Cumberland Sausage or Smoked Streaky Bacon Bun
Pan Fried Sea Bass
with an avocado, cherry tomato & caper salsa & herb rösti
We had a table outside to enjoy the last of the warm evenings. The service and food were great. Would definitely recommend.
had a great lunch - enjoyed sitting outside and soaking up the sun!
Good quality, well prepared & presented food. Pleasant staff. Clean premises & ambient atmosphere.
Normally a lovely good tasty brunch. We come to Bill's regularly but today it was so busy. We waited 20mins for our coffees x when they came they luke warm at best. Same as the food, slightly warm at best. We did let the staff know x they were apologetic. It's been better for food here. We will come again as it's normally spot on.
Restaurant has been refurbished. Very nice decor and more space between tables. Breakfast choice is excellent and service was friendly and efficient.
Service was really slow and orders placed were forgotten! Literally sat there for a long time before my girlfriend had to remind them an order was placed. Never going back!
Great restaurant. Brilluant service lovely atmosphere
Food & service great, but table wasn't ready for us even though we had booked. Also not made aware restaurant is animal friendly. Did not enjoy eating our meal next to a table who bought in a dog.
A lovely setting outside. Service was prompt and food well cooked and well presented.
Sat outside , very pleasant place to have lunch outside in a busy town , service was very quick and staff very helpful , menu was a bit limiting and prices expensive , but overall a nice lunch time visit .
amazing food amazig ambience....just took a bit of time to be served.
Beautiful and stylish restaurant and tasty food. Service was good but lacked some knowledge. When asked if the pancake sauce was maple syrup, we were told that it was, but it wasn’t, it was more like a golden syrup/ honey sauce which my partner found disappointing , if told, he would have ordered something else. Also, we asked for a baby chino or frothy milk, but as the waitress didn’t know what it was just brought cold milk. There is no harm to say I don’t know what it is let me check with my colleague/chef and make a better service. Other than that coffees and rest of the breakfast items where plenty and delicious.
We waiting over an hour for our food.
First time at Bills for about 10 years. Yummy food. Cocktail delicious. Service excellent
Nice place but the breakfast was unremarkable and cold. Cold poached eggs aren’t pleasant and the barely toasted muffin was also cold and unbuttered.
It was a quiet morning so I can’t understand why it would be served cold. I won’t be going back.
Was really nice with great service. We requested something for a friends birthday and they bough us out brownie and ice cream which was amazing. Highly recommend
Great surroundings, good choice of food, friendly helpful staff. Visit marred by disgraceful state of ladies toilet which I believe was quickly rectified.
Asked for a lager and lime , got a lager and lime but it was 2slices of lime in the lager , I then asked for a dash of lime (meaning cordial) but got the lime squeezed into the lager ! Not quite what I was expecting .
But the food was delicious as was the decor.
Bills lovely restaurant but on that day Service very slow
This was a busy summer's evening so I can see why there would be pressure on the outside tables. That said:
Guests already mistakenly seated on our table, they were moved but cutlery etc wasn't changed until we asked - poor at best of times but particularly during COVID
Long waits for drinks - half our order arrived and other half only on prompting a while later; glasses of wine ordered to accompany dinner arrived after we had all finished eating. This was better than a poor gentleman on next table who received a pint of beer in his lap
When served our meal, a few of which were salads, waitress warned us "be careful, the plates are hot" - HOT for a salad? Chicken salad was warm with wilted lettuce, not the refreshing meal we had ordered for a warm evening and impressive to mess up such a simple dish
Long wait for bill
We are from a large business in Reading and won't be booking for corporate dinners again
Always good at Bills pricing too high in my opinion. Also pretty excessive service charge of 12.5%
Every time we go to Bill’s the service is excellent thanks
A very disappointing visit to bills reading.
I’m very surprised that the waiting staff offer drink options (semi skimmed and skimmed milk) that are not available, and even tell us that it is skimmed even though we heard (and saw the staff) behind the drinks counter say they only had full fat milk.
We were not the only customers to comment on this.
Drinks service also very slow, it sure what one of the guys behind the counter was doing.
Also ordered two toast and preserve yet only received one set of butter and jams to share. Bit of a rip off!
Won’t be rushing back although my traditional breakfast was good.
The only criticism was the teapot burnt my hand - no warning from the waitress that it was hot 🙄
The music was too loud. The restaurant could get away with loud music but the music that was playing was terrible. Most of the time it sounded like a woman screaming waiting for a glass to break. The food arrived very quickly… not something one usually complains about but proces that it was not fresh and no time and effort had gone into the preparation and presentation. My waiter also smelt like an ash tray.
3 X Lunches selected turned up at the table stone cold! Returned all 3 to the kitchen, these were not replaced with newly cooked replacements, but returned obviously just reheated with the first bites still in each & left for us to work out whose was whose, compounding the original poor cold delivery. Venue looks good, but if u cannot deliver the food - forget it!
Waiter James was brilliant! So attentive
The food was lovely but disappointed with service. Had a 12.5% service charge added to bill even though only two of us dinning which seem unusual. It said it was optional but made to feel mean if we didn't pay. Had to ask twice for water, had to ask for cutlery and ask for desert menu and the waitress was miserable so not sure why we should have to pay 12.5% service charge.
Have enjoyed the food at Bill’s in the past but felt this time the quality was not so good. Not offering any discounts now which made the meal overpriced for what it was
A great place to eat, loved the decor, staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was good and moderately priced.
We will definitely be visiting again.
I was disappointed by the lack of vegan mains on the lunch menu. All they had was a falafel salad bowl and a vegan burger - very unimaginative.
The service was mixed. Our first server was very polite and attentive, but she disappeared and was replaced by a number of more abrupt staff.
Food great!! Waiter stunk of B.O.
Loads of people from the Reading Festival were walking in off the street and using the ladies toilet to wash up in. I watched about 10 people who were not customers do it and none were challenged by the staff. When I went to use the the facilities it was disgusting and messy with water and toilet paper everywhere.
Prebooked table, lots of space, air was a bit stuffy, window wouldn't stay open. A long wait before food order was taken and again before drinks were served. Restaurant wasn't that busy, empty tables upstairs.
Food was clearly very fresh but poached egg and hollandaise sauce were fridge cold in the middle.
Usually love Bills but v disappointed this time.
Fresh and tasty food, lovely outdoor setting. Attentive service
A lovely calming evening, which was just what we needed after a long day at work.
good serves, lovely food.
Would of liked to been informed of food that was not available from the menu on arrival though.
Lovely lunch from the
2 courses for £14 menu. Sea bass main and coconut and peaches for dessert. Perfect light lunch. Sat outside in the sunshine, felt like being on holiday.
Service was appalling. The waitress was rude to my friend's face because she ordered 2 drinks.
The waiter was so interested in making banter that he couldn't read his own writing, they attempted to give us the wrong dishes on 2 occassions.
My friend was given a drink in a glass that had lipstick on! It hadn't been washed from the previous customer and the waiter didn't even apologise. He said it was too bad as my friend had already drunk some of the drink. Eventually we managed to get a replacement drink after he spoke with the manager.
Overall is was not a good experience.
Lovely location and premises. Mediocre food. Poor service.
Great breakfast at Bills. Always go for birthday breakfasts' and celebrations. Great staff, lovely atmosphere, ample choice.
