Transport yourself back to the Art Deco glamour of 1930’s New York and the Jazz Age in Belfast’s only dedicated Jazz bar and restaurant: Berts Bar at The Merchant Hotel. Soak up the sophisticated atmosphere and let the cool jazz melodies wash over you. A handpicked list of cocktails completes the extensive drinks selection. A French bistro style menu is complemented by an extensive wine list and, of course, exemplary service. Berts offers live jazz seven nights a week.

Bert’s was highly recommended to us and perhaps our expectations were higher than they should have been. That being said the place is cool and jazz vibes amazing. Unfortunately the meal and service were just slightly off. The appetizer dishes (liver pate and Roquefort salad) were sublime. The mains (ribeye and beef bourguignon) less than stellar - just meh, average in every way. For the service the challenge was equally a lack of attention - not clearing plates and refilling glasses and then an over bearing presence to offer the next course - hustling us just a little much. I’m certain that the 4* average is fair, objectively 3-1/2 out of 5 seems appropriate for our experience…

Bert's is a great location with nice background music. The service was fantastic and our waitress was outstanding. She was attentive without crowding us and nothing was a problem. We would go back just to meet our waitress again. Overall a very nice experience.

The chateaubriand was incredible, tasty and tender. The salads and sides were a perfect accompaniment. Our server was outstanding and the live music was oh so fun and entertaining. Also we enjoyed the brand new cocktail menu with plenty of excellent choices.

Service was really good and very friendly and efficient. Food for the price was nothing special. Hubby had steak which was chewy and I had mussels which were just ok. The Jazz entertainment started at 9pm and although they were very good we were sat near them and couldn’t then hear each other having a conversation. Overpriced for what we received

The customer service was amazing. Being blind we were treated so well, drinks were incredible and food was amazing. Just very pricey. The live jazz was wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable.
