eggs hollandaise was excellent
i went there for the sunday roast which is going to get a mixed review: everything with the roast (potatoes, carrots, yorkshire pudding) was great except for the roast beef. they were cooked medium well to well done. who eats beef that well cooked?? (no, i was never asked when i ordered how i like my beef cooked). nonetheless, it was edible - but what a waste of beef
Great burger. Went there specifically for that reason. As I always search for burgers places around the world.
Boxcar's reputation is very high and I'm delighted to say all three of us who enjoyed the Sunday Roast absolutely agree with the critical and popular enthusiasms. Superb produce beautifully cooked--outstanding roast beef accompanied by perfect vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. As a bonus: good robust red wine at an extremely reasonable price. Friendly and efficient staff...welcoming room...a true treat on Old Quebec Street.
Great food and service!
Excellent quality food and service in a friendly and nice environment. I look forward to going back again for the 5th time!
Great service, comfortable and good food. Come back often.
Absolutely amazing - we got a massive cote de boeuf and a fillet - the meat was excellent and the cooking (rare) was simply perfect. Try it!
Great meat well prepared, really nice sides very kind service... but long waiting time to be served
Friendly waiter but bit slow bringing bill/desserts even after we said we had trains to catch. Great steaks.
Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and really good, simple food. The meat quality and flavour was excellent. But also the sides and deserts a cut above the norm. Very satisfying.
Probably the best burger I’ve ever had.
Steaks look amazing too. A real find.
Overall good. Steak smelt a little strange as if it was clocked with pork
We had a great time!
Quality of meat, good wines, great dècor and Patricia is a very pleasant, professional addition to the Team.
High quality steak with creative / tasty fries + a green bean salad that was absolutely a taste sensation. A bit pricey given the ambiance. Avoid the downstairs dining room or you’ll be facing the toilets (doors often left open). Wine priced high end also.
Sophisticated burger bar that does not leave you feeling stuffed and greasy. Nice. Lovely street atmosphere too.
Loved our visit to the Boxcar. Food was excellent and the sevice fabulously. We all loved our food including the vegetable tart which looked and tasted beautiful. Food is not cheap but it is London so not surprising. Only downside was the chicken was not available. Would definitely return to Boxcar.
Probably the best ribeye steak I've ever had. Relaxed vibe. Attentive non-obstrutive service. On my list of go to places.
Sunday lunch was okay, expected more.
Possibly the best steak I’ve ever had!
Amazing food and a Great Sunday Roast. Well worth a visit.
Utterly delicious!!!! I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times in the last few weeks and on each visit I experienced excellent service and ate incredible food.
One of the best steaks I've had in London. Loved this place!
I found this restaurant on a Saturday morning and intrigued being a butchery, we went for lunch and it was great. We ordered rib-eye and it was perfectly cooked and the side of confit potatoes was awesome.
Really nice spot in a quiet street of central London.
Really nice food and good selection of local drinks. Would’ve liked more guidance on food from the waiter.
Well cooked good food, small menu but all good quality
Myself and partner found this place online and the reviews convinced us to book.
We ordered a large ribeye, medium rare for sharing along with a portion of skinny fries and minty peas. The steak itself was well done which was disappointing, although we did still enjoy it.
We never ate starters or dessert, so when a bill of £100 arrived, my jaw almost hit the floor. The steak itself was £62, and due to the weight and size of the bone, was more like a steak for one person.
Very disappointed to have had to pay so much for a very average, over cooked steak.
Great little restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection the rosemary fries were too. Generous portion sizes. I would definitely recommend. One thing I woulda say is that the restaurant itself was a little too hot but I think that may have been where we were sitting and the fact that it was the hottest day of the year.
We usually like Boxcar, but both steaks overdone. Sides were delicious, and drinks were good. Don't get a date night often, kinda disappointed.
My first time at Boxcar and was very impressed. Seems like an obvious idea to attach a restaurant to a butcher and I wasn't disappointed with my sirloin steak which was top drawer. Excellent chips, some English mustard and three bottles of excellent Wimbledon ale and it was a perfect lunch.
Superb meal had by 4 of us. The T-Bone 800gm was incredible as was the Prime Rib and Hamburger. Would not hesitate to recommend it!!!
Great food, great people and really good value in an otherwise expensive city. Highly recommend
Pleasant enough room/decor made memorable by excellent service and great food (off a surprisingly short menu). Buying your steak by the 100g is always a quick way to get a surprise when the bill comes but our choice was 110% - great flavour, cooked exactly as requested. I went expecting a burger joint pretending to be more and got a friendly restaurant which knows how to cook what it clearly likes.
Menu is very meat heavy, as you would expect. We were uncomfortable...we wanted a relaxed family Sunday lunch but were taken to a table with stools, which meant we didn’t linger. Wouldn’t bother going back...cooking is good but I want a seat!
My friend heard about Boxcar online via the food bible, so we thought we'd give it a try. It did NOT disappoint!! The food was amazing - cooked to perfection and tasted delicious! The service was also very good - the staff were attentive, and our waiter was able to explain each cut and recommend an ideal share-size steak for us. They also had a great selection of wine, and a very chilled out atmosphere.
A very minor negative was that when we looked at the bill in more detail we realised that we had been mistakenly charged for an extra glass of wine, but given the quality of the meal, this would not stop me going back in the future.
I was recommended to this restaurant by a friend and so I dragged along three of my buddies who are all meat eaters to this very well appointed restaurant in central London. The food was absolutely delicious, and plentiful, it wasn’t too noisy like a lot of restaurants out today, so we all enjoyed good conversation . The only criticism, is The waitress we had was very limited in her understanding of questions we asked especially over confusing boards on the wall. I’m Fortuny her English was not very good, and so we had to get somebody more senior and English speaking to explain what was what. That certainly would not put me off going back
Sounds dramatic but I reckon that was the best burger I’ve EVER had ANYWHERE. I’m in my 40s so have had a few over the years too! Really delicious and the beer was superb too.
Lovely food - great experience
I love Boxcar, food is great, service is good, and the venue itself is very nice. If you want a good steak then this is absolutely the right place, but they do also have healthier and vegetarian options. Definitely worth giving a try.
Been here many times as it’s local and a great supporter, until last night. Booked on Open Table (I think they give you the worst tables) presumably as they have to pay a commission. Anyway got there early and was shown to a table in the back. Asked to be moved but was told there were no other tables. Tried nicely to press them to swap a table but no joy, so decided to leave. Manager recognised me as a regular and tried to intervene, but the girl on reception who had little customer skills had already spoiled it so we politely decided to leave. Appreciate the restaurant had reservations but when we arrived there was the pick of the tables. Every time we’ve booked on OT we’ve been pushed to the back. We may just be unlucky but won’t go back.
