   Very disappointed visit. They had a wedding taking place during our visit and the other clientele seemed to be forgotten. Over 2 hours passed and our table was not cleared, which in turn meant my children were not offered their desserts which came with their meals. Huge queue at the bar, full of wedding guests which meant I didn't bother getting further drinks. Poor show...

   I’ve been to the black horse many times prior to the pandemic. It’s such a shame that it has gone downhill. The service was slow and unorganised, the food was ok but the gravy had a burnt taste which impacted on the whole meal. It’s a lovely venue but let down by being poorly organised.

   I never had a bad meal at the black horse. But this was a shocker. There was a wedding on that seemed to throw the normal service right off. Table couldn't be found for us, despite the restaurant being empty, drinks had to be chased as the meal came first. Food looked and tasted like it had been reheated. Roast potatoes rock hard. Just not a nice dining experience.

   We have been to the Black Horse many times, and brought friends here because of its normal good food and service. However, on this occasion both were of very poor quality. Our table and chairs were both very wobbly, and we asked to be moved. New guests were shown to our original table, and had the same trouble. And the same on an adjacent table. We waited 20 minutes before our drinks order was taken, then waited about the same time before going to check where they were. We were told our order was next to be done. After a further wait, we went again to see where they were, and they were sitting on the bar, forgotten. They had to be freshened up before the head waiter brought them to our table himself. A similar wait for food ensued. Although the roasts were ok, the vegetables were rock hard, and the gravy was burnt. we werent offered condiments, and no-one came to check if all was ok, so we couldnt ask for them. All in all the service was shocking. The waiting staff all seemed very young and inexperienced - however this isnt their fault, it was a total lack of effective supervision, and apparently training. A good discount was given, however, we would rather have paid full price and left a tip as we have done on previous visits. All in all a very disappointing visit especially when we were showing friends from out of the area around, and had chosen a restaurant that we previously knew to be excellent. Would we recommend Black Horse to a friend? Not any more, sadly.

   Amazing Sunday dinner abit of a wait but that’s expected for great food especially when there’s a wedding on which looked fab!

   Staff were friendly however we waited far too long for our food and our drinks even sat on the bar on more than one occasion. We won't be back on a bank holiday weekend.

   We had a beautiful Sunday roast, meat was superb and vegetables cooked to perfection, all staff who served or greeted us were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return

    Ordinarily I would have no complaints about this place. I have eaten here on many occasions. However, on Sunday when we arrived we were told they were expecting us at 2pm (and we'd booked for 3pm). After showing the Mgr the email confirming our booking time we were shown to a table. Then we waited over an hour and a half for our food and when it finally arrived it was inedible. The staff were very apologetic and offered us complimentary drinks and took 15% off the bill (a small token which was appreciated but I'd far rather have had better service and food!) Having said all this, we would probably still go back as we are hoping it was just a blip.

    Waited 10 mins for a table although booked online. Clearly very busy and not enough kitchen staff. Waited over an hour for food but was offered free drinks as an apology. Open table shouldn’t let you book when the restaurant is already full.

    Very slow service (it took 1 hr 20 mins to get 3 Sunday roasts and a children’s meal). Only 2 options available from children’s menu, side didn’t arrive with it, nor the cordial. We didn’t want to wait any longer for the pudding either. Roasts were good when they eventually arrived.

    Really disappointed with the Black Horse now. We used to love coming here however since they have extended there seating, unfortunately they haven’t extended their staff or kitchen. Over an hour wait on food when advised 20 minute delay for it to turn up burnt. Quite disappointing.

    We have been coming for 8 years and rover the last couple of years the service and food quality have decreased dramatically. Prices are on the high end and the quality of the food no longer reflects what you pay. Seems that Black Horse have expanded beyond a point where they are able to retain their previous quality and all the focus appears to now be on their event catering; weddings etc. Not good. There are entry of other choices nearby that are now better.

    We were greeted straight away and taken to our table. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we felt really welcomed/taken care of, by the staff. This is not standard pub grub. All of the food tasted amazing, all cooked to order with fresh ingredients. Our party enjoyed the fish cake starter and another person loved the monk fish kiev. We will definitely return to the Black Horse.

    The food was lovely and very well presented. Eggs were missing from two of the starters but they charged for only one and were very apologetic. There was clotted cream missing from one of the desserts but overall the meal was very nice. The small mistakes would not stop us from rebooking.

    Garden menu OK- food collected but was just warm - lovely open space for young children but safety wise could do with a fence separating grassed area and parking area plus lump of concrete at bottom of slide on play area which could be matted over

    Booked in advance for 6 people for Easter Sunday. Arrived to absolute chaos. No parking spaces anywhere so people were just dumping their cars anywhere. We were told the table wasn’t ready so to wait in the bar area which was packed full. Waited 20 minutes for the table. Once seated we were told it would be 40 minutes for food, which wasn’t great. Food arrived lukewarm and completely undercooked veg, some inedible. Meat on the Sunday dinner was dry. Ordered another round of drinks which took another 30 minutes to arrive, but missing a drink which took another 20 minutes to arrive, completely unacceptable. Service all round was poor, senior waiter didn’t seem interested and young waiters were unsure of what to prioritise. Will not be returning.

    The service was really slow and poor for afternoon tea. We had pre booked and waited over 45 minutes and then had to wait 20 minutes after it had arrived for a cup of tea to go with it and I had to chase them twice for this. The food itself when it came was lovely but the service was so dire I won’t return.

    Kids meals are excellent value and good sizes for my 10 and 11 year olds. Fish and chips were great and decent portion for an adult. Hand raised pie was also excellent value, filled to the brim with beef but very little vegetables served with the meal, only 2 carrots and one floretteof broccoli. Cod fillet was lovely and meal was very tasty, but the fish cake was on the small side and the greens served was some samphire sprinkled on the top of the clam salsa, the meal would have benefitted from a larger fish cake, or 2 small ones and a serving of vegetables, as the plate of food, apart from the cod fillet was a little on the small side for nearly £18. Many more veg needs to be served with meals, as this is the cheapest part of a meal and can make a plate look bigger. Staff were very friendly and efficient and setting is lovely

    This was my first visit here after numerous recommendation. Good service, poor food which is a shame as it is a beautiful venue. The meat was fatty, the cheese soufflé was more like scrambled eggs and the roast potatoes were not cooked. Very disappointed

    The food was lovely and great value for money. However, the service was very poor. We waited a long time for our starter. We then waited 45 mins to 1 hour for our main course. Drinks also took a long time to arrive.

    Chair broken at table. Packed with people. Waiters confused by table numbers. Wrong orders arriving. Vegan roast disappointing. Waiter didn't know drink offerings. Waited over 20 min just to order. Veg serving was only for 2 when there were 3. Deserts arrived with 5 minutes between them. Very disappointing.

    Went for a Sunday dinner with my mam and wife, for £13 the portions are ridiculously small, 2 slithers of wafer thin beef, a tea spoon of mash, 2 roasties that our blunt knives struggled to cut the out layer of, rock hard carrots. You do get a huge amount of white/green side vegetables. The side dish of cauliflower cheese was also quite large and my wife and mother both enjoyed this. Setting and service was excellent but they are falling into the trap of other 'high end' venues and serving style over substance or arty fatty as I would call it.

    We had afternoon tea in the conservatory. The sandwiches and scones were delicious. Coffee could have been stronger for us. Our only issue was it was really busy with lots of families and parties so the noise level was high and you couldn’t have a nice chat whilst relaxing with afternoon tea.

    So we were there on Mother’s Day have been going to the BH for years however the past two times we have been has been a Sunday and to be honest I think they allow too many diners! Reason being they seem to have a lot of new staff mainly quite young who clearly have no interest in being there, which is a shame as the venue is lovely and the food is normally on point! Both recent visits we have found the staff not to be very knowledgeable I asked if they had a Fanta or a Tango and was told by the young waiter that he did not know! Then I asked if they had lemonade or sprite he went away and came back and said he wasn’t sure but it looked like lemonade. He then took all of our orders but never wrote anything down then when the food arrived one dish was wrong we had asked for extras twice and are still waiting, we had asked two members of their team for these, then we ordered more drinks they never arrived so had to re order the bar gave us those on the house (we had someone who knew what she was doing at this point) non of the food was particularly hot which was the same last time I think that’s because they are catering for too many! The children ordered chicken nuggets and chips and were offered a side of beans or peas however neither side arrived (we weren’t bothered about that to be honest) We will go again as I say have been going for 9/10 years mostly special family occasions but not sure how many more times if this continues. Lovely venue. Child friendly!

    Mother’s Day We waited 40 minutes for our Sunday lunch, which we didn’t complain about as it was busy for Mother’s Day but when the food came the lamb wasn’t cooked properly and was still very pink and difficult for my mother to chew. So she ended up leaving hers 😕 Have had Sunday lunch here many times and lamb was delicious on last visit so was disappointed

    We came for Mother's Day, we have never eaten here before so were pretty excited. The restaurant is beautiful and rustic. We were given a nice quiet spot as my son was asleep in his pram. I personally couldnt fault my food, which was roast sirloin beef. My mother in law in the other hand, her lamb was hurrendous, pink, tough and honestly still looked quite raw. Another table nearby had the same issue. The waitress was lovely at first so offered a replacement or free dessert. We ordered blondies with ice cream which came on a slate. The blondies were cold, although still yummy! I would say serving ice cream on a slate is so impractical, the ice cream was melting and running off the edges. The service after we mentioned the uncooked meat went downhill. We waited 45 mins for a coke and when we got it was flat and watery, waited another 15 mins for a fresh one..the waitress we originally had was nowhere to be seen and hadnt passed the order onto the new waiter... we then waited another 15 mins for the bill. After we paid we sat outside and it was beautifully sunny, the perfect views!

    Set within beautiful grounds, fantastic service and delicious food. I found the price excellent for the quality and can't wait to return. It is a bit out of the way but well worth it.
