We arrived soaked and wet from the Edinburgh rain, not really how we planned our day, but also not a big deal as we hail from the PNW of the US and frankly, we have more rainy days than Edinburgh per year. We were in the mood to have some tasty food and our reservations had been made nine months out to ensure we had a table. We’d selected this restaurant because we were after a very specific dish. A dish we’d recreated, step by step, line by line, as per his instruction. We spent one of our Navy family days off having a ‘family recipe day’ preparing Gordon Ramsay’s Beef Wellington. As it turned out, we were extraordinarily happy with our selection; it was amazing. However, some years later (time and circumstances have their way), we wanted to be sure, we wanted to try Ramsay’s Beef Wellington in one of his restaurants to see if we’d missed something, made a mistake, or if we’d been spot on. As it turns out, our family recipe day Beef Wellington so many years ago, as per Gordon Ramsay’s recipe, was the best memory made here. We were woefully disappointed with the Beef Wellington we ordered. There are four of us – we, as well as our sons, ordered the Beef Wellington dishes that serve two at more than $140.00 each, plus a bottle of wine. What we discovered in our Beef Wellingtons, or really didn’t discover at all – was that the prosciutto ham was completely missing, the pastry was overcooked on the outside (more of a dark brown, as opposed to a golden brown) and soggy on the inside from the mushrooms, and on the whole, the entire entrée was dry. I wanted to cry. I really, REALLY wanted to love our time and our food at the Bread Street Kitchen and Bar, but the reality is, none of us did. We likely won’t make it to Scotland again for many years, so we’d made Bread Street Kitchen and Bar one of our very specific stops, we wished we hadn’t. Perhaps Mr. Ramsay needs to pop in on his restaurants unexpectedly to ensure his dishes are prepared properly. Lesson learned.

We arrived early for our reservation and sat in the bar area for a drink and snacks. We got seated and were told the kitchen was a bit backed up. We ordered a few appetizers and drinks. We got our mains after being in the restaurant for two and a half hours. We were promised repeatedly that our meals were coming out “soon” so we hung on and waited. We had been traveling and we were quite hungry. We closed the place down still getting excuses about the kitchen being backed up. We were with my son and his children totaling six people. So the service merits zero stars but that is not an option.

I was super excited to Bread Street Kitchen. Loved the menu selections but found our service and food to be mediocre. The wagyu meatball to be so dry and tough it was difficult to cut through. Not at all what I expected. And the crumpet under the crab appetizer was so dry it seemed stale and flavour less. And way too thick for the skimpy amount of crab on top. The proportions seemed off. Service was basic and nothing special when I said the meal was just ok - there was no response. Also 6 pounds for still water! Wow. . The only thing I can recommend is the sticky toffee pudding. It was dreamy.

Gordon’s own Kitchen Nightmare. Burgers were terrible. Over cooked dry. Food took forever to come from the kitchen. Wait staff was just OK. Very disappointing. Save your money and go somewhere else. Gordon needs to revamp this place

This experience was outstanding. The food we had included the beef Wellington, steaks, the prawn appetizer, and more… and not one part disappointed. The servers, Chloe and Alistair were attentive and went out of their way to ensure we had a great dining experience. My family of four would recommend this location to anyone looking for an excellent experience and delicious food. Thank you to Bread Street Kitchen and Bar for giving us a great family dining memory!

Food was not as expected. Steak was quite tough (three of us had the steak and all were tough). Idiot sandwich and macaroni and cheese were mediocre. We were so excited to go to Gordon Ramsay restaurant and were very disappointed.

Poor, avoid. This is a franchise operation and not up to the standard of Gordon Ramsey flagship restaurants. We had the Beef Wellington Experience. Tuna Tartare was served on a tasteless avocado paste on toast. Wellington was not great or at the standard of the Hell’s Kitchen locations. Desert was ok. Service was lacking and after taking our order we didn’t see the waiter again. Men’s toilets were dirty and two of the three basins weren’t working, the third had a blocked drain. For £210 we expected better.

This was supposed to be a special night out, but so many things went wrong. They were out of some of the dishes we wanted to order (meatballs and butter chicken). They mixed up our order and it took over an hour to get our starters. Some of the dishes were completely flavorless (burrata and fried cauliflower dishes). My husband’s roast beef arrived without gravy or horseradish - the reason given was that they had run out of ramekins. And we found a piece of plastic in the burrata dish - the waiter tried to tell us it was an onion. So disappointing!
