At Blackfriars we serve a classic but gutsy traditional/historic British menu using local and seasonal ingredients. There’s an abundance of great produce all around us; mouth-watering aged beef, award-winning cheeses, really good organic vegetables, super-fresh fish and local beers. A well-priced Set Menu at lunch, a la carte menu in the evening.

Been to Blackfriars a few times now, and I enjoy it every single time. Fantastic service and the staff does make you feel welcome, food is consistently marvelous, and great selection of wines even by the glass.

My recent Sunday lunch at Blackfriars Restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in a historic building, the ambiance was both cozy and elegant, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. The meal began with a selection of freshly baked bread and creamy butter, a delightful start that hinted at the quality to come. For the main course, I opted for the traditional roast lamb, which was cooked to perfection—succulent, tender, and bursting with flavor. However, the true star of the meal was the mint sauce. Often an overlooked accompaniment, Blackfriars' version was a revelation. It struck the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, with a fresh, vibrant flavor that elevated the lamb to new heights. The mint sauce was clearly made with the freshest ingredients, adding a zesty, aromatic touch that complemented the richness of the meat beautifully. The side dishes were equally impressive. The roasted vegetables were caramelized to perfection, and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Each component of the meal was thoughtfully prepared and executed with precision. Service throughout was impeccable, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who made the dining experience seamless and enjoyable. In summary, Blackfriars Restaurant provided an outstanding Sunday lunch that exceeded all expectations. The highlight was undeniably the mint sauce, a simple yet transformative addition that showcased the chef's skill and attention to detail. I highly recommend this gem for anyone seeking a superb dining experience.

The whole experience was amazing. We were celebrating our anniversary and received a card on arrival from the team which was a lovely touch. I am Coeliac which was easily dealt with, warm bread and little sticks in the food stating ‘allergy’ made me feel very comfortable. The sticky toffee pudding was the nicest I’ve had! Wine list was extensive and we enjoyed our Albariño. Overall a lovely experience and can’t wait to go back!

A fantastic experience. My guests from New Zealand were very impressed by everything that was provided for us. Staff, food and value for money were wonderful. A great example of what Newcastle has to offer. Thank you.

Amazing setting in a historical medieval friary. Staff all attentive and professional. Wide range of food options - we opted for the 3 course set menu with wine pairing which was incredible. Hopefully we can get a table the next time we're in Newcastle!

The staff couldn't have been nicer: welcoming, accommodating and quietly efficient, and the setting was beautiful. I wouldn't say the food was marvellous. I chose from the a la carte menu and really wished I hadn't bothered. Everything tasted so salty that no particular taste stood out and the tortellini in the scallop starter were tough. The scallops themselves were perfectly cooked though.

Reunion dinner with old friends at Blackfriars, first catch up since 2018. Food was amazing, ambience was lovely, staff were friendly, professional and very accommodating when we added two extra people at short notice. We ate there in 2018 and it didn’t disappoint with the revisit. We’ll be back in 2027 😊
