Food was great and the ambience of the place is fantastic. However, on the night we where there, they might had been short on staff, as the service was extremely slow and we where confronted with a server with an attitude when we politely asked about of food after 25 minutes of wait. We can understand peak hours, short staffing issues, etc. we are reasonable people, so please don't annoy your customers with showing them an attitude! a simple "I'm sorry, we are short of staff today" would had defused the situation. Instead, we left the restaurant with a bitter-sweet taste in our mouths...
Friendly staff and great ambiance. The service was fantastic and the menu had a nice selection of dishes in addition to the daily specials
Always a winner - especially dining outside along Dean Street
My sister and I searched for somewhere with ambience and easy to find location for 2 sets of cousins coming from Europe-this was it! They held our table for 8 people, made food accommodations and took a really great picture of us all to boot! Oddly enough we all ordered burgers-delicious, and a minor mistake on the chef's part was remedied with beverage comps! Live music trio playing in the bar area and a delicious cocktail while I waited for my relatives to arrive definitely made me feel that I chose the right place!
good food and service. We came at 1:30 and were able to get the one table remaining. By the time we left there were several tables available. If possible come for a later lunch
Very good food. Service at outside table a little sporadic. Was told artichokes in salad fresh but they weren’t but otherwise everything very nice and had a great time.
Lovely French 🇫🇷 cuisine and love their French wines. The only minus is you either pay with cash or Amex since they do not take Visa or MasterCard
Feels like Paris in that they have loads of outdoor tables and the welcome dogs. We love It!
Bar Tabac was a fine place for brunch. Visiting a friend in Brooklyn for the weekend, we came here for Sunday brunch before leaving town. We had the avocado toast, french toast, and baked eggs. Everything was decent. Service was ok - a bit slow, but friendly. Overall, nothing was bad about the experience but nothing was outstanding either. I wouldn't say no to coming back, but I would probably try new places on my next visit.
Brunch was excellent.
Brunch offerings were all excellent and slightly better priced than dinner
We were there for lunch this time. We had dinner at Bar Tabac many times before and have always left happy so we figured lunch could not be any less, and we were right. We were four with a 3yr old and had ordered all different plates.
All arrived after a short wait, well presented and well prepared. The perfectly seared tuna in the salade nicoise was sitting on a fresh bed of greens and other fresh accompaniments, the hamburger was cooked a perfect medium rare and served with some nice crispy and tender french fries, not greasy at all, the baked eggs with feta cheese was very tasty and moist, and they had nicely substituted the ham in my Croque Madame for some nice ripe slices of tomatoes, as requested. The Croque Madame was done with a nice sharp cheese and stayed crisp and not soggy! Thank you for a great lunch! The staff was very friendly and attentive, as always! Merci pour un bon dejeuner en bonne compagnie!
Place was dirty. Bathroom wasn’t clean. Service was terrible.
Very pleasant eating experience. Lively crowd, food was very good. Try and snag a table outside for people watching
Really great brunch with my parents who were in town visiting and locally-based cousins. Food was excellent and the staff were kind to put us at a big table in the back which was quieter since my father can find the noise challenging. They gave us plenty of time to linger and chat. Very much enjoyed. Great for a group.
Good food, good service, a bit noisy.
Do not enjoy the live music... too loud.
Love the Nicoise salad. The salmon burger was fire too!
Love eating outside here with our pup! Feels like Paris❤️
Bar Tabac is the perfect neighborhood French bistro: very cozy, with excellent food and wine. We were visiting from out of town and loved everything about it. My moules frites were extraordinary and my husband’s hangar steak was great. We will definitely return if we stay nearby again.
Great place with an authentic feel to it. Cosy seating. All of our (lunch) food was delicious.
Amazing, authentic, unpretentious.
Had a great time here. The execution of the dishes was great, the flavors were right on point, the service was warm, accommodating, and welcoming. The overall atmosphere was very relaxing yet it felt special... Felt like I was in Paris :)
Excellent lentil salad and hanger steak, yet the waiter got the order wrong not just once but twice, and we ended up waiting a long time for entree #2 to re-arrive.
This is our go-to place! A great local French treasure.
Bar Tabac was very relaxing and the food was surprisingly good. My friend and I had a 10:00 AM breakfast on a Sunday morning and there were only a few other customers and the restaurant was playing nice music and my friend and I were able to relax with great service and have drinks and very solid food for an affordable price. Great spot for an affordable brunch alternative without sacrificing quality of food and not having to worry about very crowded or busy.
Once a favorite place for us but not any more. Food disappointing, service slow and certainly not value for money. Staff were nice helpful courteous but iys lost its appeal. That said it was very busy but it was a Friday night....
French onion soup was excellent. Cheese had great taste. Service attentive, not intrusive.
Great Happy Hour location - snacks/drinks are good and well-priced! Dinner prices don't match the quality, but they have great live music and the ambience is refreshing. Staff is also pleasant. We had steak frites and a curry couscous entree that was satisfactory but not particularly memorable.
Wonderful neighborhood french bistro - great drinks, good food, fantastic service.
Food was very good, service as well. Cocktails were a little sweet but otherwise no complaints.
Delicious food and atmosphere. The only thing that was not excellent was the restroom smell at the tables in the middle. Great service.
We were greated by the energetic owner upon entering, and he is actually French. The food was good and in line with a typical French Bistro. I enjoyed my steak frite.
Great band for Sunday brunch. The band made the experience!!
Great neighborhood gem! Always yummy and consistently fresh menu items. Unfortunately, there was a terrible bathroom reeking odor throughout the restaurant and the service was unusually slow and unwelcoming.
Christmas Day lunch. Always lovely and warm service. Many regulars. Simple food and good atmosphere.
Fantastic service, great food. For a relatively complex order for a group of 6, they got everything right and cooked perfectly.
Celebrated my birthday there with 21 guests with fussy children. We had an amazing time - the food and wine was excellent and the space in the back was cozy enough for a large crowd. Our server was so helpful and accommodating. I would definitely book another large group dinner there.
The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. My wait staff was fun and engaging and made my whole experience great fun. Would return next time I visit the area
Great atmosphere, fabulous staff and delicious food. Can't wait to go back.
I have been to Bar Tabac a few times for lunch but my recent trip on 11/26 was exceptional! I took my mother and my 10 year old sister to brunch. We were seated within 10 minutes of approaching the hostess. The hostess, Nora (I believe her name was), went above and beyond to make us comfortable. My sister has Down syndrome and can sometimes be handful at restaurants when she gets restless. Nora brought out pens and old menus for us to draw on. Kathy had a blast. My mom and I really enjoyed our avocado toast and mussels. Their menu is a mix of American and traditional French food. Their kids menu has standard fare (chicken tenders, burgers, etc.) that is appealing to most children which is unusual for a French restaurant. We were seated outside so we could hear the band inside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
5 Stars for a perfect meal.
Delicious food and great ambiance! Very good service!
