A whopping 80 per cent of our menu is vegan, so veg- centric visitors have plenty of choice while those with broader eating habits still get to incorporate eggs and smoked salmon into their weekend.
IT’S 5PM SOMEWHERE SO ADD AN ESPRESSO-BASED COCKTAIL OR GLASS OF VEGAN WINE TO YOUR ORDER
If you’re not doing dairy, you’ll find a selection of alt milks to pair with Coaltown’s Black Gold No 3 blend. Or simply go black, courtesy of a monthly-changing pourover from the South Wales roastery. Speciality drinks include turmeric, matcha and beetroot lattes, while freshly blitzed smoothies further fortify the liquid offering.Grab a spot on the long communal table or settle down in one of the Scandi-style armchairs and drink in the good vibes.

Fantastic food and coffee with great service!
What a gem of a place. This cosy/quirky café was just down my street, even though it is majority veggie/vegan, as a meat eater I was still torn between what to go for. I was tempted to order 2 things, but thought it might look a bit greedy 😂 So instead I will be returning very very soon. We were greeted on arrival, shown to our table and given an explanation of how everything works. All staff were super friendly, helpful and polite. The coffee was lovely too. All in all I couldn’t give any higher praise. Loved it.
Need to book although no specific tables are assigned so you can end up on a table of 4 when you are a two. We were waved to the sofa which isn't conducive if eating lunch. However, there was another table freed up soon after we arrived. Music sometimes a bit loud causing us to raise our voices to be heard. I came with a friend 2 weeks earlier and we had to ask for the volume to be turned down twice. Please be careful about this during the pandemic Bean and Bread.
However, this is my favourite breakfast and lunch spot in Abergavenny. The menu is limited but the food is interesting and quality superb!
A fantastic coffee shop/eatery. We love the decor, ambience and atmosphere.
Our black lab Molly is always welcomed with a treat
Coffee and food is pretty good too
Great Vibe, Friendly, Welcoming, Attention to detail, Superb Coffee, Good Selection of Vegan Options, Highly Recomended
We had a freshly prepared and delicious Sunday brunch. Everyone enjoyed their selection - wrap, salmon and toastie. The oat milk latte was particularly lovely and we liked the surroundings and ambience - relaxed and comfortable, as brunch should be.
Great service and fantastic cocktails :)
Great Cocktails! Nice evening vibe - A shame there is no light food provided in the evening also. A bit hit however! 😊
We had a lovely lunch at Bean and Bread, having never been there before. The food was delicious, contemporary and healthy.
The only suggestion is that there is another member of staff to deal with customers as I popped in a couple of hours prior to see if I could bring my booking forward half an hour and it took quite a while to gain somebody`s attention to address this.
But overall a very good experience and would go there again
Bean and Bread is my favourite coffee shop and never fails to disappoint! The coffee, cocktails and cakes are always delicious! Especially, the banana bread! Always 5 stars from me!
Fabulous breakfast and ambiance. A great get together with the girls!
Great ambience and great service. Really enjoyed the decor and playlist while having cocktails
We had a fabulous evening at Bean and Bread, amazing cocktails, great atmosphere, fantastic service. Have had coffee on previous visits and take out and again, great experience 🤩 Definitely recommend for daytime coffee and evening drinks 🍸
Amazing coffee and atmosphere!
Really lovely atmosphere, great cocktails and the waitresses were friendly and engaging. Mum and I had a lovely evening, and we will definitely be back so sample the winter menu!
Such a lovely first time in Bean&Bread. Staff were so polite, helpful and went above and beyond to make our visit so lovely. Felt safe, food lovely and although not the cheapest of “ brunches” the food was so different and lovely and great experience for daughter who had come from London to celebrate her birthday.
Quick service. Nice atmosphere. Banana bread was great, staff were friendly.
I could see the staff were very busy. But I wasn’t welcomed at the door. I booked a table in advance and there was no reserved table for us. We were told we could sit outside. I explained I had booked a table and wanted to sit inside. So I then found a table myself.
The food was good. I was so exited to visit having seen you on Instagram but I was a bit disappointed with the service.
Hi Elisabeth, Firstly, I want to say thank you for visiting us, it's so lovely to see new faces, especially at a time like this. I'm really sorry about the issue with the table. Table service is new to us so we are still having minor teething problems, which we are continuously working to improve. I hope this didn't overshadow the rest of your experience, and really hope to see you again soon :)
Usually love this place. But they have started charging an additional £2 for gluten free bread. 2 toasties, some scrambled eggs and 3 coffees, £34.
Disappointing especially as they advertise how gf friendly they are.
Coffee is lovely.
Hi Bev, Thank you for your review and for visiting us at such a tough time for independents. I can totally empathise that paying for gluten free bread isn't ideal, however many of our suppliers have increased prices over the past few months due to the effect on their supply chain. Our menu is prepared fresh daily and ingredients sourced locally, from the Caerphilly Cheddar down to our free range eggs from Raglan. Hopefully this sheds some light on our position and we hope to see you soon.
Bean & Bread was recommended by a friend as a great place to meet for a coffee and light lunch, and it turned out to be perfect. Great menu selection of healthy and delicious food, comfy and spacious seating, light and airy atmosphere and friendly staff. We'll definitely be back!
Brunch on a Saturday morning with cronuts being served too. A fab location for brunch any day of the week.
Visited Bean & Bread on a Thursday evening for cocktails and had a lovely time. Wonderfully original, delicious and quirky cocktails, presented beautifully by such lovely people. The ladies working there were so welcoming and friendly And we were also very impressed by the Covid prevention measures and felt very safe. We will be definitely going back!
Lovely Cocktails, Excellent Service, Great Atmosphere!
Really nice food, lovely setup in the place and relaxing atmosphere. Surprised when we asked for a menu to be told, “we”re just trying to find one” followed 5 minutes later with, “sorry we’re still looking”... The staff to be fair were nice and friendly.
Awesome as ever! We're fast becoming regulars since our move from London
Perfect place for brunch. Relaxed friendly and efficient service. Delicious food and beautifully presented.
Brunch in my favourite location
Fantastic night enjoying the cocktails. Fabulous vibe and ambiance - great to catch up with friends here.
Very bad experience of eat out to help out. Very few items available from the menu due to being sold out (3 hours since opening). Waitress who greeted us was wearing her mask over her mouth but not her nose (!?) and repeatedly touched the mask (!!!??). Tables definitely did not leave 2 metres between guests when seated but even worse was having to squeeze past seated diners to get to table and having people squeeze past me when I was seated too. Perhaps this place is better when social distancing and Covid measures aren't in place but I certainly don't recommend at the moment.
Disappointing. Poached eggs were inedible. The white wasn’t cooked so was snotty and wobbled like jelly, the yolk was completely hard. It was off-putting so I asked for mine to be taken off my plate. The girl went and spoke to the kitchen then came back out and said the chef wanted to cook it all again, so took our three plates back to the kitchen. We waited ten minutes then the chef came out and said she’d have to give us a refund because they didn’t have enough stock to cook fresh food for us. I explained we were happy to eat the avo on toast and smoked salmon, we’d just wanted our egg taken off as it was like a gelatinous wobbly thing on the plate. We waited another five minutes and the waitress came back out with all three plates, all with the snotty eggs still on them, saying she didn’t know which plate was which anymore. So we guessed whose plate was whose, and took them back. I said that we’d only wanted the egg taken off as it was quite off-putting and she said they couldn’t touch the plates once they’d gone out because of Covid precautions. So we had the plates back, complete with gross eggs which we had to scrape off ourselves, but now also cold as they’d been taken back into the kitchen for ten minutes. Won’t be going back there again.
Fabulous brunch, always enjoy. Such a fabulous venue.
The place has been fitted out and decorated very well - looks like a quirky modern cafe. Unfortunately there didn’t appear to be any manager in control and the service was pretty woeful. Lots of young staff who didn’t know what they were doing yet and were very slow (hopefully will improve).
Not sure how it’s possible as a coffee shop but they ran out of filter coffee... then told us they ran out of green tea 5 mins later. And when our food finally arrived they had run out of eggs!! Bearing in mind it’s a small menu where majority is breakfast/brunch involving eggs - you’d think they’d stock up, especially for a weekend.
Will give benefit of the doubt and try again but was expecting it to be better.
Excellent food, great coffee and fantastic friendly efficient service.
Than you !
Delicious brunch made with locally sourced fresh food and wonderful coffee. Very friendly staff and beautiful surroundings.
Food was good service also very good. Some concerns with Covid precautions, cutlery left on tables in dishes at all times so anyone could have touched them. No track and trace details taken either which all other sit in cafes/restaurants are taking at the moment.
Hi Jess, Thank you for your review. For customers who have booked via OpenTable, we already have your details therefore don't need to ask for them when you arrive. We also endeavour to monitor tables and if a party sits at a table and then leaves we will remove cutlery and sanitise before another party sits down. We will definitely take your comments on board to improve our safety precautions. Thank you, Jess
