For over 100 years Bettys has been devoted to lifting spirits with life’s little pleasures; handmade cakes, unique freshly baked products, beautiful Café Tea Rooms, rare and exclusive coffees and teas and continental-inspired menus.
There are five Bettys Café Tea Rooms in Yorkshire, each with its own shop where you can walk in and enjoy breakfast, lunch and an afternoon treat.

Bettys is famous for afternoon tea, and if you want to experience the finest we offer, you can book a table for our Belmont Room in York or our Imperial Room in Harrogate. You'll be serenaded by our pianist as you enjoy a selection of savouries, indulgent sandwiches, specially selected teas and irresistible dainty cakes and scones.
Join us for evening dining Thursday to Saturday, where we bring together elegant surroundings, a refined food and drinks menu. Also, for that extra dash of after-hours elegance, a pianist performs live classical covers of popular contemporary music.

You'll be serenaded by our pianist as you enjoy a lavish selection of dainty savouries, sandwiches, specially selected teas and irresistible miniature cakes and scones. Set menu: A selection of savouries, Sandwiches; Egg mayonnaise with crispy onion on a milk roll, Salami and mozzarella on tomato bread and Flaked salmon, horseradish, celery and caper on malted grain. Patisserie; Salted Caramel and Chocolate Rose, Passionfruit and Raspberry slice and a Strawberry and Almond macaroon.

The food was excellent - we loved the rosti, rarebit, and fish pie. Our waitress was delightful, and sitting in that lovely room on a summer night was a highlight of our trip to York.

The food was very poor! The food was very disappointing with limited choice, the scones were tiny and the lack of filling in the sandwiches was appalling! Considering the cost of this the food was not worth the price!

Bookable Afternoon Tea with a selected time slot gives access to elegant upstairs dining area with no queuing and a live pianist to accompany while you dine. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable and the whole customer experience is excellent. (Rose was lovely and looked after us with professionalism and humour) Extensive selection of teas - coffee is available if that is your preference. All the food - savoury and sweet - was wonderfully presented and tasty. You are offered top ups of sandwiches and hot drinks as a matter of course so even those with a hearty appetite will leave satisfied. We were asked if we were there for a special occasion and I was presented with a Fondant Fancy complete with lighted candle to mark my 70th birthday which we were celebrating albeit after the actual day. Again an extra touch that made for a special experience overall. We had been unable to finish the cake selection and without any prompting were asked if we wanted the cakes wrapped and boxed to take home - these were packed so carefully and survived a 2 hour train journey home intact! The bread I had ordered from the shop earlier was brought to the table meaning we didn't have to visit the shop again on departure. 2 dark chocolates in a boxes for each of us with the bill completed a memorable experience so thank you to Betty's Tea Rooms York

Our children paid for my husband and I to have afternoon tea at Betty's in York, as my birthday treat. We had a fabulous time and felt well treated. The piano music was delightful. The waitress was friendly and professional putting us at our ease. The food was lovely and the refills of sandwiches and drinks was a welcome addition to our entire experience. The cakes were so dainty that we managed to eat them all. The salmon and dill sandwich was my favourite. Choosing which tea to have took time!

We loved our experience at Betty’s! They were very accommodating to our gluten free and seafood free needs for some of the people in our party. Extremely nice staff!

Book ahead! The line was around the corner. Reservations are for the upstairs room, but one of our guests couldn't manage the stairs, so they sat us on the main floor with no wait. We did let them know ahead of time, so just communicate your needs. Everything was delicious and so memorable. Was a perfect way to celebrate our special occassion!
