We dine out frequently in Los Angeles and other major cities & we’re generally reasonable, easy-to-please people. We are also Gordon Ramsay fans & have enjoyed several of his restaurants in other cities. For a joint birthday celebration for my father and me, we chose Bread Street Kitchen in St. Andrew’s Square—an ideal location surrounded by some of Edinburgh’s most popular spots. We had a 7:30 reservation. While other nearby restaurants were bustling with waitlists and lines out the door, Bread Street was nearly empty—only 2 other tables were occupied in the entire 2-story space. Red flag #1. We were seated under glaringly bright, uncomfortably hot lights—like the ones you'd expect at a high-end jewelry counter, not a dinner table. To start, we shared a Caesar salad and an Heirloom Tomato Salad. Both were good, though slow to arrive. For mains, my mom had the Thai Red Prawn Curry with coconut rice (recommended by the server), and the rest of us ordered the Chickpea & Courgette Tikka Masala with saffron rice & a side of fries. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, our food took about 30 minutes to arrive. The curry was watery, unexpectedly spicy (with no warning) & the coconut rice was dry and flavorless. The tikka masala was bland, lacking the depth and warmth typically associated with the dish. We all quietly picked at our meals, disappointed. When my husband asked about his missing fries, the server quickly retrieved the very order we had seen sitting under the kitchen lights for 30 minutes. My husband requested a fresh batch, which the server eventually delivered—w/o apology. We were never asked how our food was, and when the server cleared our mostly untouched plates, he didn’t acknowledge my father’s rare complaint about the meal’s poor quality.Overall, Bread Street Kitchen felt like a missed opportunity. With such a prime location & Ramsey's reputation, our expectations weren’t unreasonable—the experience left us wondering how long they'll stay around.

The food was extremely disappointing. It was served cold. It was not of the standard one expects from Gordon Ramsay. I believe he would have been livid. We had the prime rib which was the most expensive and was not cooked properly. Severely disappointed.

We expected, from a restaurant with Gordon Ramsay's name in its title, a bit nicer food than the one we were served. We ordered the starter Haggis bon bons, that I can say was one of the worst haggis I ever had. The texture was way too smooth and pasty, it felt like I am eating a patte, the rice was completely mashed and all the ingredients became one mash. The taste was very blunt. We ordered as main courses: Gordon Ramsay's Fish and chips. It was alright, nothing special just your plain old fish and chips, no different from any round the corner fish shop. Roasted cod. This one we can say was very good and it felt more special, only one small point, maybe a sliced lemon in the plate would be nice. Grilled seabass. The taste of it was decent, the sauce was very nice, maybe a tiny bit salty. The problem with this dish was the presentation. My girlfriend (Amrita) is a big lover of fish and she would mainly eat fish meals in a restaurant. She got scared by the way this thing looked, the way it was opened in the midle and spread out on the plate. Maybe just debone it and fold it back again, or slice it completely in half and place the two peaces in the plate would have been better. The exact words were "This thing looks like a dead cat, not a seabass". The prices for the meals do not match the quality at all. The service was excellent, atmosphere as well. thank you Alexandar Hristov

This is a restaurant I make sure to visit every time I come to the city for a proper meal. I had the most delicious sirloin steak I’ve ever eaten here. The same quality applies to their Thai food and almost everything else on the menu. The atmosphere is bright and refreshing, and the service is quite fast considering the quality of the food. Even though I couldn’t always make a reservation, they were helpful with finding a table, especially during less busy hours. Some of the red wines and selected beers on the menu were particularly great. It’s an expensive restaurant, but given what they offer and their location, I believe it’s well worth it.

All I can say is “yum”. Due to some kitchen issues they were on a 3 course fixed price menu. Made it easy to order and options were fantastic. Wonderful service. We’ve always wanted to eat at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and we were not disappointed.

Food was good quality, warm and served quickly from point of ordering. The staff were very friendly and attentive - we were a party of 5 who didn’t arrive together. As soon as somebody arrived, their complimentary glass of Prosecco as part of the Itison offer was brought to the table. No need for us to ask / chase, which was appreciated.
