Boadicea Bar & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Good tasty food, nice, friendly staff and reasonable prices! The only thing that could have been improved is that when you first arrive at the restaurant it is not clear whether you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. This was only a minor improvement though, everything else was great so thank you!
Outstanding food for the price in an establishment that is undeniably cool. This place makes me wonder why more restaurants in Colchester can't deliver to this standard as they make it seem so easy. My new favourite hangout and I can't wait to spend whole days here during the summer.
Tried it for the first time last friday evening (3march) since it opened in october following recommendations from friends who ate here.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Nice and local for us and i must say we were impressed with the overall look both inside and out , this will be a great place to come and sit on the terrace when the weather is warmer.
We both had a starter and to follow I had the burger and my wife had the chicken breast. The food was great although the chicken breast did not come with vegetables so my wife ordered a side of vegetables which i presume they forgot when the food came as she had to wait 5 minutes for them to turn up.
The drinks menu had a great choice and we finished the evening off with cocktails which were amongst the best we've ever had.
My only concern is having the football playing on tv's in the bar and having a dj playing music next to people eating may put off people older than student age which it seems to cater for.
Overall a great evening although a little expensive for both food and drinks but we will definitely be back in the future.
Lovely place and great food! I have eaten here before and I loved it then too! Our table was booked for 9pm but we didn't sit down for about 30 minutes as they were running a bit behind but the manager was very apologetic and even got us a free drink. Good music and good vibes in there! Love it in there!
Really great food and ambience. A couple of vegetarian options which were good as two of us are veggies. Service was good until we got our desserts, then the waiting staff seemed to care more about cleaning down for closing rather than clearing our plates and offering more drinks. Overall a good night though.
The food here is lovely. Great flavours and creative combinations that work well. The staff are polite and friendly and the clientele are generally smart and fashionable. I like the fact its out of town and a bit different venue. Only negatives - Music a little loud for early evening dinner and it was a bit cold but I didn't complain so cant blame them for not sorting this :)
Fantastic food and service, I had noted on the reservation it was for my wifes birthday but nothing was done, there was a local band playing upstairs some may have found it a bit loud but we love the band so it just added to the evening. 3 courses each 2 cocktails a large wine and 4 pints of Moretti for £100 absolutely amazing value.
Boadicea is a new restaurant/Bar in Colchester and my wife and I visited for an anniversary meal on Saturday. I was a bit underwhelmed by the welcome or bar service I received and the seating arrangement upstairs for eating is a bit strange and I'm atmospheric but after these initial issues we both had a throughly enjoyable meal. The food we both had was excellent and the prices are good too. I felt the music that was on in the background was a bit loud and 'banging' for a restaurant but ideal for a bar.
Overall I liked the decor and feel of Boadicea but maybe it needs to decide if it's a bar or a restaurant
Went in the evening for a date on a Monday so not busy. Quiet and cosy. Food was good but quite pricey. Nice cocktails and wine list but the variety of the menus were not great.
Is a nice find in between student accommodations and would recommend it to others
Cool place. Great food and cocktails. Lovely interior, good atmosphere. Unfortunately our 9pm table wasn't ready because they hadn't cleared the previous group yet and didn't want to just chuck them off the table.. finally seated at our table 30minutes after our booking time. Given a round of cocktails whilst waiting, which were brilliantly made. Definitely go back!
Lovely staff, reasonable service. However this can't make its mind up whether its a resteruant or a bar/ club, which means you might get to eat in the middle of a hen do listening to terrible house music. Food is pretty average and range of drinks is poor (no ales in 2017?). This might impress if I was 18. Not recommended. Guys, just drop the menu, do bar food and catering for parties and you wont disappoint your target market.
Staff not very friendly 2 people behind the bar walked away when we entered and left us standing there. We were eventually seated and immediately asked what we wanted before even looking at the menu. We were not told what was unavailable on the menu until we tried ordering it.
The food when served was only just warm and the mains were served on tiny wooden boards not big enough for the food to be on.
Considering this place has been branded as THE place to go in Colchester I will not be going back or recommending it to anyone.
