This was our first visit and the experience was fantastic. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and knowledgable. We eat out at Indian restaurants regularly and this was as good a meal as we have had the whole experience was brilliant and we would definitely eat here again when in Torquay.
We had a great time, the food was beautiful and the portions weren't huge so we even managed a dessert.
I mentioned it was my birthday and our table had been decorated along with a little bottle of fizz, which was a lovely touch.
Thank you, we'll be coming again
My wife and I visited the Bombay Express during an overnight stay in Torquay, and were treated to one of the best (if not the best) Asian meals either had ever had. My Goan fish curry was absolutely fantastic, with delicious fresh fish and seafood in a perfectly spiced sauce. My wife chose a fried lamb dish and was just as enthusiastic about her choice. The pilau rice we had to accompany the mains was fluffy and perfectly cooked (wish I knew how the chef achieves this), and we also ordered two tasty side dishes (thank goodness we'd skipped starters, or I think we would have had to get a doggy bag. The night we ate here was midweek and therefore a bit quiet as we expected in March. Great service from very friendly and informative waiter who helped us to make our choices as the menu is unusual compared to Indian restaurants we have previously been to. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try something a bit different.
An excellent tucked away gem ! Subtle flavours that tickle your tongue. Highly recommend making a special trip for dinner here!
Absolutely beautiful food, full of flavour. Excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout
Really excellent snd friendly service, very impressed. Food was not usual Indian restaurant style, and I loved the different options, staff were knowledgeable when asked about unusual dishes. Only issue was the noise level from other tables, think the design of the restaurant meant it echoed. Also it was quite cold in the restaurant. Again, excellent service and we would return. Thanks.
This was a lovely dining experience, which enhanced our evening. Great food, two lovely front of house girls and a very relaxed atmosphere. Compliments to the chef's for introducing us to real Indian food.
Another lovely meal at Bombay Express. We both tried different dishes this time....they were really good. We're slowly working our way through the menu!
A lovely menu and although I'm not vegetarian or vegan, there was also a good choice within those catagories. Something on the menu indicating the heat of each dish would have been helpful but the waiting staff were able to assist us. It was my birthday and a complimentary drink and table decoration when we arrived was a nice touch. The food was excellent; fresh and tasty with the use of some lovely spices which were evident in each dish. The rice dishes were also superb. Next time we will try the naan breads and some vegetables. There was a nice choice of desserts - the two we chose were lovely. We will definitely be returning soon.
Lovely evening, excellent food and charming staff. Thank you
First time I have been since they launched their new menu. Its really different. All dishes were excellent and good value for money. The service was excellent too.
Food was great - best Indian I have tasted in the area was very quiet the night we went - maybe could do a bit of a revamp decor-wise nothing wrong but would maybe encourage new and return diners..?
We were a party of 6, who all really enjoyed our meal. Two of the group have Indian food on a regular basis and said that the meal was as good as any that they have had in Birmingham. I am unable to eat chillies but found that there were several dishes that I could choose from so I was very happy. Pleasant attentive serving staff and a very welcoming atmosphere. We will be back.
Loved the fact that you had the usual Anglo Indian food but the menu has some real cuisine I loved the butter chicken.
Lovely food and great service. Good choice. Well presented. Very tasty
We really enjoyed our meal, from main to dessert it was a nice find.
The menu is printed A4 hard to read with such small writing and not easy to understand. Food lovely even though we didn’t know what we’d ordered
Service very good, food was very good, poppadoms were sold as portions which were crunched up,you seem to get alot less served this way,our party of four prefer them to be served whole, menu had changed since our previous visit, presentation was excellent and food was delicious although it was more expensive we will be returning
Have been here a couple of times and found everything to be very good, great service and lovely food. Would recommend to all
Just amazing. Fantastic vegan options. Great service. Wonderful team. I can't wait until my next visit!
Kind staff, and tasty food in large portions. Reasonably priced.
Could not fault the service, really friendly and helpful. Portion size was good and food cooked well.
A terrible meal! Starter prawns like rubber.
My main course was supposed to be a biryani but just 2 different coloured rice. The chicken was dry and tasteless. I requested the get sauce to have a bit if heat, Madras like but came as a spiceless mush. My wife's lamb was so tough it couldn't be cut or was lumps of fat and in a mush sauce we no heat. And the pilau rice was just plain white.
As a local resident this place has gone down badly in the past few years. It used to be excellent. We will not return.
Very good food and service. Waitress was very friendly and happy.
The food was ok, not greasy but lots of fake colour - the veg masala was very bright pink!
It said lots of veggie options but just veg versions of masala, korma etc rather than specific dishes like say mushroom biriyani. You could order sides as mains which helps I guess.
They also charged us for a beer they accidentally brought over. After pointing it out they refunded it but there was no apology - just embarrassment from the waitress. Weird.
Other waitresses were very pleasant.
It looks very modern but a little hotel decor feel - not individual or funky or cosy or Indian style like you may expect.
A bit disappointing really when we paid £50 for two with only one alcoholic drink each.
Never been here before, but were in Torquay for the weekend. Restaurant was busy nut service was good and staff friendly. Food was very good.
After looking trip advisor I decided to book. We turned up and mentioned I had reserved a table and they greeted us with our names and immediately showed us to our table.
The service was very attentive and the food was acceptable.
Overall a pleasant experience and we would go back.
The Service was so kind and nice. The food delicious and a big portion. Everything perfect.
Great food, great host. Would highly recommend and will be back again
Very good service staff and food excellent, well worth a visit
Baltic could have done with more curry sauce was too dry.
Four of the party had the vegan set menu which was amazing for £15 each. All meals were divine, very impressed and will be eating there again.
Our 2nd visit to bombay express and this time the food was even more tasty. The 2 vegans that dined with me loved the very large choice for them and one particularly loves the great value vegan set menu ( still with a choice).Staff are excellent and knowledgeable when it comes to special diets.
Very well priced meal.will certainly be back again soon.
We called in after an impromptu visit to Torquay and wanted to eat Indian Food. After a search of 'the best Indian Restaurants in Torquay' we found Bombay Express number one of the top three and we were not disappointed. Lovely setting (and around the corner from our guest house). The staff were friendly. We were seated quickly, the ambience was nice and quiet with a touch of background music so you could still hear yourself speak!
The waitress took our drinks and allowed us to peruse the menu. We choose poppadums and pickles and mains with rice and a side dish and a nan bread. The food was excellent. We spoke with the owner, who was walking around helping out with serving and clearing tables and speaking to customers.
The food, as well as being excellent and the service, was reasonable too. We would not hesitate to come back when we are in Torquay.
Please open one in Somerset!
Firstly my wife and I are very experienced in Asian food and have a long experience of both eating and preparing it. Very impressed with the quality of food and portion sizes. The staff and service were excellent. The ambience was really nice, a mix of Bollywood music and video but without being obtrusive. The mixed starter was fresh, crisp, well prepared and very tasty. The pickles and Poppadoms very tasty, dry, crisp and fresh. The Garlic Naan was a good size, freshly prepared and tasty. We ordered spicy garlic chicken. I found it just perfect, though lacking garlic, but my wife found it too spicy and not enough garlic to call it garlic chicken. That being said, we enjoyed our meal, and would recommend Bombay Express for Asian dining. Thankyou.
Have been here a number of times. Always friendly service and excellent food. Would recommend.
Fantastic vegan food. Nice to visit a restaurant with cruelty-free, healthy options on the menu. Thanks!
Finally we have found an Indian Restaurant in Torquay that we like! Slightly costlier than the average Indian, but it's worth it - you also need to remember the main dish prices include a rice or naan in the price. Indian food can quite often taste of not much more than chilli, but my Jalfrezi was amazing, it was lovely to have a really spicy dish where you could still taste the distinct flavours of the ingredients in it.
Loved the menu, nice and clear and a lot less cluttered than the typical Indian restaurant menu.
Really loved the friendly welcome, and was really pleased to see the attention and explanations of the dishes given to another party who had clearly never eaten Indian food before.
Great service - loved the place
Surprisingly the inside is so much nicer than expected compared to the outside which is unusual
Although eating early as toddler with us there was a good ambience. Staff were very efficient and food was very good. Great evening.
