Thoroughly enjoyed it , went with family and each person chose something different of the menu , staff were friendly and welcoming , would recommend .
My partner and I went to Basil's for dinner and they have some great vegetarian options. The roasted stuffed butternut squash was amazing, nice selection of cocktails too! When our waitress brought our desserts to the table, we were very pleasantly surprised. They had written "Happy Birthday" on the plate in chocolate and put a candle on his chocolate tart. We hadn't asked or expected any of this so it was a great extra touch! The staff are so friendly and clearly very conscious of providing the best possible service. Thank you for a lovely evening! <3
We booked a table on 1st jan, after receiving a confirmation email, we booked a taxi to the restaurant, double fare with it being new year day, to arrive at the restaurant to find it closed! I emailed the restaurant directly to give them the chance to either take responsibility or tell us it was open table to blame, it is now 7th jan, and didn’t even have the decency to reply to my email.... not very good service, and highly disappointed
Burgers , fish and chips were good, desserts lovely. Disappointing risotto - consistency of porridge and no haddock to be seen!
Wonderful food at a good price. Service was extremely slow and forgetful.
Great food, lovely beef roast with all the trimmings!
Excellent quality food at a moderate price. Very good value for money.
Service was fabulous, staff are very attentive. Starter crab on toast was delicious, main was also lovely Sunday roast, although perhaps heated plates woul have helped keep meat a little warmer but will definitely go back and try christmas menu. Lemon chicken burger in brioche is a treat.
It was very quiet when we went in but it was early evening and it did get busier as we were there. The service was good and the food was good and well cooked. My only disappointment was the sticky toffee pudding, the sponge was a bit bland and not as moist as I like. The only real issue we had was the temperature, it was actually quite cold and most people were eating with their coats on, if it was like this I all the time I would not be keen to return.
Never disappointed, would definitely recommend. The macaroni with mashed squash is delicious,a great variation on the usual.
Great food, best fish I've tasted. Staff are brilliant, always very helpful. This was our 2nd visit and all of us really enjoyed our food. Also dog friendly which is great as my daughter has two dogs. Nothing is a problem for the staff. Will be back soon with the family when next in Edinburgh. Also there is parking outside, which is a bonus. Great atmosphere
We had a lovely lunch with good wine too. Great atmosphere. Liked it a lot and will be back.
Not the first time we have dined at this fabulous restaurant, and it won’t be the last. Everything about it was first class. Would highly recommend it.
Went for the first time just to try, have got to say it was the best brunch I have had in a long time, compliments to the chefs, lovely little place clean and friendly staff will be returning soon
Trendy interior, amazing burgers and great value for money.
Lovely wee neighbourhood gem with super friendly staff and a chilled venue.
Great food and service also value for money. Only downside was our table was near the front door and it was cold when people were coming in and leaving .But definitely worth a try.
Lovely place to go, staff are really good. Food was best yet, we all had different meals and everyone said it was really good. My fish and soup was best I've tasted. Very reasonably prices. 5stars to basils, would highly recommend this place to anyone going to Edinburgh. Dog friendly too
Stumbled on this place, excellent service worth trying
Really friendly staff. Service was attentive. We both had burgers and cocktails on an Itison deal great value. Food was of a good quality and still good value at the regular price. Cocktail choice was 3xcellent. Offers on various night was a good touch. Quite when we first arrived but started to get busy when we were leaving. All in all a good experience.
Prices slightly too dear (£1 or £2 too much per dish for what it is), and burger was incredibly salty. Also restaurant wasn't very cozy as sitting right next to the bar and people who were just drinking.
First visit to Basil's and we certainly weren't disappointed. Staff were friendly, was very clean and had a nautical yet simplistic decor. Food was amazing, didn't want my baked macaroni to end!!! Definitely worthy of a few more visits. Excellent value for money too. And to top it off, you don't get the staff checking up on your meal satisfaction every 2 minutes like other places.
First time visiting and all three of us really enjoyed all the food we had . The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the brutalist burger and was very tasty and was stuffed after it . Will definitely be back.
