Benares excellent as always. The best Indian restaurant in the country
First night out after the lockdown. Waiters and staff all gloved and masked up; sanitisers at various points; menu with QR codes minimising touching; adequate spacing between tables. Best it could be under the circumstances.
Food was delicious. Great ambience. Very much respected social distancing so we felt very safe.
The team were so welcoming and almost apologetic at the pandemic and the changes they have had to make. There was no need. The food was exceptional and the only place we considered going for our first lock down meal. We cannot wait to return again and are happy to give our money to an organisation that has done so much for the NHS. Thank you Benares you did not disappoint.
Great food, and good ambience.
Service was good but on a couple of occasions waiters forgot that one party member was coeliac so could not eat gluten. They responded well but could have gone badly if not asked.
Great meal super service and we were given a free take home of the dhal I loved furthermore the chef came out and told me how to cook it. Cocktails also great. An all round great experience and we will be back again
The non-vegetarian set menu was very good but the vegetarian set menu was ok. The food in the vegetarian menu had too many dishes which felt soppy and lacked a little crunch e.g. samosa needed some bite inside rather than a smooth paste, the cabbage dish was the same. However, the paneer was outstanding and the bhartha was very tasty especially paired with the truffle bakarkhani. Some dishes in the vegetarian menu were also quite spicy e.g. the vegetable and soya momo.
The food was extremely tasteful. Our waitress was very polite & friendly waitress.
Fabulous meal and excellent service! Would definitely go again!
Der Service war erstklassig es hat an nichts gefehlt. Das Essen was sehr lecker und hat auch satt gemacht. Tolles Ambiente
Fabulous food and great service, our host was very helpful giving great advise on the menu choice
We began with cocktails which were a very interesting and fabulous twists on classics
Excellent food and service - would definitely recommend
Had dinner with family members. Got shown to a table designated for large groups. Had to kick up a fuss to get a table in the main area which we did. Food poor, my local India restaurant can serve better food at a quarter of the price. Heavy use of double cream... and that's not Indian! Service was poor, non of the waiting staff had a smile..tells it all how unhappy they must be working here. This is a highly overrated Indian restaurant. Can't recommend and will never return. Hugely disappointing
We said no spicy food and got the opposite. Allergies were not considered and food mixed up. The stuff was not very friends. It was not worth the price.
We had the tasting menu which was absolutely delicious and plenty of food. So nice to try the various Signature dishes. We initially didn’t have the best service - no menus and a long wait for the sommelier, but once that was rectified we had a very pleasant evening. Only one issue regarding the food was that for one of the courses, we heard from the waiter that the scallop was served on a bed of coconut, which actually (once tasted) turned out to be a bed of salt!!
We love Benares, never disappointed ... a little expensive for everyday dining but kinda worth it.
Booked for a pre theatre dinner - the veggie street food taster.
The cocktail was nice, and the food tasty. My husband is from India so we visit there a lot - I’d say it’s not as good as what you can eat there (and of course far more expensive) but fairly authentic.
Would say if youre feeling hungry, you might need to order something else to go with the taster menu.
Also, the bar was pretty quite when we arrived (as in we were the only people there!) but got a bit busier.
Also just to say although the deal is offered as £40 for 2 for the taster menu and cocktail, it was actually £50.
I think this is open tables fault not the restaurants but it was rather annoying especially as price had been a factor in choosing which restaurant to go to!
very nice place to visit with great service I would recommend.
Another excellent trip to Benares. Excellent set menu on Satuday lunchtime.
Amazing food, delicious cocktails and impeccable service. Such a treat.
Great food and excellent service. Would recommend the Thali.
We had the thali. Great choice, well prepared and presented. Service is unobtrusive and good.
The food was so average my local takeaway has more flavour. Apart from the lamb chops, which were amazing, the food was not great. It was so ridiculously overpriced that we were expecting amazing food and were thoroughly disappointed. Won’t be going back there!
The atmosphere in the restaurant was ambient in keeping with a fine dining restaurant. The staff were immediately attentive and welcoming. I felt they err well trained in the menu and wines.
The food itself was delicious, however the portions were smaller than other similar places I have been to. On a positive I was left wanting more after each course. The wines were well matched.
Overall, an enjoyable experience, the only thing was it was on the higher end price wise compared to similar and equally delicious places.
