The Bibendum Oyster Bar - a local stalwart - has been re-launched under the direction of Lyon born chef Claude Bosi. The large tiled foyer of the great Michelin building remains, it’s great for a glass of fizz and a few oysters (there are six varieties to choose from), a more leisurely lunch or dinner. Expect plenty of fresh seafood; oysters, langoustine and seafood platters, a brand new breakfast menu, and a comprehensive yet affordable wine list; with wine starting at £17 a bottle. In the evening you will find the same great seafood, and some of the Bibendum classics which made their debut on the original menu many years ago. Dishes such as Fillet steak au poivre, Calves liver and bacon, Fish and chips, mushy peas & tartare sauce. As well as some welcome new additions such as the lobster bun with string fries.

If the sun is shining there are seats outside in the patio area to enjoy a cocktail from a great list of classics, and even if it’s not there are blankets…

It is a good place to eat and the menu has get better in the past couple of years. It is generally excellent. The ambience can be challenged by people walking through the area on their way to the Conran's shop. Also the wine list is not good value, and this does not fit well with the excellent food. My hake with beurre blanc sauce was exceptional.

We went on a recommendation for lunch at the Oyster Bar! It was good food, with pretty good service.

What was great about the experience was that they were lovely enough to give us some little desserts to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday! Lovely touch.

Lovely location for a lunchtime treat. The oysters were excellent and crab linguine delicious too. The salt and pepper squid was slightly too strongly seasoned for my taste. All in all, very enjoyable!

We arrived slightly early and had a G&T At the bar and advised the Batman we had arrived and to advise when our table was ready. He forgot and we had to remind him and were them shown to our table. Initial service was good with a new French waiter that had only been there 2 days. My guest had the skate which looked excellent. I had the terrine as a starter which was also delicious. I chose mussels for main which was disappointing.... not much sauce and beards were left in. There was no bowl to put empty shells but there was a finger bowl. I asked for a bowl from a female wAitress but she forgot. It took rather a long time for the main courses to arrive but fortunately the French waiter came to chat and advise it was being played. My guest ordered a dessert which almost thrown at her... the nice French waiter must have been on a break as this was a different waiter. The place is slightly cold as we were sat in front of the entrance but I could see we couldn’t be moved. I would go back but upstairs to the restaurant. I expected slightly better than it was. Ambiance very nice.

Ostriche eccellenti, ottimi cocktail (provate il lavander cooler), staff gentile e preparato. Nonostante l'ambiente sia molto bello e nel cuore di south Kensington, ottimo il rapporto qualità/prezzo.

Be very careful of this restaurant. They add 13% service to the bill but this is not itemised on the bill. There is no line showing service charge. A sneaky move as you would now have to add up your bill with a calculator to know this, as the tiny small print on the bottom of the whole bill Is not clear.

We went to Bibendum for my sons 30th Birthday. The meal was great if not a bit pricey. However, 2 people who had the oysters were ill in the evening putting a dampner on the day. I emailed the restaurant, who have not responded. Helen

Was a perfect place to catch up with a friend for lunch before Christmas. The staff were polite, efficient and welcoming. We had oysters, followed by moules mariniere, both were fresh and delicious. Washed down with champagne, a wonderful experience.

We had the lunch menu. The fish soup was cool and when we mentioned this to the waitress she said 'Thank You'. There was no pepper on the table and we found it difficult to attract the attention of staff but it was speedily brought to the table eventually. The noise level was certainly energetic.

The service is disastrous. The manager complained -to us- that his staff did not speak English well enough. Unfortunately there were truth in it as ordering was laborious (for instance, I had to confirm 3 times that the carrots as a side order to my main dish should be served with the main dish, not the starter, and also "Madam" meant "Sir" and vice-versa). The service from the manager was frantic, with champagne poured not only in but also on the glass as well as on my wrist. Finally, the payment was reminiscent of some kind of action movie, the manager hitting my credit card and hands as a policeman would aim to disarm a suspect. When I pointed out that the service was way too abrupt for my taste, the manager did not understand what that mean. My friend rephrased it, and the manager seem to take our complaint as a compliment.

That beeing said, the food was excellent and served in lovely art deco settings.

Tasteless and overpriced food. The ‘ amazing’ oysters, at nearly £5 each, were amazingly tasteless. The crab salad was full of pieces of shell, the lobster linguine tasted as if it had been cooked by a total novice, and the halibut in a bouillabaisse sauce? Does the chef even know what the constituent elements of a bouillabaisse are ?
The ambience of the self styled oyster bar is cold and unwelcoming, and the service in the bar and cafe Is sourly.
I am surprised that Bossi allows himself to be associated with such mediocrity.

One of the best restaurant experiences in London. The seafood is mostly fresh (not frozen). Excellent variety and quality. Great service and the atmosphere in the old tyre factory was especially good for someone into vintage racing cars.

Since we last visited a year ago, the oyster bar seems to have lost all its mojo!

On top of that my wife and I both suffered upset stomachs. I don’t envisage us ever returning.

I travel for business a lot, and I look forward to trying out restaurants. Of all my meals in London, this was the most disappointing, and also unpleasant, and not-delicious.

First: I was not acknowledged or welcomed for a long time after being seated. The food eventually arrived out of order (hot food first, then oysters, then salad, all piled on over a 10 minute period).

I love trying new oyster varieties, and they listed 8. When served, the waiter didn't know the sequence of oysters on the platter (I have NEVER encountered this). The sequence of the oyster varieties didn't match the menu, so I asked them to leave the note with me so I could keep track, because I love oysters and want to know what I'm sampling. Some cost as much as 7 pounds each. However, I strongly suspect that these were NOT, in fact, 8 varieties of oyster. All but 1 had a very distinctive flavor, and were very large. This is not normal, even for this many varieties coming from the same coast. When I went to look at the oyster bar, as I suspected, the oysters were all jumbled together.

The salad (rocket) was so salty I could barely eat it. I LOVE rocket, but this was truly the worst seasoning I've ever had on a salad.

And: after all of this, the bill comes. It is very high. 12% gratuity included. AND: a 3-pound charge for water. Already very unhappy with the meal, and my treatment, this felt like the last straw. I looked at the bottle on my table: a fairly large bottle of the kind normally used for serving tap water. I asked the server, "I didn't drink this, yet paid for it, shall I take it with me?" No, she would have to ask her manager permission. "So is this just tap water?" "No it's..." she seemed flustered. I left.

The experience was unpleasant, and I was sad. I love oysters, they are my favorite food. Being deprived of this simple pleasure by the way this was handled makes me sad. It need not be like this! Just a little effort! ! Affection for your audience! Training for your staff!
