Brasserie Deluxe @ The Orangery
The Orangery offers classic Scotland on a plate, and has become one of Fife’s most special destination restaurants. Sumptuously decorated in shades of silver, copper and chocolate, with floor to ceiling lunette windows and a glass roof ceiling, The Orangery offers a delightful meal whatever the occasion of your visit. Classic contemporary with service very much relaxed and informal.
All over an excellent experience, and would highly recommend
Very relaxed lovely space. Not rushed to finish meal and plenty of space to chill in lounges after meal with a coffe.
We were left waiting when we first arrived, about 25mins before bring offered a drink and menu. There seems to have 2 weddings going on.
We arrived slightly late, but this was not a problem and were warmly greeted, great service, fantastic food, house ale was a pleasure to drink, pleasantly surprised by the bill being very reasonable. Would recommend
Good quality of food and a pleasant ambience. However slightly put off by several waiting staff standing at door staring over, as soon as we put cutlery down they were upon us. Perhaps too efficient ?
Great food and service , friendly staff.
Well worth a visit !
Balbirnie used to have a lovely night time set menu with 3 or 4 choices for each course. It still has a great setting but menu now more burgers and bistro/pub food. Such a shame as no longer a special occasion venue. They already have a bistro so don’t understand the menu change.
The staff were very pleasant but service was slow and not attentive. We asked for more water 3 times high never came. It took 25 minutes for a drink and food order to be taken on arrival. We also asked to go back to the lounge for coffee and after waiting 30 minutes left. There was a wedding on so staff may have been stretched. I would go back to Balbirnie but will stick with the bistro from now on.
Excellent food. My wife enjoyed her mussels in chilli and coconut sauce for a starter. I ordered the ribeye which was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Portions were fine and we shared a dessert and cocktail. Would highly recommend.
Excellent service,food (nice surprise extras
Canapes and sorbet) ,ambiance, cleanliness on every level.
Often visit the restaurant on special occasions. Excellent varied menu. Restaurant service good, waiters very attentive.
Overall very good. Would recommend.
Book at last minute to meet up with friends who were in the area. We all really enjoyed the ambience and the food. We all had 3 courses and wine, everything was faultless. The only negative was a long wait to order dessert, the restaurant wasn't busy but there was a wedding party in the hotel. Will certainly be going back.
Lovely ambiance and fab service. My husband loved his food, as I am vegetarian and fussy my food was ok, but i think that is just down to my own personal taste.
Have been coming to the Balbirnie Orangery for many years and have always found the food quality and service to be exceptional. The lovely ambience of the Orangery make it a preferred eating place.
Fabulous service great food
We were married here in 2014 and always come back once and a while.
We visited the orangery for a special family meal, could not have picked a more perfect venue. Thank you, We will definitely return.
Although overall a pleasant evening, with reasonable food (menu doesn't change and not quite "fine dining" as the Orangery used to be; sadly the service was very slow. Main reason was probably that a wedding party was being looked after at the same time as the Dining Room was completely full. We arrived at 7.00pm for a 7.15 reservation. Did not get any drinks or see the menu for a good hour. Eventually was served Starter course around 8.30. Only had two courses, no desserts, no coffee, but still only finished at around 10.00 pm.
Was a lovely experience to once again dine in the orangery
Pleasant surroundings with a beautiful atmosphere and ambience
Waiters and waitresses superb manners and pleasant to deal with
Was a lovely family night out hopefully to be repeated soon
My family and I are regular visitors to the the Orangery at The Balbirnie for many years, however on this recent visit, the service and the finesse had become not as important.
When I arrived we were not guided to the sitting-room/bar as usual, there was no offer to take my coat and we were not offered a wine list when we were sat down in the Orangery. The food was nice, although the Mushroom tart as a starter lacked flavour.
In my opinion the service and the star quality The Balbirnie has to is guests within the Orangery greatly reduced.
Good food and service in the restaurant, but poor table service in the lounge, twice we had to go up for our own drinks, a hotel of that standard should have good table service, very poor.
The food was excellently presented and tasted amazing.
We had several waitresses instead of one personal one and some where better than others.
When it was time for after dinner coffee we got forgotten about and had to go looking for a waitress as no one was about.
It was like you've had your meal ....goodbye.
A very nice experience for our Golden Wedding Anniversary ! We appreciated the plate with strawberry tarts and celebratory message served with our coffee - thank you for this nice touch.
The only downside was that the Orangery was cool, it was a particularly cold evening and there appeared to be no heating in this area. Nice gas fire in the lounge was appreciated.
Throughly enjoyed our experience, great selection of main courses and desserts, very friendly and attentive staff. We returned for our anniversary and they made it extra special for us.
Would highly recommend and we look forward to our next visit.
Brilliant value, wonderful ambience and delightful food. Staff are fantastic. What more could you ask for?
Our family birthday celebration was made all the more special by the little items provided by the staff. Would highly recommend.
It was an amazing place to eat and highly recommended 10/10
Great service, setting and food. Always enjoy eating at Balbirnie but atmosphere was really good on this occasion for some reason and the service was great.
My Wife and I had a lovely time at the Balbirnie Orangery on the 22/9/18, it was my Wife's Birthday treat and the evening was relaxed, the food and wine we chose was very nicely presented and full of flavour. The Orangery has warm welcome with crisp white table clothes, making the dining experience an real treat.
Enjoyed a lovely evening with family to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The food was delicious as always and the 2 young members of staff waiting the table were warm and friendly. An excellent menu set at a very affordable price considering the quality of our meals.
Fantastic Dinner on Saturday, excellent staff food great ambiance excellent.
Lovely place to have a meal.. service is tops!! Food was fabulous great value for the money. Would highly recommend it.has a cosy and chilled out vibe... overall 5 stars
Rebecca and other staff in the dining room were excellent throughout as was the food.
For the second time now though leaving the dining room to have coffee elsewhere in the hotel is a mistake and I would not advise making that choice stay put in the restaurant
The service and attention to detail is gone at that point and if you did not speak up you would go without and should just head home
I've thought long and hard about writing about this point but want to be clear so it wont happen on my next visit - if I'm allowed back that is
Lovely place to eat! My favourite. The quality of the food for the price is incredible, the staff are lovely and you can tell that they have obviously been trained. The ambiance is so nice and the décor is beautiful. You cannot go wrong in this restaurant. The set up is good because the tables are spacious and you aren't too close to the next table. Lovely. We are here at least once a month.
Have been to Balbirnie house on many occasions, NEVER had a bad meal though service has not been the fastest on a couple of occasions. Would definitely recommend this location for special occasions. Not the cheapest of places, but not the most expensive either and the quality of the food has always been good. The location is great if you want a relaxing few hours away from the norm.
As ever well received, pre drinks served as ordered, dinner for the party served and much appreciated
Staff were very nice and food was good as was the setting, really nice and better value menus than in the past :-) Will be back soon!
Good food and surroundings and not too expensive, very relaxing and tranquil.
Regularly use Bistro. On the Tuesday night we went to the Orangery service was extremely slow and 2 guests did not get their first choice mains as the kitchen had run out of mussels. Restaurant is nice as were staff - was just a bit disappointed with the waiting time on that particular night.
Other than the surroundings/space I see no advantage in choosing the Orangery over Bistro - particularly as menu is exactly the same.
Unfortunately standards have dramatically dropped since last visit. The no longer offer fine dining, it’s more like pub grub. Very disappointed.
Hi, my husband and I visited the Orangery on the 16th June'18.
It's a 4 star country house hotel and we looked forward to the meal. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the menu: e.g fish and chips, steak pie, just not what I expected from a 4 star establishment.
On the plus side , a great variety of wine available by glass not just house wine only.
Service ambience and food quality verging on Michelin 1 star standard. Excellent and very good value local food, very good value wine list friendly staff. Beautiful surroundings and comfort. Needs very little to get to Michelin standard and because of the good value at present, I would prefer it to stay just as it is. A great find in Fife. Will be looking to stay here too in the future.
