We made our reservation, and showed up to find out that the restaurant was closed. Not a good first impression.
I’ve had better New Orleans style food but this place wasn’t terrible. Would I return? Maybe not.
Such a good neighborhood find. Extremely delicious and affordable
The decor had a nice New Orleans flair. The server was very personable as was the owner. The food was very fresh and very tasty The fried okra was delicious and not greasy at all. We also had the snapper and salmon, again very good. Dessert - beignets!
The don't serve alcohol, but had a variety of interesting non-alcoholic drinks.
The food is VERY good! Freshly made and absolutely yummy. Our waitress was very attentive without hovering too much. The owner even came to check on us.
After a long day, arriving at Biyou was heaven. The manager Bruce (?), was pleasant and attentive to our needs. We started with fried okra and biscuits served with a honey butter. The okra was fresh and lightly battered with a delicious dipping sauce. Our main entrees were pleasurable: Bourbon Street Chicken served with Potato Gratin, a Spicy Cajun Sauce and Asparagus my friend had the Blackened Catfish Steak served with Creamy Spaghetti Squash, Peppers & Onions. Biyou does not serve a alcoholic beverages, the drink selections are blends of fruits and vegetables, teas and botanicals that were refreshing. Would I come back yes!
Food was amazing! Some of the best Shrimp & Grits I've ever had in my life and I grew up in New Orleans. Only thing was they don't serve alcohol and it's not BYOB, which is fine but we didn't know beforehand. Definitely go eat here!
The food was terrible
- grits were extremely over cooked and coagulated
- shrimp with the grits was over cooked as well
- the cornbread was dry
- the jam had way too many seeds and should have been filtered
- the sauce for the shrimp omelette was bland
The service was bad
- the waitress didn’t check up on us
- didn’t refill our water
- took forever to get their attention
- told them about the shrimp and grits and they took it away but still tried to charge us for it
My boyfriend and I had been waiting to go here for a couple months now and we’re excited to try the menu. This was his surprise birthday brunch and he didn’t even get to it. Would not recommend this or return here. I’m very disappointed in the entire experience.
Great place for a first date , quiet outing with your significant other or just a few people. This is your place. Cozy and nicely lit. They hit it on the nail with the “ New Orleans theme”. Although it took a while for our food to come when it wasn’t even crowded maybe just 6 other patrons. The food was delicious. Even with the waitress speaking softly she was polite. Definitely I would recommend this establishment.
The food is amazing, taste authentic, great size portions and absolutely delicious.
The service was great. Bruce was truly hospitable. I went for my birthday and it was a perfect evening with my family. I will certainly be going back, often.
My second time there. Everything was amazing. I highly recommend this place. We were celebrating the life of New Orleans legend Dr. John, this was the right place at the right time. 💜
The one downside is that the food took forever, i was starving when I arrived so the wait didn't help - but the food though... AMAZING! everything seasoned to perfection, moist chicken, excellent flavors, it made me understand why it took so long! Also no alcohol is a bit of a downer lol but overall I would go back!
They didn't have our OpenTable reservation and were serving a pre-fixe menu. We were told that the wait would be about 40 minutes to an hour. It was mother's day so our options to go elsewhere were non-existent. We were given the option of using the pre-fixe menu or their regular dinner menu. I appreciate that the owner recognized that we may not have been prepared to spend $60 on their pre-fixe menu and gave us the option between the two.
The food was amazing. No one in our party of 7 complained about the taste or quality of the food. As I write this review I am thinking about just how tasty my meal was but the experience wasn't fully enjoyed. Partly because of the group of people I was with but mainly because of the timing of the service.
After waiting the hour to be seated we then waited for over an hour and a half for the appetizer which came out in waves as opposed to all together or close in timing. We waited for a long time just to be served water. Then waited again for out entrees. I noted that a family that had a reservation for their pre-fixe were seated after us and left way before us.
I'm want to believe that the reservation is what caused the issue but I think the kitchen may not be large enough to churn out the meals at a fast enough pace. They appear to make everything to order and nothing is just sitting around waiting under a heat lamp. This in and of itself makes me say this place is worth it.
I plan to go again but this time I will be prepare myself in advance for the wait and probably visit on a day that is less popular.
I mentioned earlier that the food was amazing. It really was a great meal and I can't wait to go back.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, beautiful decor, and friendly staff. I highly recommend this place.
We (4) chose the restaurant because it was nearby People’s Institutional AME church located at 628 Madison Avenue,Brooklyn , NY. After a wonderful worship service we walked Bro the restaurant. The place was well lit and very inviting. The ambiance was wonderful! The wait staff need some training but they were pleasant. We had a reservation, but no one asked her if we had one or not. We were seated right away that was about 12:30PM. The food was very tasty, but the brunch portions were very skimpy. Not what we expected, since this place use to be called Bert’s a soul food catering, take out and eat in place prior( I recalled this later) .
I will return for dinner to see if the dinner menu is tasty and more plentiful. Sorry I don’t take pictures of my food for Instagram and this. Trust me the presentation was decent. The Biyou Classic was served in a oversized dish a .5 cup of grits with cheese , one chicken sausage split down the middle , 1 egg. And a homemade biscuit. Wish me luck with the Dinner menu
Excellent flavors in a quaint setting. They do not serve alcohol but the drinks are delicious.
Service seem slower than standards considering the restaurant only had two other (small 2-3person) parties aside from ours. It felt like there was a rush to take our order only to find out some items weren’t available, ie biscuits, sausage… in a Cajun restaurant on a Sunday. It took over 30 minutes to have drinks brought to our table, and the cornbread replacement for the missing biscuits were never brought out. For this, they did remove the cost of the bread basket from our bill and that was appreciated.
I want to like this restaurant, support the neighborhood but something was a miss. I overheard other parties having issues too, not sure if it’s the front end service, kitchen or a miscommunication between both.
Otherwise, the food had great flavor, portions seemed appropriate and the staff was friendly.
Undecided as to whether I’d return.
Hidden gem! It was empty for brunch to my surprise, must be because of the location which is kind of random I guess, but the food was to die for and the drinks were some of the best beverages I’ve ever had—I didn’t even mind they had no alcohol. Everyone needs to try this place if you like upscale southern food!
Made a reservation for 12:00 but when we got there the place was still closed? Walked around the block for a few minutes and came back.. still closed! Didn’t get to experience what looked like a great time.
Well a friend recommended this Cajun soul spot when he stumbled upon it on his way to a meeting. He raved about it enough for me to come check it out for myself. It's a Friday night around the 6pm hour. My server Cindy welcomed me with a beautiful smile and said have a seat anywhere you like. This was perfect, not crowded yet. As I looked over the menu, I couldn't decide what I wanted because everything sounded good. The beverages even more enticing especially the names of it and the ingredients in it. I didn't order a beverage this trip. I did ordered the Fried okra with tomato red pepper aioli pimento and a kale salad with candied walnuts, goat cheese, blueberries with a strawberry lime vinaigrette. Let's just say I enjoyed every morsel. There was some jazz music playing in the background. Making it a wonderful dining experience. Definitely a great spot to bring a date or celebrate any occasion. Can't wait to venture back with some friends.
The chef was late by about 2 hours. Restaurant opened at 11 but he didn't come til after 12:30. Then the food took forever to arrive. However, the shrimp and grits was delicious. Just don't expect the best service.
The staff at Biyou was so attentive on the Sunday afternoon that a friend and I visited after church. Our waitress gave us ample time to go over the menu but stayed close and checked back often after we got our food. I told her of my dietary restrictions and she was careful to ask the kitchen to avoid anything that I can eat. This is one of those BK gems that I want to keep to myself but also want to share with everyone so they get all of the business. Definitely want to come back for dinner!
This place is gorgeous, the service is great, the food is delicious, and the signature drinks are amazing. True New Orleans feel inside from the perfectly balanced music to the decor which includes fresh flowers at every table. We had complimentary "bimomas" with our brunch which was a nice touch. Will definitely visit again.
We like to patronize our neighborhood restaurants and this was a good choice. Our food was tasty and we enjoyed everything we ordered.
My daughter’s food never came, that was the only downside. Everything else was great!
We will visit again.
We had a party of 8 and was impressed by everything we ordered. Especially the Pickled Jalapeno Fried Chicken and the chicken wings. The gumbo is top notch too. The food presentation was outstanding. This is a hidden gem in Brooklyn.
