I come here every time I go to London. Those pepper and vinegar potato slivers! Plenty of veggie options, too.

Food was not as spicy as I thought it would be but still delicious.
This is a very superior Chinese restaurant specialising in food from Szechuan province. Excellent dishes, really tasty. Maybe next time I will try something spicier!
I remember Barshu as a good Chinese restaurant worth a visit years back. It is no longer worth a visit for good Chinese food. I have eaten Chinese and Asian food around the world for many years. At Barchu for instance, the meat in the gong bao Chicken had no taste other than the light source put on it. The other dishes has the same problem with the meat.
Nice restaurant in Chinatown./Soho. Grabbed a bite pre-theater and wait staff was very accommodating. Good food, generous portions, good cocktails. A bit more upscale than the many restaurants around.
Delicious and spicy food including classics like mapo tofu. Especially love the dan dan noodles.

I ordered Dan Dan Mian to see how it would be in one of the higher rated Sichuan restaurants in the city.
The food was edible, though nothing like the dandanmian I've made myself, or eaten in other restaurants. Very little 花椒 / sichuan peppercorn could be felt in the dish. No 榨菜 could be seen, nor tasted. Nor was a replacement vegetable used.
Service was prompt, but far from nice.
The presentation of the food was below average and looked extremely "thrown together". On finding this out I elected to make this my only dish to be purchased during my visit. This made the staff even more grumpy.
I'll stick to Lins Restaurant & Bar in Southwalk. It's great every time.
Great Szechuan cooking. Spicy and tasty, eating with a 13 and 10 year old. Staff really helpful and provided some good tips on what to watch out for! Really enjoyable experience.
The food was amazing. Will definitely come back for another perfect meal soon.

This is one my favourite restaurants for Sichuan Chinese food in London! The food never disappoints and is always very authentic! Would recommend to anyone who loves proper Chinese!
The sweet & sour sea bass was terrific! Fast service, no frills. Big portions, decent casual style food quality, A little too pricey for the quality of the food.
Very fragrant food and nice staff! We will come back for more.
If you like hot spicy food, this is the place
Our first time at Bar Shu but we’ve often wanted to go. It’s quite small but in a good location with a very good menu. It helps that there’s photos of most dishes, particularly if you’re not familiar with the cuisine. Three dishes and rice was enough for us because the portions are quite big. All we had were really nice with just the right a amount of heat and spice. The house wine by the glass was just about OK. Service was fine and it’s not expensive for Soho. We’d go back.
Food full is scheswan peppers. Never going back again.

Oddly happened to catch a Gok Wan programme on the Food Network about London Chinese restaurants, said that Bar Shu was co-founded by the excellent Fuchsia Dunlop, so booked a table and absolutely loved it. Hard to imagine the food being bettered. Only slight minus was very rackety acoustics, but would not hesitate to recommend.
My first experience of Sichuan, the staff were friendly and helpful I went for the dumplings, the hot and numbing pork and the pork marked old woman’s bean curd all excellent.
When I go again I’d go with a large group so we can try a wider variety the seafood looked great

We had a soup and then the fish with chilli - both portions were ENORMOUS which is great but not so great for 2
The fish was literally swimming about in oil. Very tasty and moist but not at all healthy- perhaps some help or advice when ordering might have helped us from wasting so much food

No complexity of flavour in dishes. Just masses of dried chillies and Chinese pepper on every dish. No variation and not enjoyable.

The best Chinese food in London in my opinion.
I have eaten Sichuan food before and love the hottest and spiciest dishes, but this cannot be right. I asked for advice to choose three of the most typical smaller dishes. The rice was ok. The beef was small lukewarm overcooked pieces. But the chicken dish was inedible on several counts. First, the huge quantity of *salt*. To ingest so much salt in one dish is unbearable and dangerous to health. Second, the dish was swimming in *oil*. Third, the spices totally dominated any taste of chicken. I use Sichuan peppers and those large dried chillies myself in home cooking. But the point about spices is that they must be *cooked* to blend with the dish and add flavour to it - not added dry at the last moment. This restaurant surely should not be marked 4 for food in Harden's. (copied from my TripAdvisor report)

Great place. Liked everything - food, service, overall value, etc. Ambience was a bit dark though. Could do with better lighting. Also, toilet area was smelly. Other than those fab experience!
