at least 2 items on menu not available not mentioned until ordered, bit slow but not a problem
We were booked in for 6pm, I arrived at 550pm we were seated in the bar area. At no point did anyone explane the protocol.
We were left sitting eventually I went to the bar to ask if someone was going to be taking my order 15 minutes later someone came and took orders. 1 hour later we were still sitting awaiting our meal. I was so disappointed I got up and left. I will not be returning at all.
Stayed two nights at the hotel, had dinner on the second night, service good, food excellent and staff exceptional, keep up the good work.
Lovely relaxing venue. Food always good. Service has improved greatly over previous visits.
Service was slow. When we mentioned we had been waiting over 20 mins to get order taken we were given a complimentary desert. When we ordered the desert we asked if the ice cream could be swapped from mint to vanilla. After another long wait we ended up with mint ice-cream. Making payment we had to to queue for a long time in a cramped place
We had a lovely afternoon with traditional afternoon tea. Really lovely atmosphere.
Food was absolutely beautiful staff went above and beyond and always someone around to speak to if necessary. Good value for money.
Excellent food, all freshly cooked to order. Beautiful place with great ambience. Staff attentive, friendly and polite. Very good service and food was not just run of the mill - innovative, exciting and tasty. Highly recommend. Well worth a visit.
Very pleasant place but food disappointing for the price. Probably the worst duck breast ever.
Waited 45 minutes for 4 Sunday dinners which were just warm when they arrived. Only 1 bowl of vegetables between 4 of us which consisted of about a tablespoon of peas each, some green beans which were just about raw but mostly cauliflower. Very average for the price they charge and I’ll not be rushing back anytime soon
Attended with my fiancé and 8 year old. The food was very slow in being brought to the table, when it was the mixed veg was just lots of cauliflower with a few peas and some undercooked mangetout. My sons chicken goujons were clearly frozen supermarket ones and they were Cajun, which my son didn’t like. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks and then had to chase people for the bill and the chance to pay. There was a wedding going on, so I don’t know if that affected the service or the food, but I had been given such good reviews I was very disappointed.
The only bright moment, the tempura black pudding starter was fantastic.
Ve ry nove Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings
The staff didn’t want to be there, they didn’t want to serve us and when they did they missed half of every order.
Lovely food and restaurant and the surrounding area was amazing.
A little pricey but worth it. Staff are lovely but drinks were slow in arriving the twice we ordered, it was quite busy and there was a wedding on. It is a really nice place and I would recommend for any occasion.
The Sunday dinner was 2/10. The roast potatoes were rock hard, mash potato was dry as sticks, one small dish of veg for a family of 4 was terrible. The waiter spilled the gravy boat on the floor, table and just missed my legs too, it got cleaned up on the third time of asking. Service was slow, food was terrible and we won’t be coming back.
We had made reservations but no one marked us off their system so received a few emails complaining about us not turning up for our booking. I don’t like being accused of not informing someone I wasn’t attending a booking that I did attend.
There was a wedding on so service was very slow. There did seem to be a lot of staff but it was still terribly slow.
Food wasn’t hot when it eventually arrived in dribs and drabs. There were 11 of us and we didn’t all get our food at the same time.
A sad selection of vegetables arrived to accompany our Sunday roasts, they could easily have just been put on the plate, then they would not have got so cold.
No benefit having them in a separate unseated dish. The broccoli was raw and crunchy. The roast meats were all delicious.
A couple of us had fish and chips which looked impressive but the fish inside the giant covering of batter was small and dry.
Children’s meals - they had run out of many of the choices which was very disappointing to the kids who were exited about being out with the extended family.
No gluten free or diary free options.
Unsure if it was because of the wedding but the wait time for drinks and then food was appalling.
Expensive for what you actually get.
Lovely food and gorgeous venue. Definitely recommend
Food was nice, but service was poor.
Had to prompt for tea and coffee, then had to ask for cups. Prosecco served warm. Slow service and took the shine away from our Afternoon Tea experience
The batter on the fish and chips was not cooked, this was pointed out to staff who acknowledged the batter was not right and reduced the bill accordingly.
A side dish of vegetables was charged £3 95p this consisted of 1 floret of cauliflower 1 piece of broccoli and 5 baby carrots an absolute rip off.
I have had better value from a bar meal
We sat 45 minutes before out drink order was taken
Food was good, service very poor. Ordered dessert and another drink, which we didn't receive even though the waitress kept looking in our direction.
Service was slow and poor. Rang us the day before the booking to say they finish serving food 2 hours before we were due to go even though I booked over 2 months in advance. Didn’t serve the sides listed on the menu so we had to ask for them which they did not seem happy to provide and there was no apology. They asked if I wanted my beef pink or well done then served me the opposite of what I asked for and when questioned told me that’s all they had so I either take it or leave it. There were no desserts except ice cream left. I let them know it was for a birthday but they still sat us in the entrance walkway even though there were far superior tables available. Overall disgusted with this meal and service
Sunday lunch excellent as always!!
We love the place, but the Sunday lunch we had recently was not as good as it used to be - the topside of beef overdone and cut so thickly my partner could not eat it (the lamb was lovely though), roast potatoes tasted and felt as if they had been kept hot for hours (we had a 1pm booking), swede looked awful (very sloppy and an uninviting colour), mange tout not cooked - the other veg were good and the Yorkshire’s very good. My partners cheesecake was good, but my sticky toffee pudding was far too dense. Please learn to make a good cup of coffee and stock at least one decent beer - the choice used to be good.
Put me in hospital and have only offered a half-arsed apology when contacting them to raise concerns
Table.not cleaned or set. Had to ask for cutlery and napkins. Good nice but service shocking. No one came to Table to see if we wanted anything else we had to go to the bar ourselves. Have been in the past and it was so much better. It was very busy as a wedding on too but one male waiter looked after his area because we watched him. Every time we had to ask for something the staff were stood talking at the bar.
Been coming for years and has always been fantastic. Has definitely gone downhill. Menu choice extremely limited. Service slow and it was not that busy. No flexibility in menu eg not allowing an alternative to chips. Some in our party had steak and it was lovely but at nearly £30 you would expect it to be. The prawn, garlic and chilli starter was tasteless and was sent back as there was no garlic in it. The Diane sauce at £3.50 extra was just a weak mushroom sauce. Very disappointed
Great location. Lovely playground for kids. Loads of parking. Food absolutely delicious. The cheesecake was to die for 😍😋
Limited menu, once seated seemed to be forgotten about for a long time. A long time to wait for food. All customers seated in small area lots of space elsewhere, everyone talking so conversation with my wife was difficult. We have been regulars over a number of years and this was the worst we have experienced. Not sure if the fact there was a wedding affected the restaurant service.
Been here lots of times. Always been good. This is the first time I wish I hadn’t. Slow and inattentive service. Very pleasant waiting staff but clearly not trained to scan tables as they walked around. 20 minutes before anyone approached our table to ask if we’d like a drink. Just over 10 minutes after ordering a meal waiter returned to say one meal wasn’t available. Famous fish and chips I got were unnecessarily huge and not well presented. Nor was it exceptional. My wife’s meal was fine. Didn’t get coffee or dessert because no one came back to check if we wanted anything. And quite frankly by then we didn’t fancy another long wait. Oh
Thank you for afternoon tea we were both impressed with regards to our whole experience
Arrived at the end of a long and busy service - and it felt a bit like they’d given up. It’s a shame cos the food and location were great, but being ‘short staffed’ is no excuse for tables not being ready and unwashed glasses piling up. Would have happily waited in the bar while they caught up - but I think they just wanted us in and out asap. Top tip - book for the start of the service!
The Sunday Lunches are appalling. One dessert spoon of mashed potato which was cold. The vegetables weren't even cooked it was as if they had been dipped in and out of hot water and you didn't get enough. The meat was very fatty. The only good thing was the Yorkshire Pudding. Drinks, well we ordered two halves of blackcurrant & soda but was charged for 2 pints not halves.
For the price we could go elsewhere, get drinks, Sunday lunch and a dessert for the price we paid. Would definitely not recommend.
Went to Black Horse for Sunday lunch to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Food was ok but could have been hotter. Also only one small bowl of vegetables for 3 people and not a great selection. There was no acknowledgement of birthday even though I had mentioned it on booking form. Nice place in beautiful surroundings.
The setting is lovely, management are fantastic but the food was below average had to be replaced twice as it was uncooked resulting in choosing another dish which was a nice dish but nothing to shout about. Overall I would only return to the restaurant for a drink not food. It’s a shame as it is a lovely restaurant and view.
Been here a few times now and the food has always been perfect. Staff attentive. Decor beautiful. Play area for kids. Lots of parking.
Despite us asking for food which wasn't on the menu (garden peas instead of mushy peas, fries instead of chips) this was granted with no problems whatsoever. Will be back again very soon.
Service was good and restaurant is lovely. Not many options on the lunch time menu, with 2 of the options being unavailable due to the restaurant waiting on a delivery, staff were not able to accommodate an alternative option and this was frustrating. Food we did receive was good quality :-)
Atmosphere lovely, good
Covid policy in place. Greeted as soon as we arrived.
Very limited food choice-4-5 main meals. Fish and chips and burger both poor quality especially considering the price. Waited a long time for a second drink which was forgot about.
Overall not a great experience as the place wasn’t busy and not many items to choose from. Unlikely to return as this is now the second poor experience.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere .. Friendly, helpful staff..
Food was delicious good value well worth a visit.
