Black & Blue - Waterloo
We believe that to produce the best food, you should work with all your suppliers on a close and personal basis. We acquired our own butchers, Jefferies in Kingston, so that we could control our meat all the way from the abattoir to the table. This helps ensure that our steaks and handmade burgers are of the highest quality.
In 1999, the boys decided that they wanted to bring a high-street, high-quality steak concept to London, Black & Blue and the first modern American steakhouse in the capital, was born.
Excellent as usual!!!
The food was great! Everything came out in a timely manner but our table of 5 and a baby was not serviced enough. Water was not refilled, requests for napkins and condiments had to be repeated. The table was cleared before we saw the bill and our waitress was standing in the front chatting and laughing with the hosts. I would still come back because of the history of the place, the ambiance and amazing food!
Booked a table here before going to a concert at the O2. Really convenient being right outside Waterloo station so we could just jump on the tube afterwards. Staff were really friendly and the steak frites were great. Lunch menu served until 7pm was excellent value. Will definitely be coming back!
I travelled from Southampton by train with daughters in-laws and grand daughters to see the Lion King. What a fantastic show! After the matinee we made our way to Black and Blue Waterloo. We all enjoyed our meal , wine and prosecco. The staff were very attentive without being over the top! We will definitely be eating at Black and Blue Waterloo the next time we are visiting London. Thank you for ending our day on a high!
It was listed as dining near the Olivier so the others we tried were booked. Besides being smack dab in front if Waterloo station the place was a long walk to the theatre. The food was ok. Frozen breaded shrimps dry and chewy.
Very good food as always but very let down by poor staff. Inattentive, forgetting orders and being chased out the door to pay the bill when the cash was on the table. Disappointing.
Overall it was great. My friend loved his chocolate fondant. I truly loved those baby back ribs - gorgeous. Will go again.
Food was good. However service was lacking as we were sat down for at least 10 minutes before somebody took our drinks order. We then also waited over an hour for food despite it not being particularly busy. We were offered free drinks for this but then also had to ask for the service charge to be removed from the bill.
Food not good enough for the price. Steak dry, burger dry, salad soaked in dressing
Lovely food and attentive service.
Just right and very close to the station.
We booked Black and Blue very last minute due to a cancelled table elsewhere, I remember seeing the restaurant when we arrived on the train. I have to say the whole experience was very good. The staff were really friendly, the food was delicious, especially my Pave rump steak, really good value. We were really pleased the other restaurant cancelled us! Would recommend this restaurant and hope to visit again.
Amazing desert chocolate fondue
Great all round
Honestly awful service. We were even stopped as we left to 100% confirm we had paid?! So so rude and below average food. No bette than fast food quality
The wonderful staff at thi srestairant look after us and my elderly parents time after time, with care, consideration and wonderful food. We'll keep coming back for sure!
Relaxed feel and very friendly staff, loved the live band playing in the corner. Food was amazing, in particular the butterfly prawns, and well priced for the portion size. The wine was reasonably priced and enjoyable as were the signature cocktails. I would recommend all my friends to eat here and would definitely return to try more of the menu.
Music far too loud and you had to shout to talk to one another. This should be much lower as as a deaf person I really struggled to hear anyone talking to me. Food was great tho
Great service ,nice lively vibe for a small group lunch and excellent steaks
Such a great place to eat as a couple. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was just right.
A little gem of a restaurant, everything fab there, lovely having some live music, had the fillet steak and cooked to perfection
As a small chain I expected much more (having been to London Bridge branch). For s mid range steak restaurant the quality of food was poor. My partner had the Flat Iron steak and sent it back due to being tasteless. I had rib eye, it was oK but have had better pub steaks.
Service wise we were left alone for most of the night. Tables around us seated later were served before. Even after complaining it took 15/20 minutes for desert menus.
For a restaurant in a prime location (opposite Waterloo station) that must attract business people on their way hike I really think this branch needs to up its game. Will visit this chain again but not this branch. Food and service was well below what you would expect to be paying £40 a head for.
Staff did refund price of flat iron, which was very kind
Team dinner for 10, great food and service.
Convenient for Waterloo station
Great to catch up with a friend. Very friendly staff, food decently nice. Overall nice experience.
We had such a wonderful time! The food was just delicious and the service was fast and amazing!
Average food - service for drinks very slow despite restaurant being half empty. Only booked as near Waterloo station otherwise better restaurants around.
the food was very basic, my steak wasn't cooked as I asked so not a good start!
Good value .Pleasant staff. ideal position for travelling from Waterloo
Excellent food and very friendly service. Great location just outside Waterloo Station.
Very good food, excellent service- will go again soon.
Food was amazing. Steak nicely cooked as requested (rare) and was amazing. Starters really tasty as well.
Over cooked steak that arrived Luke warm. Not impressed!
I’ve been here a few times and I’ve never been disappointed lovely food friendly staff and great cocktails :)
I love this franchise but the Waterloo branch disappointed me. Perhaps they were short staffed but the service was really applalling. We had to ask for the desert menus and wait 20 minutes before we could get someone’s attention to get the bill and even that was a mission. Uusally the waiter/waitress would come over and ask “how is your food? Is there anything I can get you? There was none of that. I chose the flat iron steak for mains which was good, not much taste but the deserts were lovely. I’m not put off going to Black&Blue but I won’t be in a rush to go to Waterloo.
Good venue, had live music on as was Saturday night. Food was very good and the prices were reasonable for London. Did not take long to be served and they were all attentive. Doorman seems a nice fella, friendly chap. Will be back.
Good overall. Food came out quickly and staff were attentive and helpful. Portions were not massive and London prices were ok. I would visit again.
Good meal however my partner got the steak which was very fatty. Pricer than other steak places we've been too but still worth a visit
A go to place for a casual night-out or meal before a train journey. I came here last Friday for a casual meal and boy was it good. The food came in a good time, and was perfectly cooked. My mate ordered well done (I try not to relate with him 😂) but even that was really good apparently. The steak which I ordered was the Rib-eye, and good value for money. It was tender, juicy, and lots of flavour, but a bit on the fatty side. The wine selection is nothing fancy but is fairly big to suit your taste. The only thing I would improve is the decor, as from the outside it kinda looks like a kebab shop, but on the inside it’s sort of like a nice bar/pub atmosphere. It’s all fancy and nice haha.
Would go there again 👌
Good atmosphere and very pleasant staff. Service a little slow this time.
Decent vibe and service, but steak was tough, and certainly not medium rare. It was the relatively inexpensive steak and chips option for £15-16 but still wouldn’t expect to have to leave half of it. Chips were unimaginative- more like McDonald’s blanched white uniform processed shards rather than tasty, real things that look like they can from potatoes.
