Exceptional standards at this lovely restaurant. From the starters to desserts everything was delicious and well presented. In addition all the food is organic which was a pleasant surprise. We justed moved into the area and will certainly come often. I had roast chicken and veg with black garlic sauce - I could eat this every night! The atmosphere is so relaxing with classical music playing in the background and beautiful paintings- This is really a unique place. Congratulations Bistro Aix!
Had to send food back as it was overcooked. Steak and vegetables.
Excellent place; took the parents who were visiting from the north and it was lovely.
This is a traditional French restaurant. We went for the midweek set menu, which is available until 7pm. There was a good choice and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and the ambience was cosy on what was a chilly summer evening. We’d definitely go back.
Having read previous reviews, I was somewhat apprehensive about visiting this restaurant. I needn't have worried as our experience couldn't have been any better. Very pleasant staff, food was delicious and the atmosphere took me straight back to small Parisian bistros. I had rib eye steak with chips and bernaise sauce which was just perfect and added to the feel of Paris. Very slight negative were the uncomfortable, hard wooden chairs. This will not deter me from returning.
We have eaten previously at Bisto Aix and had a good evening. This was not the case on this occasion. From the moment we arrived to when we left I had the feeling that we were an unwelcome distraction for the waiting staff from their conversation in the back room. The waitress who took our order failed to listen properly and my husband was served chicken liver pate instead of the seared chicken livers that he asked for. The food was reasonably good but very overpriced for what you get. The rabbit came with a tiny bit of cabbage and some mustard sauce. I’d rather have paid another couple of pounds and been offered a complete dish with some carbohydrate.
But the service was disjointed and haphazard and left me feeling irritated. At the end of the meal I had to wave my arm at the waitress as no-one came over for a very long time. When she finally strolled over and said ‘what do you want’ I replied ‘the bill’. No-one said goodbye when we left because no-one cared. I was not rude or impatient at any time merely sad and disappointed. The restaurant was very empty for a Friday evening (not even half full) and when we walked back to our car past other restaurants which were full of people I realised that others had voted with their feet to avoid this restaurant.
We come here a few times a year with elderly friends, as it's their favourite restaurant in Crouch End. They have good taste! It's always enjoyable, and it's obviously caught on, because it was full, and people were being turned away. There was a pleasant chatty ambience, but not too noisy. But, I would recommend booking if you want to be sure of a table.
It's high end prices and although the food is reliably good (and always well presented), and the staff are lovely and friendly, it didn't feel it was quite the gourmet experience I've had there in the past. Overall it's a very pleasant experience, and we shall return.
I rated this meal as outstanding, which it was in terms of both cooking and service. It is a while since our last visit, for no real reason, but after this will be back much quicker. The food is not fancy, but is god materials beautifully cooked. I must put in special praise for the red wine jus that came with my calves liver and the salad dressing with my goats cheese & thyme soufflé- both very well judged.
A really good local french brassiere that’s very consistent.
I enjoyed courgette ribbons with Parmesan to start followed by lamb chops as a main. My wife had a salad & sea bass with some sides.
A 3/4 carafe of house red & a bottle of fizzy cane to £115 for two.
No room for dessert!
Not the cheapest meal but we always enjoy it.
Stepped into France for an evening meal. Wonderful
We went here for Mother’s Day and were disappointed for various reasons.
The only option available was a 3 course menu (with various options- including Sunday roast) for 39£ and a “menu” for kids for 15£, which consisted of a smallish portion of main course and 1 scoop of ice cream for desert (not sure why they call it menu- perhaps to justify 15£)
Both menus, the standard one for adults and the kids one were ridiculously overpriced! It felt very unfair to not have any other options available- and the worst bit, we weren’t made aware of the time of booking.
We don’t mind paying that amount for excellent food, but here we simply felt exploited as they clearly took advantage of “Mother’s Day” by only offering this special menu.. and mentioning Mother’s Day, there wasn’t anything else extra or special for the numerous mothers present (maybe a glass of Prosecco or at least a flower on the table or something..). The service was fairly friendly, but the kitchen clearly struggled to keep up with the canteen style demand they had- they even opened up a much less attractive back room to fit more people in ...
We are locals and are so put off by this experience that this was sadly our last visit to Aix .
mother s day - great meal with the fam!
We had a lovely celebratory evening at bistro aix and will definitely return for a special evening
Wanting to stay local, on the basis of a decent meal experience a couple of years ago, we chose Aix to entertain important guests. What a disappointing experience. Our table was in the back room which was accessed via a musty-smelling passage. There we were left to languish with the menus for over 15 minutes, at which time we were forced to demand service. This unenthusiastic level of service marginally improved throughout the evening but not the indifference. Unfortunately the quality of the food matched the service - there in name but not in quality. The menu is tired and, sadly, the food itself was too. Nothing about my fish soup and duck suggested beyond that it had been prepared many hours ago and re-warmed. The soup was gloopy and my duck was tough. My wife felt similarly of her choices. The accompaniments were of the sort and unpleasantness that one gets at a mass-catered event. At no time did anybody enquire as to our well-being or satisfaction. To potential dining guests I'd advise reading up-to-date reviews before considering Aix as a destination. My advice to Aix is that they need to take a good hard look at themselves or they will be reading many more reviews like this.
Never disappoints. Lovely food, great wine and good service. Will definitely go back again.
Bistro Aix is still romantic and ambient but the quality of the food is not unfortunately relevant with the price tag. The selection of wines by the glass could have been better for these prices.
This is a great restaurant to have nearby. They mix informality with good service, the food is reliably good, you can hear each other talk, and it's comfortable. We go regularly, and you only do that if you enjoy the experience!
Bistro Aix is a really good restaurant offering quality French food in Crouch End.
Always good quality and enjoyable service & it's a regular for my wife and I.
I had a fois gras followed by a delicious steak and dauphinoise potatoes.
My wife had the courgette strips which are fabulous followed by a seabass.
I enjoyed prunes soaked in Armagnac with ice cream for dessert.
Lovely NYE meal, will go back
Wonderful Christmas Eve meal. French food beautifully done and very friendly staff.
Food was very nice as was service. A lovely warm welcoming bistro.would recommend
Excellent as ever. Food wonderful, service very good & lovely atmoshere
Lovely local restaurant with a bistro feel. Well cooked fresh food and efficient service.
Would definitely recommend.
Every one at the table loved their food. Extensive menu. Not much non-meat choices, but the mushroom tart I was told was great. The wine was also rated as excellent.
I liked the ambience and the waiter did make some mocktails for us.
I’ve been meaning to try this restaurant since 2015 and I am sad I’ve waited so long! The food was faultless (we had the Sunday lunch followed by the amazing chocolate fondant) and the service was great. I would not hesitate to recommend and will return soon for more! It’s also a beautiful little French restaurant, it felt very Parisian
We went for Mother's Day and while the food for adults was good, the children's food was a rip-off - £15 for what was effectively fish-fingers and one scoop of ice cream. The service was typically surly but you sort of expect that with a French restaurant. I definitely wouldn't take the kids there again but it's good for couples.
We had a wonderful night on NYE at Bistro Aix. The scallops and oysters were delighted joys and out waiter helped pair with fantastic wines we wouldn't have picked ourselves. Great for couples and groups of four.
A birthday lunch. We were very well looked after. The food was great and wine recommendations excellent. A really enjoyable relaxing couple of hours
It were grand
We are so lucky to have a local restaurant as good as this. The staff are always very friendly, the atmosphere is calm without being stuffy, and the food is excellent. Have never had a bad meal here and would thoroughly recommend it.
The food was ok, the wine better. Very odd service, they didn't seem bothered that I didn't get my starter despite raising it a couple of times and just continued to serve the mains. The restaurant itself is a nice, chilled space and would in theory be good for a leisurely lunch. Was a bit disappointed by the cost of the meal, by way of example £3.50 for some additional roast potatoes seems excessive. The set meal felt budget (what we got of it).
Fantastic menu and really great food.
Lovely restaurant - it feels like the french restaurants of old, with excellent friendly service and very good food. Perfect for a date, it's also very handy for the Crouch end picture house!
Had a wonderful meal to celebrate a birthday. Staff were very attentive and food was very tasty, and well presented. Would recommend and would go back.
As always, wonderful food and service! Been going to Bistro Aix for many years and it's always lovely.
An excellent authentic French bistro, refreshingly different from the proliferation of chain restaurants in N London. The menu was manageable and catered for vegetarians as well.
A superb, varied selection of French wine, somewhat pricey though, but that should not detract from the overall experience.
We were there to celebrate a friend's 78tg birthday. It was simply excellent!
Like being in France for a meal out - lovely atmosphere and authentic menu.
We went to Bistro Aix for my boyfriend's birthday dinner.
I had the Duck Confit and my boyfriend had the Cheese and Leek Tarte.
Our daughter and our friend who came with us both had the Steak Frites.
We loved every minute. The ambiance, the food, the wine....it was perfect.
Hadn't been to BA for a few months, just as good as ever. Food was delicious, waiter brilliant, the confit duck leg the best I've had in ages. A quiet Tuesday evening in Crouch End, made for a lovely meal 'a deux' to celebrate a birthday, along with a bit of minor celeb-spotting! Great work, guys...
