Black & Blue - Waterloo
We believe that to produce the best food, you should work with all your suppliers on a close and personal basis. We acquired our own butchers, Jefferies in Kingston, so that we could control our meat all the way from the abattoir to the table. This helps ensure that our steaks and handmade burgers are of the highest quality.
In 1999, the boys decided that they wanted to bring a high-street, high-quality steak concept to London, Black & Blue and the first modern American steakhouse in the capital, was born.
Great juicy steak
Stakes were not cooked as asked for and thought it was expensive for just a plate of a steak and chips
The meals were good, the service friendly and very efficient, and it is very convenient for travelling from Waterloo
We had a lunchtime meal and the restaurant was quiet. Friendly service. The steaks were, in my opinion, not great quality - quite stringy and not as good as I have had elsewhere including other Black and Blue venues.
I ordered a steak which was cooked as described (medium rare) and it was delicious, however, the steak is quite expensive. The service was not that good but the restaurant was very busy and I think the staff had a lot of customers to deal with! Mainly we had to call someone to place our orders rather than someone coming to the table after giving us some time to look at the menu. Location was great because we were all catching trains home from waterloo station.
Good food friendly staff
Visited early evening on Saturday, overall it was great.
Great quality steak, for the price (I had the set menu).
I would definitely come again when in the Waterloo area.
Staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere and good value for money, especially for a place in central London. Food was as described on the menu.
Black & Blue had an ‘upbeat vibe’ and was very lively! I had a great goat cheese, bacon, avocado salad. In fact, we went there twice and I ordered the same thing. The tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce were so fresh they tasted like they just came out of our garden! I would definitely recommend this place!
Had dinner here with a friend before having to catch a train. We were able to get the two course set menu before 7pm which was good value. I feel the food was good for what we paid but would have felt slightly ripped off if I had to pay the regular price. Most staff were friendly although I didn't think it was worth the service fee. Overall nice but average.
Great music and at a good volume level, not too loud. Food was good and service was excellent.
We really enjoyed it here. The chicken with mushroom sauce was great and I loved the salad with bacon and goat cheese! The service was fast and the ambiance was perfect for a fun evening out. We’re going to go there again before we leave London.
Excellent food but in particular excellent service. The waiting staff were very attentive and very helpful to my elderly grandmother. They also all came out to sing her happy birthday and brought her a cake! Great experience with fantastic food, highly recommend.
Starters very nice chicking wings and crispy prawns, light and tasty
Ribs, fries and salad all good
Chocolate fondant delicious
Staff efficient and polite
Little expensive for what it was
Steak was cooked perfectly to order. Enjoyed it a lot.
The location and food was very good but the service very poor. At one point we had to beg for our bill whilst a member of staff was holding hands with a colleague????
This is the first time we visited this restaurant. We are a family if 4. We ordered chicken skewers for starters and steak with trimmings for our main meal. The chicken skewers were served raw and my son ate half of them. We called the waitress and manager over they were very concerned and apologised directing us to call NHS111. They have followed up with us. The food is high restaurant prices with frozen food. I would not recommend this.
I’ve had some dodgy meals here but this time it was great. Service as always a little sloppy
Myself and my friends meet here every year. Staff are polite and friendly and don’t rush us, they leave us to take as much time as we like. The food is good, nothing extraordinary, burgers and steaks but tasty and good value.
Really enjoyed the food and the staff were very welcoming. There was a delay in getting the bill but overall a really nice dining experience. Would definitely visit again!
Amazing food, nice atmosphere, staff are all lovely
Excellent food and excellent service
We had all group Stomach and dysentery problems!
Service was super fast, a little too fast for a relaxed breakfast. We ordered 2 smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which came with toast. The scrambled eggs was very over cooked and rubbery and the toast was white. We were not asked what toast we wanted so assumed that was all that was on offer until we noticed the table next to us had brown so we had ours changed. The smoked salmon was lovely though. We also had 2 bloody Mary’s which were nice but heavily iced so not sure how much was really in the glass. We had no tea or coffee but our bill was £42 which was hugely expensive. The bloody Mary’s turned out to be £10 each which quite frankly is daylight robbery!
The entire evening was an absolute pleasure. Outstanding service, food and very well priced. I have now been here with a number of different people and every time there has never been a single complaint. Fantastic place!
Situated extremely conveniently opposite the main entrance to Waterloo station, this is one of my favourite steak restaurants.
Very friendly service with excellent cuisine, which is not only limited to steak.
all the things not bad, all the things not bad, all the things not bad, all the things not bad, all the things not bad,
Excellent fillet steak
Lovely cocktails, bit pricey
Had to order two rounds of drinks at a time as our waitress was nowhere to be seen, steak was OK, the side salad was lettuce drenched in Caesar dressing, inedible. Cocktails were good. Manager surprised that we asked for the service charge to be removed. I think that the service isn’t good enough for service charges added to a table of two people! Felt like we were in a beefeater not a steakhouse in waterloo.
Great location just outside the main entrance to Waterloo Rail Station. Excellent steaks served by friendly and efficient staff.
Very welcoming staff, quick service, over all a very good meal
The only advise I would give is that you need to sharpen your steak knives. Really tough to cut through my steak but it was cooked to perfection.
Die Küche hatte schon um 21.30 Uhr geschlossen.
Liegt direkt an der Straße.
I went to the Borough Market branch a couple of years back and it was good. This was very mediocre. Steaks were a bit tough. Cooked OK, but really nothing special. House salad, which comes with steaks, is covered in walnuts, which is weird and we got a surly reception when we asked for one without nuts. EVERY pudding was listed as ‘traces’ and the waiting staff were not sufficiently confident that that would not cause an issue for my daughters allergy, meaning she couldn’t have a dessert. Waiting was hit and miss. Way too expensive for the quality. Will not return.
We had the fixed price lunch menu and the steak frites was great! The drinks were a bit pricey which I guess is usual for the area but convenient location for Waterloo.
I was completely put off by the state of the toilets - so dirty, unpleasant and unhygienic. I won't be visiting this restaurant again. I know we visited at 7.30pm on a Saturday, but there was no excuse for the litter and the overflowing sanitary unit - I doubt a member of staff had been in to check since the morning.
Horrible service, there was 4 wait staff hanging around the front till chatting took more than 10mins to get there attention to order. Food wasn't great, we got the house burger but the meat was dry and there was little on the burger that cost £13, more if you wanted to add cheese and bacon.
I had a burger which was very messy, tasteless & I think maybe they should just consider making it with one patty. My partner had ribs, portion was a good amount, meat was taste and very tender. I felt like the service staff didn’t listen were more attentive to other tables.
We were so well treated during our visit. It was my mum’s birthday and they did all the could to make our evening enjoyable. They even took a carafe of wine off the bill!
Nice and reliable! You can't really go wrong with the food here. Lunch time during the week lacks a bit of ambience as it's quieter, but that's to be expected I suppose. Having said that, since the place wasn't busy, the service was still slow and catching someone's eye to get served was a challenge at some points.
