We had a lovely experience on the patio for brunch! Our server offered a hand towel to sanitize our hands to begin the meal, which I thought was very kind. Food was wonderful! We will definitely be back...it may be our new favorite neighborhood spot!
The restuarant was wonderful. Service was great and attentive. Made super recommendations. Had Lamb chop and tenderloin cube. Delicious. Will definitely one back and recommend!
Beautiful setting, great service and the food was outstanding.
I ordered ahead foie gras, and they didn't have it. And the worst thing that I was not alert about this before sitting to a dinning room. I would change the restaurant if I would know before
Very nice place for a romantic dinner out! The food and service was excellent. The lamb in particular was wonderful. Lovely wine list. We sat downstairs, but after peeking upstairs I would requests to sit up there next time! It was a bit more intimate and away from the kitchen. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Amazing place, delicious food. It was really difficult to accommodate us, because 3 from our party are vegan. But they figure out with a delicious vegan meal and everybody was happy. Compliments to the chef! Definitely, we are coming back soon.
Outstanding!! The food and service have always been very consistent and the decor is very cozy and romantic!
The service was excellent. The food was great, fairly authentic. The wine list needs to be expanded.
I came here with a friend and we had a great time. I love that although the tables are pretty close together, it still feels like a private place. I never had to ask for anything from our server, he was excellent. We both enjoyed our meals (Salmon, and Eggs Norwegian), and will definitely return.
I work across the street from Bistro Cacao and have been going there over the past few years for lunch. I turned my employer onto Bistro and he has been going there consistently every since. I love french onion soup and Bistro Cacao makes the best I have ever had. It is one of the main items I always choose when eating there. I am a very picky eater and Bistro meets all my qualifications for good food.
I tell my friends about Bistro and they love the ambiance.
The re-modeling is on point.
My husband and I enjoyed a memorable anniversary. We were tucked away in an intimate table and it was everything I hoped for as part of a special moment for us. The food was excellent and the service was the best. Thank you for making this a extraordinary experience!
Perfect for a date night!
The food, service and ambience were all outstanding. We lived in Paris and Bistro Cacao comes as close to an authentic Paris dining experience as we've found in the U.S. This is probably the best French dining experience in the region.
The food was exquisite - well prepared and well proportioned. The waiter moved us to our preferred table when there was a cancellation
great experience. Cozy small house feel- with a french flair. Solid wine list, great beers on tap and a full bar. We were a party of 6, all the meals were delicious.
My Salade Cacao was very good, as was the wine selection by the glass. However, my main dish - Alaskan halibut with a potato pancake and zucchini - was not pleasing. The interior of the potato pancake was cold and the halibut wasn't hot either. I told the waiter about the potato pancake, and he said that they are pre-made and then just warmed up. He went to talk to the chef but by the time he returned with a new potato pancake, I had finished my dinner and the plate had been taken away. The halibut was OK but the exterior had been over-cooked so it was chewy and yet it was luke-warm inside.
As always, Bistro Cacao provided the perfect setting & food to celebrate a special occasion.
Bistro Cacao was great. The atmosphere was amazing (especially for Valentine's Day date night) and the food was incredible. It was not noisy at all and I can't say enough about the ambiance. Great service as well.
The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance very romantic. But what topped it all was our waiter, so funny, so bubbly, he really was the star!!!
Went for dinner to celebrate Valentines Day. We were seated upstairs in a curtained enclosed table where the restaurant is very intimate and romantic. The ambiance and atmosphere was very good, the noise level was low and the service was pleasant and attentive. In addition to drinks, salads and appetizers, we both ordered the 14 ounce T-bone steak which was one of the specials that evening. This was the only negative regarding our experience. The steak was very low in quality and mediocre at best. The steak was $40 (the special price) but tasted more like the $7.95 steak special at a neighborhood diner. But overall, the restaurant is very nice, especially for a romantic occasion. Just stick with the French cuisine and stay clear of the steak.
Wonderful ambience in this restaurant. Perfect romantic atmosphere for a Valentines day dinner. Very pricey as expected for a french restaurant. But admittedly I don’t feel like the food was exceptional. Flavor was indeed lacking in the stuffed tomato and my duck. I would not expect your taste buds to be intrigued. I would definitely recommend for a romantic evening out with someone you are trying to impress.
The ambiance is great, outstanding service great communication from entire staff. It is cozy and yet private and both my husband and I really enjoyed it. Appetizers were excellent but the grilled shrimp and ravioli was very good but not excellent - not sure what was missing.
Overall a great dinner , s little in the privy side !
The food was ok but the portions were ridiculously small. We left hungry despite paying $240. The service was good, as was the ambiance. While the food was good, it was certainly not the best I have had in DC. The vegetarian entree was more like an appetizer yet it cost $25. We were only offered one piece of bread, and the butter was under-salted. The duck was ok but also a small portion and it was by no means a tour de force. The wine recommendation by the waiter was excellent and our service was great. The dessert was my favorite dish there.
Had dinner before a show at Folger Library (very walkable). First visit after the remodeling. Place is gorgeous! Quiet table for two on the bar side. Felt intimate and quiet even though the place was busy. Let Anthony our server know we had time and hoped for a leisurely meal. He timed everything perfectly with nice spacing between courses. Food was excellent. Expresso martini paired quite nicely with apple tart and chocolate cake desserts. We will be back for sure!
Some of the best food and service I have received. Been multiple times and nothing I’ve had on the menu is short of 5 star quality. Service is top class and I am excited every time I book a reservation to return
Valentines was a disappointment. The Kale salad was average (great toasted pips though), the mushrooms were mostly tasteless and devoid of seasoning g, and the inclusion of the meaty, chewy, tough mushroom stem was not helpful. and my filet was burned. The meat was charred to the point of being bitter and bad tasting, like cinder. And the creme broulee OK, but tiny. Because we were on a double date, I didn’t feel comfortable asking for a manager. And it was $180/head after wine and tip.
We've always loved dinner at Bistro Cacao, especially for special occasions. Valentine's Day did not disappoint.
The food was very good, as always, with the exception of the crab bisque, which had very little crab meat and no sherry. The set menu had a wide variety of choices. With the choice of wild mushrooms; octopus with a quinoa salad; and something I can't remember for the second course, I was less than impressed. There was nothing I found appetizing, so I ordered something so my husband could have 2.
Entree selection was great and we both decided to go with the server's recommendation of filet mignon (we wondered if it was tender). The filet did not diappoint. In fact, it's the most tender filet mignon I've ever had. Warm chocolate molten cake was fabulous. I could have done without the caramel sauce.
This is the first time we've eaten in the new location. The first floor decor is lovely. The bar, which seats 10, is great. We sat there for 20+ minutes, as a booth wasn't ready when we arrived at our reservation time. The bartender was fantastic, doing a yeoman's job -- solo with a full bar and every table seated. She's amazing. And funny!
The second floor, which offers more dining tables than the old restaurant, is reminiscent of the previous location. If I were asked if anything should be changed upstairs, I'd recommend darkening the floors. The dining room seems too bright, too light and thus, doesn't feel nearly as romantic as the old Bistro Cacao.
I still love Bistro Cacao. We'll definitely go back.
Food was below its usual excellent standard. Perhaps it was the crush of the Valentine’s Day crowd- but my duck was just ok; and my friend commented that his fish wasn’t particularly fresh. The kale salads was also just ok; a bit tough as fresh kale can be- but also not cut or chopped finely enough so it was a bit difficult to eat. Service and ambiance were great as usual- though I thought the music being played was a bit loud.
Excellent new location. We look forward to using the new bar in the future.
Great place, liked their previous location ambiance better, food was delicious and tasty but it was served cold. They had a Set menu for Valentine’s Day.
One of my go-to places. Wonderful atmosphere, and food is always enjoyable. This past visit service was a little distracted (night before Valentine’s Day), but within acceptable range. I’ll be back.
First time in the expanded space. Lovely! Food as good as ever. Going back for a birthday celebration in March!
Elegant, intimate French restaurant with the look, smell and class of a Parisian bistro. Warm atmosphere, excellent service. The French Onion Soup equaled the best I've had anywhere, including all over France...and French Onion Soup is my all-time favorite food. The Trout appetizer was unique, well-presented and delicious. We had the Hangar Steak and the Calamari...again each was inventively prepared and superb. We will be back soon.
The staff was very attentive to our needs. It was one the nicest dining experience to have on a Sunday morning.
We had an unbelievable experience. They really rolled out the red carpet for my wife's birthday and every bite of every dish was to die for. Will definitely be back.
Very nice, intimate setting for a date. The server was very professional, courteous, and timely.
Bistro Cacao is one of our favorites! The service is always excellent and the food is always delish!!
Always delicious !! The new location is charming and warm. One of our favorites !!
New venue next to the old one provides more space and a full bar. Food is still great. I am never disappointed with the quality of the food or the service.
Another wonderful experience at Bistro Cacao! Wonderful ambience and truly exceptional service throughout the evening with every staff member we encountered. Most importantly---the appetizers and entrees were flawlessly prepared---tasty and succulent. We look forward to our next return!
