Boxcar Butcher and Grill
We are a casual dining restaurant, with a small area of outdoor seating, main dining area, rear dining area under a full-opening skylight and a lower-ground seating area for 20 covers overlooking the kitchen and charcoal grill.
Came here for dinner for my bf birthday had a couple of burgers. Burgers were nice was not too keen on the chips though as they had weird rosemary sprinkle on them and were very thin and dry but everything was edible. The service was good although the staff are very busy. Overall I do like Boxcar (I always go to their bakery/cafe which I love as it is so chilled) and was fairly good value for money. I don't think I would go back though as I was not overwhelmed but the steaks and food other people were eating looked really nice and the atmosphere was really nice.
OMG - what a find. Awesome steaks/burgers, great staff and a kitchen that deals in magic. A must try!!
This restaurant was just a few minutes walk from our hotel. We had chosen the restaurant as the menu suited our family. The steak and burgers here are above average but we have had better. Unfortunately our visit was ruined as we were sat by 3 men who were obviously worse for wear and were very loud and couldn’t string a sentence together without using bad language. The staff did nothing until my husband advised the manager that if he didn’t ask them to stop with the language then my husband would. This was all in front of our 13yr old son.
This was okay - we came here for my Cousin's birthday. Food was okay, the steak was chewy but the burgers were good. Sides were nice. The waiter maybe couldn't quite hear what we were saying so was repeating incorrect orders to us (eg we said three glasses for the wine, he repeated two...). Thankfully this was a chilled evening so wasn't too much of a problem.
Lovely ambience and vibes
USP is steak; I ordered very rare ribeye, I said almost “bleu”; steak was medium-well done. Replacement steak was rare but tasteless. Singed tomato on side, inedible . Strange spinach. Chips & duckfat potatoes both fine. Not likely to go back.
Amazing food with leaning towards steak , the service was friendly & professional . The wine recomendation was excellent . I tried the mixed platter which was gorgeous followed by mouth wateringly tender Chateaubriand. I will definately be exploring the menue at Boxcar when I am next in London .
The burger was amazing, messy and tasty
Good steak for london, decent sides as well. Service good as well
Group of 6 for Sunday lunch. Food order came 1.30mins after order taken. Burgers over cooked and cold. Roast beef and pork ok. Gave us 5% off bill for slow service. Shame nice ambience but over rated food and poor value for money
Very good! Staff is very friendly!!
Had no idea what to expect, was very pleasantly surprised. Great service and an excellent steak for a very reasonable price
6 of us went for dinner, they did not have enough of the wagyu steak for all which was fine, however 4 did order. Ten mins later they did not have enough leaving just 3. One came out well done and should have been medium rare and amazingly they found a spare steak. Food was nice and well priced but because it all felt a bit sus even with a 11 quid discount I wouldn't go back
Fab dinner with my Dad after Christmas shopping. The food did not disappoint. I’ll be back
My new favourite escape, just minutes from the madness of Oxford street. Cosy and calming restaurant. Delicious burgers!
My boyfriend and I didn't know the Buxcar Butcher and Grill, since we are not from London, but we made a reservation and had the best time. The food is simply AMAZING. The staff was super friendly, and wee stayed way longer than we intended, sipping on some great red wine. 10 out of 10! Would definitely recommend.
Having been to your Marylebone restaurant once, I booked it again for a Director from overseas.
It was 25 minutes before a drinks order was taken. It was 40 minutes before the main food arrived and the sides arrived 20 minutes later. Very poor service
They group were very disappointed and so was I having recommended you to them.
Nice pleasent evening - very good steaks and pheasant - would definitely include in my next trips
Wine was warm, steak was over cooked.
Good ambience, limited options on menu but good quality of meat, mediocre wine list (variety and quality). Good for an informal steak or burger in the area
This is now a favorite for good meat, simple and small menu, everything is very tasty and fresh. Wish you still had the big blackboard up. have recommended it and everyone loves it.
A pleasant find off the main street. Excellent food and unobtrusive service.
The breakfast was great. The quality of the ingredients were excellent, and I felt it was really good value for money. The place was quiet, but was ideal for a nice relaxing morning. The general ambience of the place is nice, and would definitely like to return one evening. Overall, a great experience.
I always get enticed by beautiful food photos, and forget that UK burgers and steaks suck compared to US, So America, Australia etc.
The box car is no exception.
Wine selection is modest but the two reds we tried were quite good.
A wonderful choice for quality steak, innovative starters and great service. We splurged more than we were intending to, but it was worth it!
Amazing food and service. Surprised it was quiet tho. But I will be returning when I go to London next!
Was really good the first time around. Went back with work colleague and though still very reasonable value and products, the ribeye steaks we ordered were overly salty when served. Also they use to cook steak with rosemary but this does not seem to be the case any longer ....
Waitress was average, took ages for the food, got the order wrong and then charged extra for something i didnt order. 3rd time there and will question whether there is a 4th.
great burger, fries, greens, friendly service - pudding was okay, could use some more exciting options (but it is a butcher after all...)
cool decor & layout too, calm & airy feel.
Really excellent meat!
They had run out of the sides i wanted (broccoli and chicken scotch eggs). But the rib eye was awesome! Well seasoned. Did not need the peppercorn sauce.
I will come back.
Great evening; lovely food and friendly service. Would recommend and will come back!
Excellent food and service, perfect for a business dinner
Friendly staff and great food and beer. Wonderful find.
Sunday lunch menu was beautifully done. We have the beef and the lamb and both were beautifully cooked. My wife is 32 weeks pregnant and it was no bother at all when we asked if the beef could be well done. The potato and truffle gratin extra side dish was a little small but the veg that came with the Sunday lunches was beautiful. There were some nice draught ales available and the cocktail options looked great. This restaurant has a beautiful interior, great music and really relaxed vibe. Well worth a visit for Sunday lunch!
The restaurant was quite small and tables were very close together. We had a table next to us who were very loud so our dinner was disturbed. The menu was very limited and all quite heavy choices. Food was good, although our burgers were slightly over cooked. Service good and staff friendly. It would be good if they added a few more choices to the menu.
What a cosy quaint place to eat. I love the decor and the ambiance. We all had the sirloin steaks and they were all cooked to perfection, with fries and other veggies sides. All great. The menu is limited but personally I prefer that. The service was warm friendly and efficient.
I would definitely return to this place.
Love this place. A small, yet creative menu. As a working butcher shop, they can also whip up a delicious dish from a selection of cuts from their cooler. Quiet street steps away from Oxford Street and teh Mayfair area. Friendly staff. Great place for a perfectly cooked burger and a pint of beer.
eggs hollandaise was excellent
i went there for the sunday roast which is going to get a mixed review: everything with the roast (potatoes, carrots, yorkshire pudding) was great except for the roast beef. they were cooked medium well to well done. who eats beef that well cooked?? (no, i was never asked when i ordered how i like my beef cooked). nonetheless, it was edible - but what a waste of beef
Great burger. Went there specifically for that reason. As I always search for burgers places around the world.
Boxcar's reputation is very high and I'm delighted to say all three of us who enjoyed the Sunday Roast absolutely agree with the critical and popular enthusiasms. Superb produce beautifully cooked--outstanding roast beef accompanied by perfect vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. As a bonus: good robust red wine at an extremely reasonable price. Friendly and efficient staff...welcoming room...a true treat on Old Quebec Street.
