Drawing from Chef Christophe Poteaux's French heritage and Chef Michelle Poteaux's American roots, Bastille's cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, prepared from scratch. Items like Bastille's house-made ketchup, Shrimp beignets, French pimento cheese and Flatbread, to every entree and delectable dessert are carefully chosen to represent what is BEST about Bastille, Virginia and Contemporary French food.
Whether it is for drinks and nibbles after work or just a night when you don't want to cook for the family, the staff at Bastille welcomes you. Enjoy our casual atmosphere where locals and travelers love to relax with creative food, drink and to share a good laugh.
Haven't had such a good bouillabaisse since I lived in France. Bastille is now my go to restaurant.
I think we went on an off day for the restaurant. They were short staffed somewhere (I am assuming) we sat for 15min without putting in an order or even drinks. Then I think our waiter forgot to put in our order so we sat around for another 20+ mins waiting. Needless to say we were very late for our evening plans, for two people it took us almost three hours from sitting down to paying. Normally we wouldn’t care but it did make us late for plans.
They did provide a free glass of wine for each of us which was a nice gesture. The food was delicious and we will may come back for more one try. Just hoping it was an off day for service.
Good Afternoon, Perhaps we were short staffed which could cause a delay but this is not an excuse for an elongated dinner that caused you to be late to your other plans. I'd like to apologize on behalf of your server. Although this is rare, we like to use these as opportunities for growth for our staff - please feel free to email me at management@bastillerestaurant so I can further investigate this issue and offer you another opportunity to experience our standard the right way.
Bastille continues to be our "go to" restaurant. Always outstanding in every way!
Enjoyed lunch in the cafe where you can choose from two menus, one for the cafe from which you have a choice of two from a soup or salad, an entre, or a dessert plus a drink for $15.95. The regular menu has a three course lunch as an option. My Caesar salad and risotto with fresh kale were both excellent and the right proportion. Service was good and attentive with pleasant French music in the background, and a window table.
This restaurant used to be in a more obscure location in North Old Town. The move to Braddock neighborhood has served it well. Nice interior, great knowledgeable servers, and delicious food and drinks. For a special occasion or everyday dining, don’t miss out on their culinary treats.
Wonderful meal. Excellent presentation. Outstanding service. Delightful venue. Not inexpensive, but worth it.
we were in Bastille for brunch. it was a great combination of good service, but allowing us to chat. the food is delicious, I had the croque monsieur and I would recommend it.
We enjoyed our anniversary / Valentines Day dinner / the food was great band the service was also good / the $25 corkage fee was a bit excessive.
Bastille is one of our favorite restaurants in Northern Virginia. Service and food are always excellent. We are looking forward to going there soon.
Authentic and excellent French food with many choices. Cassoulet perfect for cold winter.
Excuse experience. Food was delicious. Service very good. I will highly recommend to all my friends.
We were welcomed by wonderful host. Fermin, Jacob and the host ensured our anniversary celebration was great. Our meal was delicious. They each provided impeccable customer service. We were given a thoughtful card and complimentary champagne to toast 41 years of marriage. Thank you to everyone for making our time with you extra special.
Enjoyed the mimosa brunch with our family and would definitely return!
their food is amazing but their frites is salé but overall food was great
The entire experience was amazing. The four course specialty menu for Valentine’s Day was great from start to finish.
We had Valentines Day dinner here. It was very nice with a pre-set menu, 3 options for each if the 4 courses. Service was very good. It was clear that some of the wait staff didn't know what tables were getting what meal and which time, but the head waiter did a good job keeping everyone on track.
We had a lovely Valentines dinner, and this restaurant is simply wonderful. Food was spectacular, the wine equally good and the service quite good. Fairly hefty price tag, but great for a special occasion.
Ordered the fixed price four course meal for Valentine's Day. Appetizer salads were OK. Rest of the meal was fantastic. I had the Tuna, Steak and a fabulous chocolate mango(?) desert and my GF had the Scallops, Gnocchi and different fantastic desert. The server offered to do a custom wine pairing which we chose to do with dinner. The Riesling stood out above all the others. Looking forward to our next visit.
Superb Valentines Day menu replete with exotic cocktails! The Turbot was particularly delicious!Highly recommend Bastille.
Would rate this bistro 5 stars just for the food -- it was really excellent. However, the service was below par; not just one issue, but two issues and then a fairly rude send-off. The wine we ordered was substituted without our approval for a similar, more expensive label because our selection was not available. Price was not an object, but the vintage was. Wine was too aged. I didn't complain about that until later, when the second issue occurred. I ordered the apple dessert (Tarte Tatin) but a chocolate dessert was placed in front of me by a different server. When I told our original server of the mistake, he looked at it said he thought that it was indeed the Tarte Tatin. I insisted it was not, as I've never seen raspberries and ganache on a Tarte Tatin. The server then said he would check with the chef. He returned with the proper dessert. Not sure why he didn't know the difference...he said he is usually a bartender, maybe that's why. About that time, the manager came by to check on us, and I went ahead and related these issues to her. She was very courteous and promptly decided to comp the bottle of wine, which was very nice of her. She also said that all of their wait-staff were both bartenders and waiters, so that was no excuse. She spoke to the server about the problems and after that point, he was very abrupt, no apology for the mix-ups, and not a word when the check was delivered or picked up. I later related that to the manager as well. She was very apologetic and accommodating. We will very likely return to eat at Bastille, the food was very good. Hopefully, our future server will be more knowledgeable and professional.
We love to go to Bastille. Excellent food and service plus it is very easy to park there
Love the food. the server was very knowledgeable and attentive.
Went for Bastille's brunch, which was decent but not spectacular. It is definitely worth the visit.
Another fantastic meal at Bastille. We loved the revamped and refreshed space. A simply delicious meal, great and friendly service and good value for money. Love our neighborhood fave!
We enjoyed it
Great Service and the food was amazing.
Overall dining experience was outstanding. From greeting on entering restaurant to attentive servers and delicious food, we would highly recommend the restaurant.
The food was outstanding -- from the beet, arugula, goat cheese salad to rainbow trout over quinoa, spinach, carrots and a sauce that was exquisite to the profiteroles for dessert. Our waiter was personable, responsive. She really added to the wonderful ambiance. A really great dining experience.
Great mussels! We love Bastille and eat there several times a year.
Highly recommend this restaurant. They have the best duck and the best desserts in Old Town Alexandria!!
The food and service were excellent. Bastille never disappoints.
Restaurant Week was a great value but you had to put up with slow service and high noise level.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday. The food was delicious and the service was great! They even gave us a birthday card and champagne.
As usual the total experience was excellent
The food was very good. I had the Scallops and my wife had the filet. The best part of the meal was the lovely French waitress who was very kind with my French.
Bastille was just marvelous. A great dinner for my wife's birthday.
food was quite good. my girlfriend and i went for restaurant week and scraped all 6 plates. escargot, shrimp, duck, steak, chocolate tarte, profiteroles, all hit the mark. service was lackluster, but it was restaurant week, so that's not surprising. but the restaurant week value was unbelievable. cute place, good for a date. we'd go back.
Always amazing food!! Great wines
Outstanding food and better service. We took advantage of the Alexandria Restaurant week and Sunday wine specials for a great evening at Bastille.
