BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse - Columbia
Great selection of healthy and delicious food and terrific service!
Even though we had a reservation, waited 25 minutes with everyone else who walked in.
We enjoyed our dinner at BJ’s. We had the Prime rib dip and the prime rib was very tender. The au jus sauce was very salty though. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs and he said the sauce was too sweet for him. My grandson got the ribs and they were chewy. I will be back because I love their ham and cheese grilled sandwich on the parmigiana crusted bread which is my favorite. I just want to try something different.
Not all BJ Restaurants are the same. I have been to 2 or 3 others and had a great experience. I have tried this one in Columbia twice for dinner in the past 8 weeks. In both cases, the service was awful. Food was not served to the entire party at one time. Most recently, we were a party of 5 and instead of serving from both sides of the table, the server continually reached across or forced us to pass food and drinks across 2 others to get to the opposite side. You couldn't hear her to place your order so instead of walking around to the others side of the table, the server responded with an apology that her voice was soft, meaning "not her problem". I ordered a chicken entree dish and the piece of pre-sliced chicken was smaller than you would expect on top of a salad, much less a main entree. Bad service and poor controls of food leaving the kitchen is indicative of poor management. DON'T SAY YOU HAVEN'T BEEN WARNED!!
The food at BJ's is always good. I think that is why I keep coming back. BUT the service either hit or miss. During this visit, I decided to make our reservation through OpenTable. When I arrived with our group of 6, I checked in at the hostess stand and was told we had to wait 2 hours for a table! Even with a reservation. The hostesses were very rude. We left and went to another restaurant instead. Then came back when our reservation was called 45 minutes later. They set us down at a very small booth when I had requested a table on our reservation.
Thirty minutes after our initial 45 minutes, we were seated at a table. But they had two larger parties and sandwiched us in between them. They moved those tables so close to use, we couldn't get out of our seats for the entire meal and our server (who was great, but overly busy) could barely get through with our food and drinks.
I love their food but I'll never go back on a weekend again.
We have attempted to go to BJs several times (10) and i can state that sadly we have only received a combination of good food and good service one time.
Today, my sons birthday, the food was beyond bland the tortilla soup was over salted and my medium rare steak had to be sent back because it came out alone before all of the other entrees. None of this was the servers fault. The table was never bussed before the food came out we had to stack the plates ourselves the server was slow coming to check on us after the food was dropped and they didn’t celebrate my sons 12th birthday at all I was told by the server ‘we aren’t allowed to do that here’ and my reply was ‘anymore??’ He flat out lied and said yes. That IS the servers fault. I spoke to a female manager and her reply regarding the steak coming out early was pointless and the server just shrugged his shoulders and said i don’t know what happened. And walked away. After this experience my son finally understands why I don’t like eating here so we won’t be back. Spending over $200 for dinner is fine spending it with lack luster service and bad food should not be a thing. Beyond disappointing.
Had a reservation that was made a week ahead at 3
2:30pm, wasn’t seated until after 3pm. What’s the point of a reservation?
Great time for my mom's bday! Would recommend , just make sure you.make a reservation it's pretty busy.
We made a 6:30 reservation and didn't get seated until 7:10.
The food here never disappoints. The menu is expansive. I really appreciated that when I called to let BJs know that we were running late it was not an issue. When we arrived later than planned...it was not an issue and when half of our party was not there because they were traveling from Gaithersburg and got stuck in traffic, they still seated us. This will be our family "lets go out and celebrate" something spot!!!
In general it was a great time. We like BJ's.
Tonight, despite a request in Open Table AND a verbal request when we arrived for a table "off to the side" and "not in the center", we were placed at a table, not a booth. In the center section. That table was next to the servers ramp and the restrooms, right in the main traffic flow of the restaurant. We got it straightened out eventually, but not without feeling like we were significantly inconveniencing the staff.
After that, the meal was very pleasant.
Typical sports bar fare with perhaps a few more options than most places. Food can be hit or miss between locations, but our Columbia visit left everyone pleased.
The servers at BJ's are always so friendly and helpful AND patient. The menu has a variety of choices, many with a unique and tasty treat. I had the clam chowder soup bowl, where the restaurant even buttered and toasted the cap taken off to pour in the soup. With it a had a delicious Calabrese side salad--each ingredient was fresh and flavorful. So glad I've discovered this wonderfully atypical brewhouse.
Food took longer than normal.
We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time then when we were seated, no one even acknowledged us for another 30 minutes. When we asked for a server we were told that the hostess would let someone know. She had an attitude and never did tell anyone. After receiving a waitress she never came back to check on us. The restaurant wasn't super busy either. We watched other families leave because they had been waiting so long as well as ask why no one acknowledged them for long periods of time. If I could give 0 stars I would. We were there for almost 3 hours and were only spoken to maybe three times. Unless you want to be disrespected and have 3 hours to waste, don’t go here for not so great food.
The server provided lackluster service, however the food was delicious.
The Hostess had trouble finding my reservation so we had to wait, and then large parties that came after us were seated. We waited a long time and the food was cold. Tevin took excellent care of us despite the wait.
Fun place, great staff. Very busy!
We have been a couple of times. Two disappointing factors for our last visit. We had a reservation, and were told to wait while the table was prepared. We waited, and after being called, had to wait while the young lady that was seating us finished a personal conversation with a co-worker. I finally interrupted to ask if our table was ready or not. Then young lady seating us did not bring napkins or utensils. So when our food came, we had no napkin or utensil. So we had to ask and wait and finally picked some up from another table that was set in advance. (And this happened the other time we were there as well). On a positive note, I have dietary restrictions, and have found their gluten free pizza to have the best crust I have had in a local restaurant, and they have several good (and healthy) options on the menu.
Can’t go wrong here. If you like Cheesecake Factory this is similar, maybe better in some ways. Much more ipscale sports bar focused
I thought making reservations in Opentable would eliminate a long wait for a table for my family. As it turns out we were Five minutes early for our seating, yet still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Ridiculous! Whatever “system” BJ’s implements for seating and reservations needs to be revamped. Too many other restaurants in the area to put up with poor service.
We love BJ's! During peak times (Fri & Sat 5:30-7:30) even with Open Table you will end up waiting 15-20 minutes, but the food is great, drinks and beer selection are great and we always have good service. Prices are reasonable. And you MUST try their pizzas and Pizookies!
We went on Sat night. Were seated 25 min late even though we had a reservation. Hostesses and waiter were rude. Brought wrong food for one order twice, so we just kept it the 2nd time. Never apologized or even offered a friendly word. Won't be back.
Had reservations, but still had to wait 10 minutes to get seated. Then another 10 minutes to have a waiter arrive. (We had theatre tickets and had allotted enough time given service in the past.) We told our waiter and he assured us he would get us out in time. Once order was placed, food did arrive in timely manner.
Menu is extensive and the food was good - nicely flavored and temperature was correct. Not the “warmest” staff -not sure if it’s due to lack of training, experience or they just don’t like their jobs.
We will probably return and hope the staff gets better training.
That’s it had no experience. Celebrated 2 birthdays, mentioned it via reservation and in person not even an acknowledgement from any of the staff. Is not about the free deserts is about feeling well come. Overall less than average.
Decent food and drinks. Good service and great company!
We’ve been several times to this location. Basic chain restaurant food. They were very busy (as always) but the server was still pleasant and helpful. One dish had the side sauce spilled on it and had to go back. The other dish was luke warm.
Extensive menu with a wide variety of choices including some interesting more healthy entree choices. Beer selections included their own brews as well as domestic and imported brands- I had the BJ Octoberfest beer and it was very good - I would try a beer flight next time. Comfortable seating, not jammed in, service was very good the only negative was that the noise level was on the high side, but it was a friday night, so to be expected. Overall the food and service was very good, we will return.
Had the tomato soup....too dense, like it was left on the stove all day. Same with the sauce for the roll appetizer, dense. The balsamic salad was great, but the portion was small
Good as always was delicious and the service was great. The nachos are so big and delicious but literally have 8 pieces of chicken on it. This happens every time and is so annoying as they are not cheap! Absolutely my favorite place to eat just don’t be so cheap with the poultry for nachos
Terrible experience - sat 20mins after our reservation - another 20mins until someone even took drinks orders - then gets worse - wrong drink order - spilled beer all over my dinner and me and server refused to help.
I would characterize this restaurant as an owner that really wants to try but recruits a team of staff that at best doesn’t care and at worst is actively destroying their business.
Lentil soup was best I ever had, and I have had it a lot at various restaurants in the area. Everything was delicious and our waiter was polite and attentive! Nice experience👍
Some negatives my plate of food was not as hot as it could have been - probably because it was done before the other meals in the group. Not a great selection of non-alcohlic beers since there was only one. No offer to refill the coffees. Otherwise the food was tasty - main course and dessert. Worth another try.
Daughters birthday. Long wait to be seated despite reservation, rudeness by check in people, long wait for food almost 1 hour, over salted fries etc
Food took an extreme long time to come out. We had a 6pm reservation and left at 845. Server was super attentive and friendly
Good thing we had reservations since it was busy on a Tuesday. Our 2 year old at the table loved the fruit and bread treat given at the beginning; as well the crayons and coloring menu. Recommend: potato skins; pot sticker; all the entree salads; Philly cheese steak; turkey french dip and shrimp off the children's menu. Plentiful food and tasty. We will return.
Overall, I enjoyed my first trip to this restaurant. There is a lot to choose from. I really wanted to try the avocado rolls but I I read several bad reviews. We ordered the loaded nachos which was huge! It really was enough for 4 or more people. Our meals (rib eye and Parmesan chicken) were good and so was the dessert. It is really noisy in there so it’s not a place to go on a “date”
Very nice experience. Waitress forgot our military discount but it was a busy night.
My husband brought me here for lunch one Saturday, and I loved it! The food and service was excellent! I have since returned twice with co-workers. I've only had the deep dish ziti because it is just that good. I totally recommend this restaurant.
