Bird in Hand
It was our first time at the Bird in Hand, our new local. The food was fantastic and the staff really friendly. We are really looking forward to going back when lockdown rules allow! It’s nice to see the bar area is dog friendly so next time we will bring the fifth member of the family too.
Lovely food served by lovely people, in a lovely pub! Really looking forward to visiting again once this horrid pandemic is over! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Great deal again. Loved the scotch egg!
Great spot for a quiet dinner with attentive service!
First evening after 2nd lockdown. Landlord did his utmost to make us feel safe
Lovely staff and local pub/restaurant, always a warm welcome and fab menu.
Great venue to meet with friends during these more difficult times. The food was excellent and enjoyed by us all. Will definitely return when you are allowed. Hopefully not too long.
Amazing attentive service with great prices. The quality of the food and great portion sizes mean we will definitely be returning soon.
The pub has a large car park for easy parking and the inside is beautiful and traditional.
What an excellent meal!
I couldn’t fault it, very good value for money. All cooked perfectly. Friendly efficient service.
Well done guys!
Given the current circumstances, it did seem as though everything had been done to ensure safety- but the environment was really flat. Service was efficient, but lacked any kind of enthusiasm. Food was tasty.
Had a great time while eating at the Bird in Hand. Service and food were really good.
This is Covid Impact and not a reflection on the staff and food which was excellent. But the dinning room was emptied of potential virus holding materials and so was echoing like an empty room and another couple had children and so their voices dominated the room - no-ones fault and just a sad state of affairs.
Super friendly staff who make you feel very welcome. Nice restaurant section at the rear part, nicely and simply decorated. One of us had the Brazilian set menu and the other from the main menu. Great value set menu and a ton of food - 3 different starters/3 different main courses and a desert - makes you try outside your normal preference and All the dishes were very good. Great value, good food and such nice and friendly staff. Thank you
Food was terrible, like the worst roast I’ve ever had.
Nice garden space for a drink outside and friendly staff so would recommend for drinks
Lovely Sunday lunch with good friend.. Highly recommend.
Staff attentive were but were not wearing masks, all drinks orders taken at the table. The neighbouring table was quite close to us, but we had perspex screens hanging down on either side of our table, basic but ok. For starters, we had a very nice baked brie to share, which came with a portion of lovely large croutons to dip in - but we could have done with 2 more croutons each as we ended up with a pool of cheese to eat with forks. For mains we ordered a steak and a beef and red wine pie. The steak was good and cooked to medium as requested, the pie filling was very tasty and tender, but the shortcrust pastry lid was a bit on the thin side and didn't cover the whole dish, the thin fries were average, but the veg selection was cooked nicely. We didn't have to wait a long time for starters or mains to be brought out. We didn't have dessert. My gin and rhubarb prosecco spritze was very good. Overall, an ok meal for a midweek treat, but not somewhere I'd go for a special occasion.
Good quality food and a lovely garden. My wife and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast (beef) in the garden.
Good food - sat in garden so social distancing easy. First visit but will return
A great country pub. Food was very fresh especially liked the Fish and Chips. Staff were well trained and attentive. Felt very safe and good social distancing measures in place. We will be back
Friendly pub and attentive service, pleasant garden area but the food is mediocre. Crayfish swimming in a thin mayonnaise, I think frozen fish for the fish and chips, average chicken pie and lasagne, probably frozen/reheated, terrible garlic bread.
Seems like little thought / imagination with the food, much improvement needed to warrant another visit.
Food was pretty tasteless. Lasagne was just mince with cheese on top and no pasta. The chicken pie was a tasteless cheese filling in a dish with mash potato on top.
Had better food at a Wetherspoons.
Tasty food (best fries I've had in ages) from a varied menu - three generations of family were pleased with their choices. The owners truly understand exceptional customer service. The interior needs re-painting but generally a great experience. Thanks!
Sat in garden, great service and food, definitely returning, polite friendly welcoming
Great garden with lots of space and pizza oven. Recommend
We went out for Sunday lunch . Our table was booked for 12 . We ordered the 2 roast beef with unlimited Yorkshire puddings , we received our meals 47 mins later, there was no offer of unlimited Yorkshire puddings to what they were advertising . The plates were warm but the food was cold . We returned both meals to have the same 2 meals returned to us where again the plates were warm and the food was a little warmer but not hot
They took 1 meal off the total bill but when we got home it wasn’t until we checked the bill to see that they had put a extra pint of moretti beer on our bill that we never had . We will not be returning and we would not recommend this place
Very disappointed customers.
We were a party of three, and visited for Sunday lunch about 3 weeks into the outbreak of Coronavirus in the UK. Consequently, the Bird in Hand was less busy than it often is, with just 3 other groups of diners present. However plenty of space left between occupied tables which was welcome. We each enjoyed generous portions of a delicious roast dinner (beef, chicken and veggie). Too full for deserts, although if a chocolate based option had been on the limited menu, we may have been tempted. All staff were very friendly. We appreciate that this establishment is under new ownership and a long overdue upgrade of decor, toilets etc will soon be underway. Will definitely revisit.
A disappointing meal out. The bird in hand is under new management and is now a pub done on a budget. The dining room had no ambience on a Saturday night, quality of decoration and furnishing was poor. Menu was very basic and limited to burgers, fish and chips and steak. We had the fish and chips which was ok, but the batter was not well cooked. The service was disorganised with different people coming to take orders when it had already been taken.
Pleasant and welcoming, service good but they were very busy on the Sunday we went so looked a bit under pressure. Good sized plates of food (Sunday Roast) however I was disappointed to only have two slices of the beef which was the more expensive choice on the menu. Plenty of veg and all very tasty. Deserts OK but limited choice. Beer (Loddon brewery) a big plus for me.
It was VERY noisy in the main dining area so would definitely choose the bar area in future, certainly for Sunday lunch. decor lacking interest, very sparse especially compared to how it used to be. Despite my minor criticisms/observations we would go again, if they'd have us?
The food was good, the decor in the restaurant is a little sparse and in a cold evening I would expect the radiators to be on. Although, to be fair, the room was not cold.
The new owners have kept a lovely feel to a country pub, the food portions are large and lovely. The price is good for the quality.
The service is warm and friendly, we have booked again.
We had visited a few times before the new owners took over so went for on a Tuesday night where the food is 50% cheaper to try out the newly opened Bird in the hand. We really enjoyed the food and service and will be going back.
We visited on Sunday, the roast was spot on, it definitely got 5 stars from our party
The food was amazing! I had the halloumi burger, and it was perfect. My husband had the roast beef—a massive portion—but he didn’t struggle to finish it. The fish and chips was cooked perfectly too! The gin bar is a nice addition! Lovely meal and certainly can’t complain about the price!
Thought our meal was very nice, nice friendly landlord. Could do with baffling as wS quite noisy but I understand they are getting carpets. Really enjoyed our meal there and will definitely be going again. I
We had an excellent Sunday lunch here. We got a lovely warm welcome on arrival. There is a choice of eating in the bar area or in the restaurant. Both areas were nicely set up.
The roast beef was absolutely spot on and was served with a good variety of vegetables. The service was good and we thought the meal was very good value for money.
We look forward to returning soon.
We had a lovely welcome from Helen and Dan, and thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch. We plan to return again soon!
