Bonbori Sushi izakaya
Signature dishes include ‘Sushi Bombs’, ‘Special Rolls’, ‘Curry Udon’ and ‘Kimchee Rice’.
Excellent authentic food - light tempura, delicious sushi & tasty chicken karage. I went with two friends, who I met whilst we were living in Japan & it was a gastronomic treat. But the service from the waiting staff was awful. The first of us to arrive were not greeted, & the reservation was not recognised, & the waiter seemed half asleep.
But its worth going to Bonburi for the food! Its excellent - just don't expect great service. I'd go again for the sushi alone.
Rude & argumentative staff with poor service. Not attentive too, we had to keep calling for their attention or had to keep going up to the bar to get the staffs attention. Sushie was decent except for the main courses that was below average and tasteless.
It's a great little place, really good food, good selection of drinks too
Food was very good, service excellent.
The bill was very high for comparable Japanese places we’ve been to.
I guess location is primarily aimed at rich tourists and business people.
Sign of the times eating in London I guess.
Purely on food, service and ambiance it was great. Prices not so great.
Really lovely food, lots of new flavour combinations discovered! Friendly and attentive service!
Amazing fresh food. We had the vegeterian and salmon special plates and they were both very tasty with good variety of different sushi pieces . We would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone looking for good sushi in a chilled environment.
Good value for the price we paid. We will return.
Yes, I will recommend it to friends. I enjoyed Rainbow rolls, really nice. AT the time I was there local was quite empty, so waiting time was short.
The venue is dressed really well, you feel like you are in Asia as soon as you take your seat. The food was good. The venue were having It issues when we visited so we had to go to get cash as the payment system was down and there was no WiFi.
The food was good but the service was appalling. We had to wait for ages for every stage of our meal. There was only two other tables occupied while we were there so the staff were hardly run off their feet. It was such a shame as I've been there for lunch before and it was fantastic. I booked it to take friends who hadn't been before and it was embarrassingly bad. The waiting staff spoke so quietly we could barely hear them and not once did they even smile, I appreciate that people have bad days but it felt like we'd walked into a tragedy. I don't think I'll be going back for a while.
Great food and service was top notch
The food was bland and the service disinterested and poor.
Nice idea and great looking restaurant but overall disappointing
Looking for a Japanese restaurant in the local Waterloo area and found this place online. It was cheap and cheerful and did the job. Service wasn't amazing, waitress spoke a bit quietly so hard to hear what she was offering us. But overall, it was good.
Service was not good. One item was forgotten and we had to go and remind them. Tables that arrived after us were served before us. Found the food really expensive for what we received.
Great sushi and noodles. Waiters were friendly, but not very attentive - we struggled to make orders and pay even if the restaurant was not busy at all.
4#h time I’ve been. Great every time. Tiger prawn tempura is unmissable
It was to quiet for a saterday night, They also deliver sushi so drivers where running in and out, making it cold inside! You have to order food at the counter, the tables where sticky! The waitor did not bring all the food at the same time! The food was good though! I would rather go somewhere else next time!
It was my first time in Bonbori sushi. I really recommend that place because of good food, nice staff and cosy atmosphere. I tried some dumplings and salmon set and everything was really good. And don't forget the desserts - yuzu cheesecake is the best one.
Lovely restaurant and great food! The staff was really friendly and helpful. I’ll be back again !
The hot food that we had was really good like the gyoza and the sake pawn rolls and karage chicken but the biggest let was the sushi. It was bland and tasted the same we even had the fried chicken sushi and that wad bland. So on that note I can't really recommend this place
Doesn't match with the pictures and reviews online.
By far the worst Sushi I ever had at a restaurant. We left without finishing our meal. Maybe the fact that the Restaurant was empty when we arrived should have alerted us to cancel our reservation
Reasonably priced sushi for everyday dining. Though this is not a special place it was just what we were looking for for a quick bite near our hotel. As many reviews have said, the place was empty on a Friday night and the staff was focused on takeout orders. But the sushi was good and not expensive. Edamame was served cold which maybe is a British thing, but home it is served hot, which is much better in our opinion.
We really liked the food and the service although we were surprised when we found out that we were the only ones at the restaurant (on a Friday night!). Apparently, they are very famous for the takeaway service (flying fish). The restaurant is well located, 2 min from Southwark station but maybe is a bit hidden and that's why it was so quiet!
Terrible... Booked for valentines night (also anniversary for when we got together, so a special day for us). Booked because close to a show we saw close by and love sushi.
Problem was we was shown to our table, then never saw anyone! No one took our order for drinks or food or explained they were busy, which they were not!
They just dealt with deliveroo drivers but than customers!
So much so, we walked out after about 30 minutes in the rain to find another restaurant on a very busy night!
Keep it up guys
Will come back !
Great Sushi. Really nice service.
Horrible food. Horrible service. Not welcoming at all.
Either Open Table is not a reliable app for table reservations or Bonbori Sushi was irresponsible to its customers because l made a 7.30pm reservation on 24 Dec which l later changed to 8.30pm and was accepted and confirmed thru Open Table. But, l arrived in London on 24 Dec, checked in my hotel and hurried to the restaurant in the cold London night to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday only to find the restaurant CLOSED & SHUT!! Thoroughly bad & unbelievable experience!! Not recommended!
Lovely set up and well cooked food. Sushi was a bit on the pricy side but it was delicious. The restaurant is a bit off the beaten path but we were surprised to find it almost empty when we got there considering Nando’s next door was packed. I like the quirky decor but it was so quiet that it lacked ambience. Definitely worth a try as the food was good.
Slow service and bad food. Edamame were congelated and the makis were very standard.
Really great sushi!!! The best I ever had in my life!!!
Really friendly staff and helpful as well!
Great atmosphere. Delicious and authentic food. Very friendly staff. I'd recommend this place for a meal out with a difference
Great food and nice people. Will definitely go back
The food is surprisingly good, especially the fried rice. Meanwhile, the price is much cheaper than other resturant.
We had a great time for my little birthday dinner and the sushi for the price was really good!
Wonderful food that we absolutely loved, and really cool street scenes on the walls
Great sushi, quirky location, very sweet service.
