   4 tables / limited menu / 2 servers that also acted like the bartender / no ac / every meal came with mashed potatoes and a grilled tomato / drinks were awful (martini / would you like Smirnoff) 380 for 5 people / 5 drinks served (they never came back) / they put the gratuity on the tab and the server had the audacity to ask if we wanted to add more ? ! I don’t get the hype it was by far worst restaurant experience in Burlington / for the price go to Hen of the Wood / go Bistro Margaret/ go anywhere but here

   Very slow service dispute few diners. Significant difference in the size of the same steaks orders for 3 of 4 in our party. Wait staff taking a shot behind the bar, bar tender AND wait staff testing drinks before serving. States they are a wine bar but wait staff completely untrained for how to parent and serve a bottle of wine- did not allow for testing sample of wine upon opening. Loud wait staff. Additional guest very discontent with service. To top it all the mashed potatoes were lumpy!!!!

   I absolutely hate to knock a small business, especially in this economy, but this was probably the strangest experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. My daughter and I came up from the Boston area to tour UVM and I wanted to treat her to a really special steak dinner. I should have known something was wrong when we walked in at 6 PM on a Thursday evening and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. When we left at 7:30 we were still the only two parties. The menu is extremely limited, maybe five appetizers and five entrées. One choice for vegetable (peppers and onions) and one choice for potato (garlic mashed) for every meal on the menu. And one option for a red wine by the glass which, at a “Steak and Wine Bar”, is unheard of. We had the Caesar salad as an appetizer, which seemed like it came straight out of a bag from Shaw’s. When it came time to order our steaks, the only vegetable option was peppers and onions which neither my daughter and I like. We were offered “mixed greens” as an alternative and what we were served was the same exact Ceasar salad only with balsamic on top. Would it be so difficult to keep a head of broccoli on hand? Steak and mashed potatoes were good but not spectacular. The woman next to us ordered an espresso martini after dinner and was told that they didn’t make those. The whole experience was really bizarre. And our tab was $113 before tip! That was two Caesar salads, two steaks, and one glass of wine. We will not be back needless to say.

   Though the restaurant is not geared for kids, the staff was very accommodating and friendly to ours, ages 6,5 & 4. It was an outstanding meal - best salmon I’ve ever had, and husband (and 6 year old ) said same of the steak!

   My son and I walked over here from our hotel after skiing. I thought the Caesar salad was quite plain, but acceptable. The cheese plate was good, with a couple of local cheeses and lots of other items. The restaurant was obviously understaffed, but I try to be understanding. For a 6:30 reservation, we are still waiting for our steaks at 8:15 PM. The four top near us arrived maybe 30-45 minutes later than us and somehow received their steaks half an hour before us (a 2 top). We are tired and hungry from skiing and have not been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my memory. And the waitress was rude. Our steaks were not worth waiting for. We will never come back.

    Both salmon and ravioli were excellent. Filet Mignon was good, but not excellent for $49 each. Mashed potatoes were ok and just warm. While we really enjoyed our server, she unfortunately had to deal with some difficult customers fighting the mask and vaccine mandate. The staff was very professional in handling these challenges, which may have impacted their ability to serve others in an efficient manner.

    We really had a fabulous time. Food was great atmosphere was great service was great. Really like the atmosphere and the proximity to everything in downtown Burlington. Would definitely go again.

    Outstanding restaurant, very small and intimate. We spent some time with our server Alexie and the chef Skyler after our meal and had an absolutely wonderful time. Great vibes and outstanding atmosphere. Would highly recommend this alley based off beat restaurant =}

    I had a terrible time at this restaurant on valentines day. Made a reservation on Feb 2 for valentines dinner and was seated at the bar next to my SO where I had to constantly move so waitstaff could get by to other costumers. Waitstaff had loud and constant conversation behind the bar, we could listen to them better than eachother. Took an hour for them to get started on our food, and only started after I asked if we could just get it to go. Felt like I could not enjoy quality time with my SO which is all I was trying to do for valentines. When we got back and opened our food, we were annoyed that we had paid 70 dollars for a small scoop of mashed potatoes, 3 pieces of broccoli, and and two pieces of undercooked filet mignon that were the size of meat balls. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

    We love Blue Cat. New Year's Eve dinner. First time in since Covid shut down. Love the decor and the atmosphere. Always so warm and cozy with the dark wood and the elegant table settings. Food was very good. Appetizers were delicious. Everyone's steak was cooked as ordered. The salmon was delicious; beautiful lemon sauce. Minimal staffing as would be expected. Very friendly and knowledgeable. They did a great job during these very stressful times.

    Phenomenal experience! The food was superb with a cozy, eclectic and artistic atmosphere. It reminded my husband and I of the prohibition speakeasy you see in the movies. The staff was very attentive and described offerings in detail and answered any questions we had. I hate to mention it, but my only critique would be that 2 of the staff were having a disagreement about where to seat a party which I didn't feel should be on the floor; however, we thought it was sweet that the staff are so concerned with even something as simple as seating arrangements that they needed a discussion. The beef Wellington special was spot on - my applause to the chef! Please try the Blue Cat if you haven't but give yourself some time. Everything is done to perfection and that takes precision so we started with cocktails and an appetizer to occupy ourselves before the meals. We are definitely going back to try something else since our drinks, palate teaser, appetizer, sides and desserts were all top notch as well. The flourless cake was "DE-LUCIOUS" (had to invent a word to explain HOW good it was) and just the right portion. BRAVO!

    Loved the ambiance, service and especially the food! We had the filet mignon and salmon and shared the cheese plate to start. Wonderful time! Especially appreciated the attentive and friendly service and the charming music (Sinatra and his best contemporaries!). Highly recommend!

    Service was not up to par unfortunately. Small staff seemed uninformed and in informative, menu was not accurate, offered house app was served 25 minutes into sitting down, food took well over an hour to be served staff checked in with us about 3 bites from finishing and were only attentive when it was time to pay. Wanted to like it , food was decent, undercooked vegetables, under seasoned sides, entree was cooked nicely, but overall was not impressed. Value compared to experience just weren’t equal

    The waitresses were extremely rude. First they avoided coming to the table when our party was trying to order more drinks. There was a total of 5 tables seated, one table just finishing their meal. When asking one of the waitresses how long it was going to be for the food, as it was taking over 45 minutes, she started yelling and talked loudly with another waitress about how rude it was of us to even ask. When the food arrived to the table, the lamb was completely raw and it took another 10 minutes to get it back to the table. Overall, awful experience between the wait staff and the food. Will not be returning.

    I usually do not write reviews but this experience was rough. I understand that wait staff is limited, supply chain is challenging, etc. but at some somepoint a business needs to take some responsibility for their presumed "higher end" dining experience. Setting: My wife and I and one other couple, on a early Friday night. Service: Soooo slow, we were there for over 2 hours, waitress was a nice person but undertrained for a place that tries to position itself as a medium to higher level place to dine. Food: Meh, I've had worse, I've had much better given the pricing of things, again I understand everything costs more these days but give me a break. Will we go again? Noooooo....

    Wow....Most of us going out these days have compassion for the folks managing the complexities of maintaining an establishment during COVID times. That said, there comes a time when you have to pack it in. Aside from the beautiful ambience, Blue Cat is a shell of an establishment...with servers walking razor thin lines between politeness and resentment, wait times that defy the definition of "casual dining", and food quality that leaves you wondering why you were suckered into waiting in the first place. Sorry guys.....grim.

    i hardly ever write reviews. this was appalling on every level. short-staffed to the point where they couldn't serve, for hours. no professional waitstaff, no warning, no advisory, nothing offered after unable to bring cheese plate app for 2 hours. after drink took almost an hour. seriously. asked for no cream on salmon, diff prep pls; was brought tiny piece with dipping cup of vinegar. mmm. refuse to serve at bar; cram diners into small tables on top of each other. insane. pandemic anyone? time to turn the place over to successful professional restaurateurs... became obvious quickly why this was the only local spot with an open table on open table. update: booked en route from boston, b4 reading other reviews. offensive service is their hallmark, nice! [not] rude and self absorbed young standout who should under no circumstances be involved with the public. unless as a shaming shock jock comic at a howard stern club.

    Had a rather unfortunate overall experience at Blue Cat, and I would not return. The problem was with the service and the management of the restaurant. When we arrived for our reservation (early evening), we were only the second table in the place. The first table had ordered but was awaiting food. We ordered our entrees (two steaks medium rare, no appetizers). We sat for nearly 45 minutes, waiting for food. The first table received their food after a similarly long wait. I asked the server whether our food was coming soon, since it had been close to 45 minutes and it simply doesn't take that long to cook a medium rare steak. I was then "schooled" by the server on the fact that they had to cook other food for other tables in the appropriate order (again, there was only one other two-top - they were not at all busy, though some tables were starting to arrive) and that it had in fact "only been 36 minutes" (because she marks down the time of each order) and that if we wanted fast food, there were plenty of other places in town that would accommodate us, etc. I was appalled. I made my living as a waiter for many years and would never have treated a customer in such a manner. They clearly have no idea about customer service, nor pacing of a meal when it is clear that the customer will not be indulging in multiple courses.

    It was an anniversary dinner. I understand with Covid staffing is a challenge, but service was not great. The customer greeting was subpar. The food was not great and I even had a insect in my salad! The quality of the food versus the value was definitely off! We ended up leaving Blue Cat and going to Vermont Brewery to get better food and beer. Very disappointed with our experience.

    We ate here on a busy Friday night in Sept. Despite the crowds in town, this place was quiet. Service was prompt and the food was good. We had salmon and lamb for main course and they were nicely prepared. The lamb could have done with more seasoning and flavor but the accompanying vegetables were perfect. One minor gripe is the with only 4 people in the place, the background piped jazz was a big overwhelming and could have been lowered a bit. All in all, satisfactory but a little pricey for what you get.
