Bill's Restaurant & Bar - Bury St Edmunds
Food was good but could have been warmer. Service was slow
Excellent service and food as always! Great Christmas Eve breakfast.
Was lovely and felt very safe. We hope to be able to visit again soon.
This was a treat to ourselves with a 30.00 lottery win. We hadn’t been out to eat since the summer and had both worked up to 24/12. Breakfast at Bills was a lovely Christmas present and didn’t disappoint. The staff were kind polite and respectful to Covid diligence and we felt safe. Yummy breakfast traditional and garden that we both enjoyed. Thank you Bills Bury St Edmunds
Very welcoming. Felt safe throughout.
Lovely Xmas Eve breakfast.
Didn't give us the correct table even though we had booked for Christmas meal.
Service was hit and miss even though restaurant was not busy. Food was adequate. Vegetables were hard and overcooked. Cheese serving was poor
Great food and attentive service. Lovely atmosphere and great pre Christmas evening out.
The food was basic and pretty bland especially for the price. It’s food anyone could put together at home. Really disappointed as standards have clearly dropped.
We were seated within minutes, waited roughly 15 minutes for our food, and service generally was excellent.
I have been to Bills in the past and I’ve never had a bad experience. Top marks to Bills!
It’s was a very delicious brunch and the coffee was delicious
We have been to Bill's many times and we used to enjoy everything about the Bury St Edmund's restaurant. The last three times we have visited, the service has gone downhill. This last time was particularly poor. One young lady was really good and pleasant, but the rest were not so. The lady on the front desk made us feel like an inconvenience when we arrived and was very 'matter of fact'. This is how we perceived it, so it is a matter of personal perception. What was not perception however, was the poor service. We waiting such a long time for our hot drinks that after 20 minutes I had to remind them of our order. I ordered a pot of tea which had one tea bag, which should be fine, but it was in a large teapot with so much water it was so weak that I couldn't get any taste from it. When I asked for another tea bag, the waitress told me I would have to pay more money for it as it would be classed as a 'pot for two'. I understand this is company policy, but I should not have to pay more for an extra tea bag if they have overfilled the level required for a pot for one. Anyway, regardless of the very slow and hostile service, the food was also very poor. We always order the vegetarian plate, which is gorgeous. This time though, it was not, the poached eggs were hard boiled and the tomatoes and halloumi cheese had a really strange taste which had probably been a residue of a different flavour on the grill at the time of cooking. The avocado had changed from being normally fresh, to being cut into small chunks and tasted watery, like frozen and thawed. I left most of my breakfast as it was so poor and instead I ate toast. I still paid for the breakfast. I am not one to complain ordinarily, especially as I had already had to complain about the tea, so we paid the bill and left. I will definitely not return to Bill's anytime in the future. It is a shame as it used to be lovely and has taken a steep decline. Would no longer recommend Bill's.
Good service
With no pushy staff, nice to take the family out.
Food okay but expensive for the quality received x
Booked on line, very simple. Food and service great. Pancakes with bacon 😋
We used to go to Bill’s quite a lot for breakfast/brunch and lunch but haven’t visited for a while. We couldn’t get into our favourite restaurant just down the street so we decided to try Bill’s again. I’m so disappointed. I ordered the avocado on toast - it was actually repulsive and that’s not a word you can use very often in a restaurant. It had zero flavour, the egg was cold, the “chilli” was just some plain chopped chilli on the top but even that didn’t seem to taste of anything. There was spinach in the avo which sounded tasty but tasted disgusting, it was all soggy and just horrid and I hardly ate any of it but no one asked if everything was ok with our meal. We ordered our daughter scrambled eggs on toast from the kids’ menu - she’s not even 2 and there wasn’t enough food for her so it wouldn’t touch the sides for an older child. Her toast was dry and bland, hardly buttered. Just an all-round terrible meal. Don’t waste your money. If you want something more upmarket try Cote next door or for unbeatable food, service and value try the independent gastro restaurant/diner just down the street which begins with G ;)
Great service, really good food we will be back! Thank you Bills for a great lunch..😊
Overall our experience was good and the food was lovely. However we weren’t impressed with the 12% voluntary service charge that was added to the bill. I would have given a tip but I don’t like the fact that this wasn’t optional and therefore we didn’t get a choice of the amount of gratuity that we felt was appropriate. It made a big difference to the cost of the meal.
Excellent service throughout our visit. We asked to move to a quieter table upon arrival and were accommodated quickly.
Food service was pretty quick. Steaks were delicious and were desserts (cheese board and Chocolate brownie).
We will be coming back.
My pancakes were VERY dry. But I didn't say anything at the time. Otherwise everything was very good, I just won't have the pancakes next time I have breakfast there.
Good food at reasonable prices. Excellent COVID measures in place to create a very safe environment.
Great food and atmosphere. Great price, especially with 50% promotion
A brilliant experience at Bill's again which restored my confidence after an underwhelming dining experience at the last Bill's I went to in London. Also super lovely staff. Thanks Bill's in Bury St Edmunds..a great example for your brand!
Amazing service and delicious food! Very attentive waitress who was knowledgeable and polite.
I love bills ,the food and service is fab !If I have a small complaint ,we always seem to wait to b asked if we want pudding or coffee !My favourite place to eat !The veg or salad is always fresh which u never get anywhere else !Staff lovely too 😀
Always friendly (though not dog-friendly, some are), and lovely food. I can recommend the non-alcoholic fizz for drivers.
Very disappointed with my husband's meal. Beef rib very tasty but quite small served with about 4 small pieces of vegetable fries. Not good value at all. Waitress was very professional and did refund the price of the meal. However this did spoil our evening.
Bill's is always a good bet. The menu is ok but doesn't change. Service in this branch is excellent.
It was unfortunate as our breakfasts were beautifully cooked but my sister’s was stone cold and mine was tepid. No excuse really as it was empty apart from one other customer.
However the lovely girl was very apologetic and offered to have a second lot cooked. A great improvement! Thank you
Ordered the fish finger sandwich for my lunch, most disappointing could have made better at home. The quality of the cod goujons was very poor and bland, certainly not worth the £9.95 it was priced at.
Our favourite bills to go to. Lovely atmosphere and decor and food was lovely. Also managed to bag a discount because of the Monday-Wednesday lunch deal which was great.
Very Good choice, We had fish pie which was great.
Service was superb, very reasonable.
.
Lovely Sunday breakfast ,just one thing it wasn’t very warm in the restaurant possibly because it was 9.30am
Fab service, food and staff. Only thing I am not keen on is the tip being put into the bill.
The table we were given was not Covid secure, being just by the front entrance where the till is. Lots of people passing by very close. The meals we chose were also extremely poor in Quality and Value. We chose the festive Thai turkey curry, which was essentially some rice and sauce, with a couple of walnut sized poor quality pieces of turkey. This is not the first time we have been disappointed with Bills at Bury St. Edmunds, we dined there as a family group just prior to lockdown 1, and one family members meal just didn't turn up at all. I cannot recommend this place, and doubt we will be back, having been burnt twice in two visits this year. The reason we did not complain at the time was because of trying to limit social interaction due to Covid rules. Very disappointing,
Not as many vegan options as expected! I seem to remember you doing a lot more and choice now is very limited.
Our breakfast didn’t arrive, when it finally came out it was given to another table (who started eating it). We ended up watching our children eat, not the family meal we had planned at all and very little apology. We were charged for our drinks and our children’s meals.
When we walked in the girl at the entrance wasn't exactly overly welcoming. The restaurant was very quiet with 2 visible tables that we could see. We waited 10 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink and that was because another member of staff noticed my partner looking frustrated. Food was good but I think the meal was very expensive and over priced. We had 2 mains, an alcohol drink each and 2 starters and it was £70.
I asked for a white wine spritzer with lemonade. This was £12 which is absolutely criminal. Wine was nearly £8 and then they charged us £4 for a small bottle of lemonade. No one told us it would have to be served like this when we ordered it. You wouldn't even pay this in London.
All in all would not go again.
Very rude and unhelpful staff, we felt like we shouldn’t of been there.
Food as good as ever - I had the fish pie. Shame that I was the only one in the place by 3pm so no ambience, unfortunately. Will usually have a meal there when in Bury as I can always rely on the food.
All staff were polite and friendly from the moment we arrived. COVID rules were explained very clearly
