Bonbori Sushi izakaya
Izakaya are the most popular style of restaurants in Japan, and the best place to experience typical Japanese food and hospitality.
Really enjoyed our meal. The place is very quiet and suprisingly not busy, but it was good value for money and had quirky interior. Very tasty food and friendly staff. Would recommend.
Really lovely staff members. They were really helpful and accommodating with our dietary preferences. The food was really nice. Would go back there again.
We went for lunch on a Sunday so it was perfect for a tranquil date. It feels authentic and the food was served promptly.
We ordered nigiri selection, sushi and fried chicken. It was delicious. Definitely will be back.
We had early dinner there. It was a quiet evening. 2-3 other tables were occupied during our dinner. The food was good and fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our dinner!
The place was empty and dark so there was no ambience. Service slow and substitution of chips was not acceptable for missing items - particularly to our guest who spends a lot of time in Japan. No alternative was offered. As this was at the start of our meal that rather set the mood. Food was generally pretty good when it arrived but all service had to be prompted.
Fantastic food, drinks and service, the place has a really cool feel with the Japanese style of lights and art. Highly recommended!
Venue: brightly lit, not as atmospheric as the photos suggest and loud music playing. Empty on a Tuesday night.
Staff: waitress was lovely but for c£45 per person would expected good service.
Food: good but not out of this world, gyoza were burnt on one side.
Overall, was be good for a weekday lunch but not worth the money if you’re looking for more of an experience.
AMAZING!!! High quality sushi with allergies taken very seriously. Will be coming back the next time I'm in London. Fantastic!
Fantastic food and service. Our server, Romina, was very pleasant, attentive and friendly. Thoroughly impressed and would definitely come back again.
The restaurant was strangely deserted on a Saturday afternoon. The food was tasty and plentiful and arrived reasonably quickly. We were a party of four and we shared a plate of salmon sushi, a plate of vegetable tempura and a bowl of potato konchee as starters. Then we had a large bowl each of a hot dish. I had salmon teriyaki. The price was very reasonable.
Lovely quiet spot for me and my friends to catch up. Sushi bombs were tasty and really appreciate the crunchy texture on the outside. The salmon crunch was good, although I didn't really know what to expect because the menu is very limited in explanation. I really like the concept of marking your order rather than the waitress doing this - very much like dimsum. This avoids errors in what has been ordered and the waitress explained everything at the beginning. She was tentative and friendly and so was the gentlemen, who I think was the manager. Both were very friendly and welcoming, so kudos to them!
One of my friends ordered a green tea (I think) and it came in this nifty tea pot, which is place on top of your cup and it disperses from the bottom as you press down! We were highly amused :)
The only let down I would point out was the chicken Karaage, when going to a Japanese restaurant - this is usually a dish I order as a starter. however, it was tasty and moist but it lacked in serious crunch. I was expecting the super crunchy karaage I usually get from other restaurants.
Overall, great experience and will definitely come back with other friends.
Great place, great food
Service was beyond bad. We ordered a tea which had weird teapots and the woman just shrugged and went “yeah, they are all broken”. Really struggled to get drinks too. Also had no idea about the reservation and just waved and said go where you want and we had to push tables together as didn’t fit on one table. Annoying as the food was actually good for the price
Curry was awful and had to return it back but waitress was not happy at all, she made us feel awful that we can't eat it. She wasn't approachable in the first place when we asked her to come closer to explain that we dont like the dish.
She then went to the kitchen and was pointing at us from far away.
At no point she said sorry or would you like to change the dish instead!
Tried this place for the first time as I heard they cater to people with allergies. The staff was very friendly and I asked for their allergen chart. I was confused when I asked whether one dish could be made gluten free and the waiter said yes because they’ll just remove the cheese. That should have raised alarm bells but I trusted them to know what they’re doing. When I ate my sushi, I noticed something crunchy that almost tasted like fried onions. Again, should have stopped eating but I trusted the waiter who assured me it was gluten free. It’s been about 4 hours of terrible pain and I know now - it was definitely not gluten free. People with allergies or intolerances beware!
Was good. Nice and authentic and the food was good for the price.
sushi is wonderful, big portions, really good sushi. very nice place.
Wasn’t very busy so lacking a little in atmosphere
Excellent authentic food - light tempura, delicious sushi & tasty chicken karage. I went with two friends, who I met whilst we were living in Japan & it was a gastronomic treat. But the service from the waiting staff was awful. The first of us to arrive were not greeted, & the reservation was not recognised, & the waiter seemed half asleep.
But its worth going to Bonburi for the food! Its excellent - just don't expect great service. I'd go again for the sushi alone.
Rude & argumentative staff with poor service. Not attentive too, we had to keep calling for their attention or had to keep going up to the bar to get the staffs attention. Sushie was decent except for the main courses that was below average and tasteless.
It's a great little place, really good food, good selection of drinks too
Food was very good, service excellent.
The bill was very high for comparable Japanese places we’ve been to.
I guess location is primarily aimed at rich tourists and business people.
Sign of the times eating in London I guess.
Purely on food, service and ambiance it was great. Prices not so great.
Really lovely food, lots of new flavour combinations discovered! Friendly and attentive service!
Amazing fresh food. We had the vegeterian and salmon special plates and they were both very tasty with good variety of different sushi pieces . We would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone looking for good sushi in a chilled environment.
Good value for the price we paid. We will return.
Yes, I will recommend it to friends. I enjoyed Rainbow rolls, really nice. AT the time I was there local was quite empty, so waiting time was short.
The venue is dressed really well, you feel like you are in Asia as soon as you take your seat. The food was good. The venue were having It issues when we visited so we had to go to get cash as the payment system was down and there was no WiFi.
The food was good but the service was appalling. We had to wait for ages for every stage of our meal. There was only two other tables occupied while we were there so the staff were hardly run off their feet. It was such a shame as I've been there for lunch before and it was fantastic. I booked it to take friends who hadn't been before and it was embarrassingly bad. The waiting staff spoke so quietly we could barely hear them and not once did they even smile, I appreciate that people have bad days but it felt like we'd walked into a tragedy. I don't think I'll be going back for a while.
Great food and service was top notch
The food was bland and the service disinterested and poor.
Nice idea and great looking restaurant but overall disappointing
Looking for a Japanese restaurant in the local Waterloo area and found this place online. It was cheap and cheerful and did the job. Service wasn't amazing, waitress spoke a bit quietly so hard to hear what she was offering us. But overall, it was good.
Service was not good. One item was forgotten and we had to go and remind them. Tables that arrived after us were served before us. Found the food really expensive for what we received.
Great sushi and noodles. Waiters were friendly, but not very attentive - we struggled to make orders and pay even if the restaurant was not busy at all.
4#h time I’ve been. Great every time. Tiger prawn tempura is unmissable
It was to quiet for a saterday night, They also deliver sushi so drivers where running in and out, making it cold inside! You have to order food at the counter, the tables where sticky! The waitor did not bring all the food at the same time! The food was good though! I would rather go somewhere else next time!
It was my first time in Bonbori sushi. I really recommend that place because of good food, nice staff and cosy atmosphere. I tried some dumplings and salmon set and everything was really good. And don't forget the desserts - yuzu cheesecake is the best one.
Lovely restaurant and great food! The staff was really friendly and helpful. I’ll be back again !
The hot food that we had was really good like the gyoza and the sake pawn rolls and karage chicken but the biggest let was the sushi. It was bland and tasted the same we even had the fried chicken sushi and that wad bland. So on that note I can't really recommend this place
Doesn't match with the pictures and reviews online.
