At Barshu we want to bring you the best of the authentic flavours of Sichuan. So look out, among others, for the seductive 'fish-fragrant'combination of pickled chilies, ginger, garlic and spring onion, the addictive fieriness of 'numbing-and-hot' flavored dishes, and the refreshing tones of a 'ginger-juice'sauce.
We hope you enjoy your food.

Great food, not as hot as it looks, atmosphere bit basic but staff lovely
Best Sichuan in London. Hope they bring back the smashed aubergine soon, as that was my favorite dish
Nothing wrong with the food, the atmosphere or the service. We had 4 dishes and a beer , the bill was 92 pounds. Could have eaten at claridges
Great food as always. A treat and we can highly recommend it.
Great service and authentic food.
- Menu was restricted - they said this was because of the Eat Out to Help Out. But that doesn't seem like a good reason. So most of the dishes we had come for were not on offer, even tho we asked.
- Food would have been seriously overpriced, if we had paid full menu price. One very uninteresting prawn dish, would have normally been £24.
- Ive eaten at numerous Szechuan places in London (My Old Place, Szechuan Fold, Szechuan Gourmet, Baozi Inn and more). All tasted better - more complex interesting flavours and half the price.
The food missed the Szechuan spiicng and flavours im used to. - Very little chili - maybe they dumbed down because of the EOHO deal? We had two "Fish Fragrant" dishes. totally lacked chili and so just tasted sweet.
- Terrible service. We waited an hour for the main dish, which came 20 minutes after we had finished rest of meal. No apologies made
Great food, accompanied by excellent service and some wonderful food recommendations. Would 10000% smash again
Really excellent food - totally different flavour to regular chinatown places. Could have been spicier - felt like they had toned down the Sichuan chillies in favour of the peppercorns.
Excellent food. Service was a bit slow but otherwise very happy with the restaurant.
Great service from friendly staff. The food is outstanding one of my favourite restaurants in London
Great food and good service. Its covid time so there were not many people there - good for feeling safe but perhaps a bit quiet as a result. Best Szechuan I know of, even if it is a shorter menu at the moment.
The most authentic Sichuan food in London. I would recommend this to anyone who isn't afraid of spicy Sichuan cuisine!
Good food but the portion could be bigger considering the price
Great food and service. I will be back soon. thx
I found my experience at Barshu to be quite underwhelming. The hostess was very confused about our booking, initial impression of the restaurant layout was good - nice lighting and background music and an intimate upstairs. The food itself was disappointing my chicken dish arrived quite cold and my rice accompaniment a good 10 minutes afterwards. The waitresses were borderline rude when I asked where it was - definitely wont be going back anytime soon - wish I had walked around the corner to main street china town instead.
A great experience and an important alternative to PRD chinese food. Highly enjoyable, just watch out for the thousands of chillis!
Staff showed genuine interest in serving you and helpful with advice on choices.
Very good quality of food and flavours highly recommended
Don't miss the pounded aubergines and ma po tofu.... All the dishes we've tried have been wonderful but these two are knockout. They mix a great martini here too. Go!
Excellent food and very personable service! I'll be back :)
Traditional Chinese Szechuan flavoured food. Chopsticks are well made black plastic, the decoration inside the restaurant was very very lovely and atmospheric. The staff were very smiley and hospitable, one lady took a photo for my girlfriend and I. The food was very nice, lots of flavours in the food. We had chicken with roasted peanuts in a sauce and Szechuan style sauce chicken with two types of rice.
A rice bowl and small plate are given along with the chopsticks and napkin. They serve a nice selection of alcohol.
I wouldn’t recommend for people with allergies, and the menu has a lot of sea food and traditional Chinese foods. I recommend for a Chinese fine dining experience.
Absolutely love this restaurant. The food is delicious, and Barshu offers a great range of dishes so everyone will find something to enjoy or something new to try. The staff are all very friendly and attentive, my friends and I were well waited on throughout our evening by the restaurant's team. The restaurant itself is clean and well decorated - not a huge space, but it doesn't need to be. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to try Sichuanese cuisine.
This was my first visit. I went there because of the great reviews online. The food was not spectacular and in fact there are several cheaper restaurants across Shaftesbury Avenue that serve more authentic and tasty Sicuan fare. The signature lobster and seafood platter (£70) was really disappointing. The lobster was obviously frozen and skinny! The kung pao chicken was insipid at best.. I would score none of the dishes above 7 out of 10.
Nice ambience, pleasant polite and friendly staff, excellent food, huge portions, good degree of spicyness and reasonable price.
An most outstanding restaurant in London serving the most authentic Szichuan Cuisine! A MUST
Absolutely a Top Level Chinese Restaurant, specialising in Szechuan cuisine
The food is was really good, my mum loves their fish. People who work there are also very friendly especially the guy standing in front of the main entrance. Very good experience, me and my family had a really great Luna new year's eve.
Excellent food as always. Great service and atmosphere, great fun all round.
been there one evening with an English friend who wants to celebrate Chinese New Year with me, glad i’ve chosen Bar Shu. every dishes were delicious with decent portion. Cocktail drinks tastes lovely and all came with nice presentation. Service were so friendly! will definitely recommend this restaurant to all my friends!
The food are very much westernised, not authentic enough, all of our dishes are supposed to be spicy, but unfortunately it wasn’t, therefore we were quite disappointed over the experience however the noodles waa good, staff was nice, the restaurant is cozy.
In a area full of dozens of Chinese restaurants Bar Shu stands out. Well worth a visit for a really good and tasty Chinese.
We have recommended it to friends and no one has been disappointed.
Great food and service. One of the best Chinese meals I’ve had in London
I love Barshu because I really enjoy a place which makes me sweat with the delightful one-two punch of numbing Szechuan pepper and powerful chillies. Service is average, it is expensive, but that kind of goes with the quality and the area...
Poor service, too salty food
Food ok but I lived in hk and China so for me food was average and for London taste maybe.
It might not be the fanciest of places, and not necessarily a place you’d bring someone you’d like to impress (unless it is with your badass skills in picking out great Sichuan food!), but it delivers where it needs to. Service is friendly (if a little shambolic at times), and the food is just perfect if you’re looking for the real Sichuan down-home eating. The mapo tofu is nigh perfect, the vegetables are cooked with real skill, and it brings the numbing heat just like it should. Really enjoyed my meal here.
I rarely write reviews but the food here was awful. 'Beef' looked like it had been made from offal. Chicken was tasteless and fatty. Waste of money. Very disappointing. Would never ever return.
Excellent food and even better service. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I accidentally ordered something that was a bit too spicy. They saw my suffering (sweating) and offered to switch it out. I politely denied (it had four Chili’s on the menu - clearly my fault) and they insisted on taking it off my bill. The food was very flavorful and came out piping hot. Highly recommend the fried rice and dry fried green beans. The stir-fried chicken with peanuts paired perfectly with the rice. FYI, the super hot dish was the Thin Sliced Beef. Very tasty though! Restaurant ambiance was really nice. Good date spot - not too loud. All around great dinner!
It's probably the best Sichuanese restaurant in London. Atmosphere is fine and even a bit stylish on the ground floor. Reasonably priced. Not cheap but not expensive. The food is fantastic.
Bad service, got the check rushed, food was not spicy at all
