The current owners took over the venue in January 2016 holding a clear vision for its future. The aim was to bring Becketts back with a strong concept, attracting a cool crowd as well as retaining appeal to its loyal client base and sustaining its authenticity.
This Grade II listed building has been lovingly repaired, refurbished and meticulously brought back to life. Featuring 4 floors of hand made wood designs, cool marble, glass, steel and ambient lighting, the finished result is something very special and distinctively unique.
The Becketts team are so excited to show you our venue and will be happy to give you a tour, talk you through our delicious menu and serve you a drink in our elegantly designed bar.
We cater to groups of all sizes whether its a cosy meal for 2 or a wedding reception with 100 guests.
It’s a great place especially for drinks , the atmosphere and service are great , food average
I was disappointed - for 2 main reasons:
1. It was cold in the restaurant & despite mentioning this 2 times to the staff, enough was not done until the very end of the evening! My friend was sitting there in a coat & I had a big woolly scarf around me. No manager came over to speak to us about it. Just young (& very pleasant) waiters
2. I had the risotto which was not hot. It wasn't cold but was warm & not hot enough. I don't think the plates were hot either. I did not mention as was with friends & after complaining about the heating (or lack of), I just didn't want to moan again as it affects your evening.
Overall I was just disappointed after previous visits which I had enjoyed.
For a special occasion, Becketts was superb!
Cold food - Long wait - got order wrong/forgot bits. It was like they had a heavy Saturday night.
We had to remind them a few times.
Roast was dry, barely any gravy, food was delayed due to 'new cauliflower cheese being cooked' .... that came out rock hard and cold, the stuffing was like a golf ball. So overcooked.
Really disappointed after the recommendation.
Not much choice of main dishes, there were only two choices my husband and I were interested in. For the price of the meals, we expected more. The lamb shank needed a potato side dish or more substantial vegetables.
The white chocolate mousse was delicious, the ginger cake was not.
There are lots of different seating areas but the three times we’ve visited, we’ve always been sat on the same area, whether on a busy night or not. This area does not have a nice ambiance and on this most recent visit, a Very cold night, the air conditioning unit was still blowing cold air on us, I had to keep my coat on my knees. For a very expensive meal, we were disappointed with the ambiance AND the food. The service was good though.
Beautiful location and building!! Staff were attentive and knowledgable as well as acocomodating. Our food was wonderful and we chose to have several starters instead of a main each and all were expertly produced with amazing flavours. Thank you so much!!
Very very expensive for the portion size. The sizes are like you would get on a taster menu, not an a la carte. One type of dish (chicken) was very salty, which made it inedible for the person who had ordered it. Everybody left hungry. Staff were attentive and polite however, and despite the music volume being akin to a cocktail bar/club the decor was modern and nice. Overall very disappointing, if you’re going to do tasing menu style, make it a tasting menu. If not, accept that putting rocks and leaves on a plate to make the plate look busy doesn’t mean customers get filled up. Would not recommend off this experience.
Great restaurant with good food. Service was good but it was quiet when we went as it was during the day.
Great Sunday lunch, just what we needed after the Great South Run!!
I had gift vouchers to redeem and the manageress was very rude saying they were out of date, i told her that they were given to us less than a year ago and asked her to check their record of purchase, which she did eventually after arguing with me. She then checked and said that they were in date... no apology just very rude ... lacking any customer service skill.
bottomless brunch not really good value, only had 5 glasses as waitress not around much. lovely food and would return for that but not with that option.
Five of us (plus two dogs) went to Beckett's for breakfast on Saturday. As always the food was was excellent and the restaurant had a fantastic vibe. Service was attentive if a little disjointed. It's right up there as one of the best breakfasts in the area, albeit probably the most expensive.
Book to avoid disappointment.
Visited Becketts for dinner. Lovely venue, relaxed ambience. Service and food were excellent, opted for 4 stars though for the food, as we all found the portions a little small. Other than that, 5 stars all round.
Never been here before but so pleased we came food excellent and the staff were lovely highly recommend
Went for Sunday lunch. We were seated promptly but then took a while to order a drink and food. When the roasts came they were well presented and tasted delicious. We then had dessert which was also impressive. It is a little expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. Would return.
It was booked for my daughters 18th birthday celebrations. We had a truly special afternoon. Thank you
Beautiful restaurant with friendly staff and great service. The food was gorgeous ordered the steak and probably the best steak I've eaten for a long time as cooked to perfection. After dinner we moved to the bar at the front of the resturant for a drink. Woukd highly recommend this place to anyone for any occasion.
The staff were friendly but while sitting down different staff kept coming over asking the same questions.so no organisation.the food was lovely except the fries were way to salty.I explained to the waitress who went to see the chef and never came back to say anything .when we paid we were asked if the meal was ok and I explained the fries were way to salty. The waitress then said we should have said so as she would have taken the fries off the bill .wont be back
Found this restaurant in Southsea where my son has uni digs , took him for a treat before returning home , best Steak ever great staff and very stylish.
Such a shame. We used to love the Sunday lunches at Becketts. Seems the food has gone down hill... Instead of the wonderful fresh tasting roast potatoes, we were served with very sad looking potatoes that were almost identical to smooth frozen Aunt Bessie roasties... Had they been deep fried rather than roasted?!? Where was the light and crispy Yorkshire pudding?!? Instead a flat, soggy half risen sorry looking Yorkshire... sat in the middle of it was a hard ball of stuffing the size of a ping pong ball... what on earth happened to the old chief?!? Has he or she been replaced by a friend or relative of the owner... I asked the waiter and sure enough the chief had changed, he seemed excited... said the potatoes were severed in honey and no longer cooked in the oven.. We politely smiled, but really we just felt sorry for Becketts...
Food was amazing and staff were super efficient and polite. Lovely atmosphere
We had a wonderful anniversary meal. A lovely touch was the complimentary dessert with happy anniversary in chocolate. Looking forward to the new menu! Thanks to all.
Amazing! As always 10 out of 10.
I’d visited for the restaurant for bottomless brunch on a previous occasion so decided to try dinner here with a friend.
We were both starving and when the main course arrived it looked a little small but was actually the perfect sized portion and left room for dessert!
The desserts looked delicious and I probably could have ordered 4 or 5 of them. Will definitely be returning again with husband in tow!
Quality food and friendly polite service. Really enjoyed our evening. Recommended.
First time at this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. Not a huge menu but we wanted to eat all the mains and so we will aim to do this over the coming months! Again, limited wine list but we went with the Primitivo, good value for money
Lovely evening at Becketts. Food was absolutely delicious and will definitely be returning soon x
Food was excellent. However on arrival we were not made to feel welcome, we attempted to buy drinks at the bar for 15 minutes with various staff looking busy. Once we were acknowledged, the service was fine.
Another fabulous meal a wonderful
Evening thank you
Food was of amazing food flavour and quality. Staff where helpful, friendly and couldn’t do enough for you.
The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the Yorkshire puddings, from looking their social media before hand they display massively, huge Yorkshire puddings this wasn’t the case. They did give us an extra one each but they weren’t what we expected at all and for us, a good Yorkshire pudding makes or breaks the roast dinner.
Great food, great vibrant place something for everyone in my book...a real mix of music in the background
Service excellent as were main courses, steak, tuna & vegetarian. Would have given 5 stars but desserts let side down. Supposed to be peach & passion fruit Eton mess. But peach was underripe & rock hard. No flavour. Middle was frozen. Music was too noisy when we arrived but staff happily turned down when we asked.
Great food in a lovely atmosphere with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Thanks
Food was standard. Very noisy. Service was pleasant and the venue was lovely
Never been to Becketts before but will definitely be going back. The service is excellent, not rushed and the dinnig area is well set with plenty of room with attentive staff. The food was excellent and well presented, I can recommend the fillet steaks they were to die for.
The new enlarged Beckett's has obviously got to work hard for its living. Attentive and friendly service certainly gives a good first impression and the fit between the old and newly acquired parts is seamless. Small but interesting cocktail menu and nice balanced food and wine list BUT after the smallest starter ever encountered (3 minute arancini no bigger than walnuts, soused with green sauce), I was in critical mood. Chicken kebabs and a starter portion of moules satisfied my guests; my full bucket of moules was a trifle heavy but again my guests were happy with steak and an interesting salad apiece. Yes, I'd recommend and not just for old times' sake ( I have been a Becketts fan for years), but I would warn them off the arancini !
Good Food, nice atmosphere good choice in Portsmouth
Had a lovely meal on Thursday evening with my Mother. We had a seafood sharing platter which was very well presented and good value. We then had the neck of lamb and the pork belly...both of which were great. There was a noisy wedding reception going on in one side of the restaurant but that didn’t detract from a very enjoyable meal. Our waitress Yasmin was very polite, efficient and clearly an asset to the team. Could not fault anything, as a fellow restauranteur it’s rare for me to have no constructive comments but everything was faultless - will be back very soon. Thank you to Yasmin, the chef and the rest of the teams both front of house and kitchen for a lovely meal. Best wishes Xian
Wonderful food and service. It was a delightful evening.
Very intimate restaurant and decor to my taste ,the service staff were good however the special deal on the Tuesday mussels was not told to us ,we had to ask for it ,also the hand towels to use after was also not given. Very friendly staff though.
