Bibendum Oyster Bar
If the sun is shining there are seats outside in the patio area to enjoy a cocktail from a great list of classics, and even if it’s not there are blankets…
The service was attentive but not intrusive. The food was delicious and the wine was very nice. We ordered a bottle (and then a little later) a carafe of Sancerre which was very good.
I travel for business a lot, and I look forward to trying out restaurants. Of all my meals in London, this was the most disappointing, and also unpleasant, and not-delicious.
First: I was not acknowledged or welcomed for a long time after being seated. The food eventually arrived out of order (hot food first, then oysters, then salad, all piled on over a 10 minute period).
I love trying new oyster varieties, and they listed 8. When served, the waiter didn't know the sequence of oysters on the platter (I have NEVER encountered this). The sequence of the oyster varieties didn't match the menu, so I asked them to leave the note with me so I could keep track, because I love oysters and want to know what I'm sampling. Some cost as much as 7 pounds each. However, I strongly suspect that these were NOT, in fact, 8 varieties of oyster. All but 1 had a very distinctive flavor, and were very large. This is not normal, even for this many varieties coming from the same coast. When I went to look at the oyster bar, as I suspected, the oysters were all jumbled together.
The salad (rocket) was so salty I could barely eat it. I LOVE rocket, but this was truly the worst seasoning I've ever had on a salad.
And: after all of this, the bill comes. It is very high. 12% gratuity included. AND: a 3-pound charge for water. Already very unhappy with the meal, and my treatment, this felt like the last straw. I looked at the bottle on my table: a fairly large bottle of the kind normally used for serving tap water. I asked the server, "I didn't drink this, yet paid for it, shall I take it with me?" No, she would have to ask her manager permission. "So is this just tap water?" "No it's..." she seemed flustered. I left.
The experience was unpleasant, and I was sad. I love oysters, they are my favorite food. Being deprived of this simple pleasure by the way this was handled makes me sad. It need not be like this! Just a little effort! ! Affection for your audience! Training for your staff!
Not enough light
Slow service and delicious food. New waiters not well trained.
Disfrutamos mucho de la cena. Era nuestra última actividad en Londres y nos fuimos encantados con el lugar, la atención y la comida. Un 10!!!!
I love Bibendum and have been eating in both the Ouster bar and restaurant for nearly 30 years. I booked lunch for my daughter’s 14th birthday - noted on booking - but nothing, not even a happy birthday.
The reason, however, for the poor review was the appalling service. Dirty plates, food arrived before drinks, wonky table, never any staff when you needed one - usually huddled in a corner chatting or nowhere to be seen.
Really not good enough!
I am a regular here but my food this time was unacceptable. I had the Turbot with hollandaise sauce and green beans. All the food was greasy, the fish was overcooked, the hollandaise was thick and oily. The green beans were old & overcooked.
Love the place
A lovely evening, with lovely food and drinks. Very lovely atmosphere.
Simple menu with what appear to be good quality ingredients well cooked. Relaxing atmosphere. Slightly noisy 'mobile phone' group near us for part of our sojurn but al good after they departed.
It has been the best londoner restaurant I experienced so far and Giovanni Made it even better by magical service and entertaining skills.
We will definitely be Back.
Thanks team, You are AMAZING!!!
Great time spent at the oyster bar, I very much enjoyed the athmospere the food and the service. It was mellow and professional lunch time, congrats!
Thought I was going to have a lovely lunch with friends. Lunch was mediocre, I had mussels which were not cleaned still had bits of beards attached and gritty.
Service was very slow. The best part of the meal was the dessert vanilla brulee.
I would recommend a friend to go for a drink and see the building which is fabulous. However, the waiting staff were not attentive at all, snooty and generally uninterested in guests. We had our food order taken and they walked off without taking a drinks order, we then had to wait at least 10 mins before managing to catch the attention of one of the v few staff that were working to ask for some drinks. We felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff the whole time we were there. With our mains we weren't offered any condiments and again had to wait an age to get what we needed. The meal itself took an exorbitant amount of time because of these reasons. On the plus side we popped to the upstairs to see the memorabilia and the staff at the restaurant upstairs were delightful.
The setting was unique. Seafood was well prepared and tasty. Service was not very attentive. There was a very loud combo playing that was not very entertaining. My big beef here, was I had stated in my reservation it was a birthday, never asked about it by the server and attempting to sit we two women in the worst table in the place that was completely empty. I really find that insulting. A restaurant never offers a couple (man and woman) the table next to the servers station when 12 other table are available.
This is the perfect bar for an early supper . great service , friendly without over doing the smiling
The best time spent in lomdon while dining!
The venue with the flowers decorated room is a dream!
The floor manager (italian) served and hosted our dinner the whole night with a big genuine smile and carisma. Overall, GREAT NIGHT OUT!!!
We visit Bibendum Oyster Bar frequently because they have the best mussels (Molles mariniere) in London. The salads are delicious, the wait staff charming, and the amazing Art Deco environment spectacular.
Loved this place for our dinner date in South Ken . We ordered a medium seafood platter and some bubbly which were delicious and fresh, great quality. The outstanding service made our dinner a very enjoyable and memorable one. Will be back, Thanks Bibendum!
Bibendum Oyster Bar is our all time favorite restaurant, the food is outstanding, the service is beyond incredible , the ambience is fantastic and the building is beautiful. They are fantastic with our kids special requests and we always have an amazing experience. Definitely is mandatory stop when in London.
Spectacular Art Deco building. Great food and impeccable service. Perfect place for a special but informal lunch.
Sunday evenings are always great at Bibendum Oyster Bar with live Jazz, good food and good service. The perfect way to round off the weekend.
Rude service. Bland food. Gas station atmosphere
Avoid this overpriced and overrated place
Always bright and breezy and excellent menu for informal dining. Service cheerful but often slow Well balanced live music on Sunday. Entry level Rose somewhat pricy ... but we’ll keep coming back !
The food was bland and forgettable. While the fish was fresh, there was nothing innovative or special about the preparation. It was very rich, but lacking in flavor. The service was also horrible - no one ever came by to offer us water. A very dissatisfying experience.
It’s such a nice and beautiful place with a great atmosphere. But every time we have tried to dine there the service is ridiculously slow. You have to ask them 3 times to get what you want it’s just awful. When we arrived we have been standing for 10 minutes because the staff was ignoring us then eventually I had to stop one manager or waiter and he told us to wait at the bar. I was sure that drinks at the bar will be on a house because it’s their fault we are waiting but of course we had to pay and we even paid the service charge for zero service.
The jazz evening was truly a success the occasion was a birthday and the team made anything possible to make it memorable, the manager even contacted me the day before to ensure I was happy with the arrangement they made for us.
Truly felt special and thought as a client should be.
Outstanding value for a great night of Jazz in a beautiful London summer evening.
No rince-doigts provided nor empty plate for mussel shells
Table far too small for the space
Service ist unter jedem niiveau. Schade für dieses originelle lokal. Seafood ist fein. Weinauswahlkönnte besser sein. Rotwein mit 28 grad serviert.
Good food, courteous service, good value for money
Very expensive and poor service - the staff were so unfriendly - no one smiled at us the whole time we were there. This is a very expensive place and I’d booked it as a treat for me and my boyfriend and I was so disappointed. The oysters were lovely but we were given 11 when we’d paid for 12 - we asked for the additional one and the waiter didn’t apologise and walked off in the middle of us talking. Staff and other guests bumped into my chair several times and never apologised. Not a fun experience and a complete waste of money - very disappointing.
The device was so slow and a glass of champagne was a thimble full
Really good place, nice athmosphere and beautiful. A bit expensive for the small portions but overall excellent and we will go back
Fabulous setting in this original building
We had oysters and champagne beautifully presented
The service was excellent and we enjoyed the food immensely
Great food, but portions I thought were small for the cost paid.
I was rather cold as double doors were fully open. I didn’t want to make a fuss; it was a rare meeting for the three of us.
All the meals were good but not exceptional.
Good seafood but ridiculously overpriced, considering that the sea is nearby. £7 for 1 Gillardeau oyster? Guys get real.
wonderful place, with original Interieur and very exzellent services
Terrible service, food very average, very disappointing sadly.
