Food was lovely, staff were friendly and professional even though they were very busy. We were probably the last people in but didn’t feel rushed to leave.

Service took a long time and some of our drinks etc didn’t arrive. When it came to ordering desert after 10 minutes we were told what we ordered was no longer available, the. What we reordered took 15 more minutes to arrive. By which point they had put the lights up and were spraying cleaning products around. Shame as we have had good experiences here until this time.
A well chosen, varied and good value menu, and excellent service, provided in slightly funky surroundings, and with a new balcony area at the rear looking down over the river.
Serves all day from Brunch to Dinner and well located in old Durham, near the cathedral.

Absolutely rubbish, never again will I go to a bill’s restaurant, terrible service, over charged , waited ages just to be given a menu, not very busy and still slow , charged £61 which I questioned then told it should have been £47, I don’t normally complain about a. Restaurant but this was really bad.
We had dinner and food was great, lovely menu with plenty choice. Great value for money and even better with drinks on Bill! Thank you for a lovely evening
Sat for what seemed like an eternity awaiting a waitress to remember she had seated us.
After ordering the most valid of drinks this was also forgotten.
The food was average yo say the least. Burnt burger. Iceland french fries. The overall ambience was cold. The building with its front door wedged open was bitterly cold.

We had a table booked for 1pm ordered immediately and didn’t receive our food until 2pm.
We were sat in front of a constantly open front door so we’re freezing.
Staff were very apologetic for food delays and offered a drink on the house.
Venue was not that busy and it took 90mins to get our meal.
It ruined the whole birthday.
We have been regular diners at bills certainly for breakfast for years. This was our first time visiting since the pandemic started, we managed to get a table pre booked which was easy to use and set up when we arrived.
The staff were quite slow at taking and brining the drinks orders, there was also a 40 min wait for breakfast and it wasn’t full. There were 6 of us in our party and we ordered various breakfasts. Majority were okay but the poached eggs were cooked through and stone cold like refrigerator cold. We complained as it was on both orders that had poached eggs and they brought some fresh over straight away, both were stone cold like they had just come out of the fridge again. This made the hot breakfast in enjoyable for 2 of the group.
Staff were pleasant and helpful but slow, considering it wasn’t full wasnt great.
Great place always a lovely atmosphere with excellent service. We will be back again soon.

What is the reasoning behind adding the service charge of 12% automatically? I leave a tip but don’t like the way the amount is assumed and is left for me as the customer to request it’s removal.
Always a warm welcome at Bills. The food is always fresh and served by friendly waiting staff.
The offer on drink was a welcome surprise and the food as ever was excellent. As a veggie I like the variety of dishes on the menu.
Felt quite overpriced for what it was. Burgers were OK. Service was a bit slow. Seated next to the toilets. Wasn't a fan of the 12.5% service charge either, feels a bit cheeky for what the place is.

The food and service was very nice, it was busy but not overly noise. Would recommend it and was a good night.
Great service, food average, ordered halloumi burger and bills classic burger. Choose not to add cheese to the classic burger for an extra cost but burger was really dry without it. Side salad would have been nice and made the presentation much better.

Only issue we had (and I think this is pretty standard everywhere to be honest) I the high chair we used for my 7 month old didn't come with a tray and was too low for the main table.

We visited on a Thursday evening and Bill's were offering free drinks with the mains. Food is great and staff are generally helpful.
I realise times have been difficult but the cocktail and food menu was pretty limited. The restaurant was only half full and yet we were placed right next to three other full tables rather than in a quieter area. I asked for a negroni and was told this was not possible. Gin, vermouth and Campari were all available at the bar and yet they couldn’t be mixed together in a glass to make a negroni?! The waitress forgot our drinks order and had to be reminded. All in all, I probably would not recommend Bill’s to friends and I shall probably not go back until I hear there’s been an improvement.
Service by staff was excellent, food was good but not all of it was hot some just warm. Very disappointed to see when I got home that the bill included 12.5% service charge which said was optional but I was never asked, I know I should have checked bill more carefully when in restaurant my fault. Having said that I should have been asked.
The staff were lovely, the food was good and the atmosphere too. However, I was disappointed when it came to leaving a tip. I wanted to add it to the bill as I rarely carry cash anymore BUT I was told this money would not go to the staff which I was very unhappy about. That is why I have marked you down overall.

Restaurant was fine, service was friendly and polite, took an age for the starter to come and just as long for the main, couldn’t wait for dessert, excellent value and very friendly staff
Food was excellent as always but the service was really poor on this occasion. Very slow and no explanation/apology for this. We were left with the dessert menu for half an hour without anyone attending to us. We were also left a long time when asking for the bill. We ended up spending almost 3hrs over lunchtime which was far too long for this time in the day with the restaurant not being overly busy and we didn't have time to look round Durham for my birthday due to having to catch a train home. We would have been absolutely understanding if they were short staffed due to circumstances as that can't be helped at all, but there was no explanation/warning for the delays or apology. Such a shame as normally the service at Bill's is absolutely fantastic.
