.
The food is the real star and it’s nice to be able to try lots of dishes rather than conmit to one large meal.
A great place which deserves to succeed but you leave wishing that the portions hadn’t been so small and are reminded that it wasn’t cheap.
