Bombay Velvet
Wow! Talk about fine dining with glamor! That about sums it up for Raj Chopra’s newest expression of Indian culinary excellence and style. From the moment you step into this petit looking bistro tucked away near the Reston Town Center you are transported into a world of gold and onyx and an interior that appears to take inspiration from the opulence of the Mughal empire transformed into the present day with modern furnishings and lighting accents. The journey continues to inspire with a menu that captures the soul of North Indian cuisine with a panache for the exotic, combining rich flavors, artistic presentation and a determined focus on quality of experience. This is dining worthy of an upscale DC neighborhood which makes it all the more exciting to have such access in Reston!
Food and service was great! Highly recommend - unique take on Indian cuisine.
Outstanding meal. Beautiful decor, delicious food, superior service. Everyone in our party of 7 raved about the dining experience. Our new favorite!
Great service. Delicious food and cocktails. Modern take on Indian food. Portions are reasonable which allow for enjoyment of appetizer and main and possibly dessert (if sharing). Lovely evening. Look forward to going back and trying more of the menu.
The quantity of every item is very small, you would need to order at least two portions of everything for just 1 person.
Food took more than 45 minutes to arrive. Overpriced menu. Very small portion size. I’ve had better food at a lunch buffet.
Fabulous food and service. Beautiful space. We will be back!!
A modern spin on traditional dishes!! A must visit!
This was our first time at Bombay velvet. We were pleasantly greeted and sat immediately. The service was wonderful throughout the night. They had a number of traditional drinks as well as the classics and some really neat combinations that we had not seen before. The food was spectacular. We will definitely return!
Excellent food. Loved the Indian whiskey and the Indian wine. Salmon appetizer was outstanding. Entrees were perfectly portioned and well prepared and presented. Staff was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I suspect this will become a popular location.
Food and cocktails were delicious and inventive. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and the waiter acknowledged the occasion with a special dessert. The food was delicious but the portions were a little small.
Amazing service and outstanding presentation of the dishes.
The services and ambience are good. But for the value of money, the food isn’t that great
Our dinner at Bombay Velvet was delicious. The food is really the star at this new restaurant. The chef has created many tasty delights based on a fusion of Indian cuisine and modern combinations. Fascinating tastes well-prepared. The night we were there, the restaurant was almost full (it was a Friday night), and most of the patrons were Indian, so that's a good sign that Indians in this area enjoy eating at this restaurant. The two things that took away from our eating experience were the high level of noise, which made it difficult to talk with our friends, and the remarkably slow service. At this restaurant, you have to wait a lot for your dishes to arrive, and for the wait staff to visit your table throughout the dining experience. A shame. Otherwise I would give this place 4 stars.
Amazing experience. Food, drinks, atmosphere, everything so fantastic!! Can't recommend enough-
Beautiful restaurant, modern and elegant, great for a special occasion or fancy date night. I'm calling the food nouveau Indian because it's not your traditional Indian food that every other place serves. In fact, we didn't find any of our "go to" entrees on the menu. However, if you want something different this is the place. I love the decor, feels super plush, like the name implies. It is comparatively expensive and probably wouldn't bring children here.
Here’s my detailed review: simply loved the ambience, decor and presentation of the food... very upscale .. Food was hit or miss.. as with most restaurants... they brought us the meal platter menu for lunch.. said we cd order a la carte too from a separate menu but we both thought we wd try the platter so we can try more items that way.. as that menu looked good for our late lunch...the baingan, paneer curries, Sambhar were very different but tasted really good as were the appetizers and the salad... the Sambhar could have been more traditional, tasted like a simple curry... lemon rice wasn’t flavorful but plain as I guess it was supposed to be that way to pair with the accompaniments... husband said naan and kheer were awesome.. he had mine too:) boondi raita was bland and soggy..
last min I thought I wd look at a la Carte menu while they were working on the bill and I was so mad at myself... they had so many unique items ... so hv to go back to try them another day!
I consider Bombay Velvet to be the BEST restaurant in Reston.
Food quality was extremely poor for the high prices.
We went for lunch, when they have a prix-fixe menu available for $15.50 (not including beverages). My wife and I each ordered from the prix-fixe menu, and that was more than enough food for two hungry people. I had a delicious, spicy lamb curry, with sauce so flavorful I ate most of it with the wonderful accompanying butter naan. I also ordered a fried fish dish which was arrived crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. It was good, but overwhelmed by the lamb. In addition to the butter naan, the lunch also came with excellent lentils and gulab jamun. I can't comment on the latter, as I've never been a fan.
My wife ordered the Paneer Makhani, which was amazing. The paneer was had a dense, creamy texture, and the makhani curry was perfect. She also ordered a chicken dish which she loved, and I have forgotten, because I loved the lamb so much. Her meal was also accompanied by the naan, lentils, and gulab jamun.
Service was wonderful.
Amazing food and service highly recommend
Outstanding new spot in Reston!
Excellent dinner. Food was delicious!
This is definitely one of the best place in Reston to dine. Good cocktail, amazing ambiance and quality food.
This was an atypical Indian dining experience. Food quality to price ratio is less than one. Service was absolutely awful. Very anemic. We were charged for two alcoholic drinks when we had only water.
Loved the service and great recommendations by the staff
We had a wonderful time at Bombay Velvet. The service was impeccable and the food was very good. We also had some fun cocktails that you can't find anywhere else. I would highly recommend.
The service was out of this world! Food was great, don’t get me wrong, and the place is gorgeous inside, but the service was through the roof outstanding! I will definitely be going back!
For a fine dining Indian restaurant in the ‘burbs, I was excited to eat here. Alas, I was disappointed with the overall service. The ambiance is lovely and the food is good (non-veg dishes were better than the veg dishes). However, it lacks consistency and quality of service. Train your people in customer service and not just to follow orders from the manager or higher ups. And then there are smaller issues that can be easily fixed. The beautiful plates with “Bombay Velvet” etched on them were taken away once you are seated and when asked why we can’t eat on them, the reply was, “it’s only for show” !! Seriously???! I also noticed that several serving dishes were too large for the food served within it AND for the table. So for a table of 7 guests, there was eventually no place to put anything extra down! We were served cold jalebis and gulab jamuns and were told, “South Indians eat it that way” (whaaaat?)!! This South Indian didn’t take kindly to that. Lastly, splitting the tab between all of us took a lot of coaxing. In the end, they obliged but not after several convos. This took away from the whole experience. The most important takeaway for the owners from this review should be that the food is good (which is half the battle won) but service and putting the customer first can improve.
Amazing restaurant. Very pleased and hope it becomes as popular as it deserves. Easy walk from RTC.
Excellent food, even satisfying to two young children. Enjoyed the three cheese appetizer, the butter chicken, the scallops, and the naan. Attentiveness was good; food delivery seemed long for a weeknight evening with a lighter crowd and two youngsters.
It's still and I think the dishes (spinach chaat in particular) need some work. Pricing was a bit high as well. The place is stunning, and our server was attentive without being intrusive. Odd that a man who appeared to be the owner or manager was roaming around looking surly and failed to acknowledge the three tables of customers. Saw him drive off in a Maserati, so he wasn't a dishwasher!
awesome food... i can see myself being a regular here.
Too expensive for indian food standards. Many upscale restaurants in DC are not as expensive as this one. Vegetarian dishes are ranging from $20 to 26 and the quantity is not even sufficient for one person. My mohito was watered down and My huband's bay of bengal drink was tasteless, waste of money.
The dishes are fancy but too big for the size of table, Tables are too small to fit the fancy serving dishes. I ordered Dal Makhni, the dish took more than half of the table and hardly had enough for both of us to share.
What I liked was that the dishes were out of the box, the chef was creative. Loved the decor!
awesome... been there twice already in a week.
An excellent new addition to the NoVa restaurant scene. Super decor and ambience with a very attentive server. Food was nicely done and well prepared. Great place for a special occasion.
The items were overpriced and the tables too small for two people.
Awesome modern indian food. The options were plentiful, the mushroom appetizer was delicious as was the lamb chop appetizer. The lobster curry was divine. The craft drinks were a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this to anyone. (Only thing they were lacking was a vegetarian curry which I found surprising.)
New restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Food was good. Had an interesting menu.
Way too expensive. $80.00 for an Appetizer, Entree and 2 glasses of wine. Menu and presentation was exquisite. Eclectic for an Indian restaurant.
Lunch for $20.00 would be more affordable. That's what I plan to recommend to a friend. Will not go again for dinner on account of expense.
