The service here was amazing. It was one of the hottest days when we went for dinner, and the AC levels were just perfect. The waiter brought over an appetizer which was free. The veg samosa, our starter was very tasty. We all had fish for main, this dish was okay. I'd have prefered the fish to have been cooked longer, the flavours were nice though. Dessert was delicious (chocolate flourless cake) and so was the mocktail I ordered (berry). They also gave us complimentary sweets/biscuits at the end of our meal. All in all, a very lovely evening. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Service was chaotic, food under spiced and came out warm rather than hot, staff looked bored.

Tired decor, everything felt a little old from the boxes the popadoms came in to the linen. tap in the bathroom doesn’t work, tables too close together.

Disappointed, in the venue itself but more so the food this did not feel or taste like fine dining. It was priced as such though.

Really wanted to like this place :(

It was our 1st time & we were celebrating a special birthday, which was mentioned at booking. Was extremely disappointed, food & particularly service was no where close to a Michelin star. Waited 15 minutes for menus before finally requesting them after being seated. Main course & chaat was ordinary, the starter platter was good though. The serving staff had no idea about dishes etc. The dessert menu was just thrown on our table, once dishes were cleared. On clearing the bill, told them about being disappointed on our visit, no senior person/ manager came to talk about it, which we thought was poor. Spilt for choice in London- would definitely not be going back there!

Amazing Restaurant. Great food and ambiance. Only marred by the rudeness of the female manager who tried to impede us from entry but the overall staff were amazing. Definitely a place to return to time and time again.

Very good food let down by slow service.
Unfortunately third time we go to Benares in the last 6 months and struggle to get food sent in a timely manner (45 mins for starters to show up).
The food is traditional with a twist yet very delicately flavoured and unique.

Nice anniversary meal Saturday night. They made a lovely fuss of us. Shame the group of men had to be so loud and irritating - kinda spoiled the moment a bit. Lovely food but the best thing was the service. Helpful, humorous and kind staff, really made it special. Thanks

The service was poor. They got the wines mixed up between myself and my guest. There were too many handoffs between people who waited our table. The service was slow. Towards the end I asked them to pack left over Biryani, which we didnt have much after starters and wine. The folks at the table were reminded twice but then it was expected to be collected downstairs at the reception and we were not made aware of the same.

We had the 5 course tasting menu at the bar and everything was delicious. My phone was running low on charge and they gave me a portable charger to use while I was there. The staff were attentive and hekpful. The bar was chilled out and a great place to meet with friends. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!!

We were eager to try Banaras in London since it was Michelin star rated. We loved the ambiance, the service was very good. My green spice martini was amazing and very creative. The food was beautifully prepared and served, but lacked an oomph factor. We had the lobster biryani, fish and bread which came with sauces that were a bit flat. Our servers were attentive and courteous, and made out time there very enjoyable.

Service was really bad and it ruined what was supposed to be a memorable night. Waited for our wine (waiter forgot to give our order to the bar) and our starters took over an hour to come! Just not good enough. Won’t be back

We ate from the street food menu in the bar, plus a dessert. Five courses and a cocktail for £40 (for both of us) was very good value. As we expected, the portions were small, but we added in a dessert and left feeling very satisfied. The food was delicious and totally without fault. The cocktails were also outstanding. Service was overall great, our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but it took quite a while to order our first drink, which was annoying. Total bill for the street food menu + 2 delightful desserts, 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and service was a little under £100.

Absolutely appalled by the way we were treated by the staff! Were moved 3 times because the booking manager made a mistake, our food didn't arrive till a whole hour later of us ordering and it took about half an hour to get anyone's attention; when we finally did we were welcomed with an uninvitinv and don't want to know attitude which is really not expected in a restaurant like this. All in all a horrific experience and I shall not be returning nor do I have one good word to say.

We travelled to London from the north east specifically to go to this restaurant for my husbands birthday. He enjoys Indian food but wouldn’t really describe himself as a foodie. I on the other hand am a foodie. My husband was happy with his meal but I found mine to be a bit too spicy. It then meant the wines I choose were a bit wasted as my mouth was on fire so couldn’t really taste the wines.
Considering it is a Michelin star restaurant , I thought there had to be consistency in the food presentation but my starter had two swirls of sauce- a green and a brown but my husbands didn’t have the green.
The man next to us was quite an arrogant, demanding customer who staff seemed to be at his beck and call which then left us looking around to get the waiters attention.
We have dined in many other 1,2 and 3 star Michelin restaurants and enjoyed the experience more.
I was however shown the wine room at my request and chatted with the sommelier.

This was a birthday dinner with close family and the staff couldn’t have been more charming, excellent service. Interesting and innovative menu, well presented. Pricy of course but this is in the heart of Mayfair, with the mark up on wines in the extensive list being pretty eye watering but not entirely surprising. A special treat for all this.

Wonderful food delivered by super staff who were extremely efficient and personable. Hats off to the sommelier who recommended a perfect Chenin Blanc to accompany our meal and to Maitre D who made sure everything ran like clockwork and was very charming. The only 'negative' for us was the lack of natural light, but there's not a lot that can be done in that regard. Never tasted Indian food so good!

We expect to be wowed by a two michelin star restaurant but we weren't. The food was generally very good, but was let down by an average paratha (one of them offered as an apology for a delay in serving the main course) and the complimentary petits fours. My main course was nearly cold. The service was very good.

Always wanted to dine at Benares - and I wasn't disappointed. We started off choosing off the 3-course set menu, but never got to the dessert - too full! To cap it off a lovely bottle of Argentinian Malbec - highly recommended!

A table was allotted in a secluded room saying no other table was free. When we insisted a table for two was given in the main dining area. All through we noticed that at least 3/4 tables for two were always vacant. The table next to us was free all the time.......... leaves a feeling of being taken for granted. We do not come to Michelin star restaurants for being taken for granted

A Michelin star restaurant should have two things. First a good menu and second good service. The food was okay but the service was extremely slow and bad. I would never go there again and neither recommends it to anyone. Whats the point in going somewhere where you literally have to sit and wait for them to bring the menu and then take orders etc. Highly disappointed!

Staff were attentive and friendly and we weren’t rushed. We dined on a set menu which was nice and tasty enough. The little extras were a nice touch too, but whether dining on the a la carte makes the difference I don’t know, but neither of us walked away wowed or raving about this place as a Michelin star restaurant. Worth a visit though, it was a pleasant enough dining experience.

My overall experience was average - okay not great. The food was excellent and authentic. In terms of service, we were expecting a better one for this type of restaurant. We were properly welcomed but one of our waiter kept a straight face (quite unfriendly with no smiles, no interaction). Moreover, usually high-priced restaurant would clean your table for dessert which was not the case for us (at least remove the crumbs). So I think that for a Michelin star restaurant, one would expect not only impecable food but also service.
