Briars Historic Inn
We booked for lunch Tuesday September 18 -2018 which was confirmed by your organisation.
On arrival after driving 2 hour from the northern part of Sydney we were advised that the Briars Historic Inn was closed.
Why were we not advised of this matter?
Very poor unacceptable management from BHI and your organisation for not making this known to patrons.
No apology has yet been received from you or the BHI Management .

Options for improvement:
Food....... Charcuterie board had over cooked roast beef on.... left overs?
Lamb filet had the impression it had been precooked and then reheated... not good
Saltimbooka a little dry
Overcrowding in front room, so noisy and struggled to get around.
Rest of meals good esp steak freshly cooked.
Solid food with good service. Looking a little tired perhaps.
Lovely mix of an old country pub, and a relaxed restaurant. Lots of variety with seating, inside, verandah, deck. Decent variety of food, and cook your own steaks if you want to. Great staff.
The menu was dated Summer 2017 so time to update. There were a few blackboard specials. Essentially it is pub food, with a cook your own steak option. Cabinet display for dessert. Would hope to see some different options when we return next.
Booked a table for 6 on Sunday at 1pm. Lovely atmosphere. Food was delicious, it was order at the bar and bring to the table. All meals came at the same time. Had a lovely afternoon, no pressure to leave.
Myself and my partner enjoyed the hold night, from the Christmas in July food which we enjoyed.
the warmth of the rooms made it pleasant , staff where welcoming and prop with the food.
We stayed at your motel next door, and found the room excellent , we will be happy to stay and dine at
Thank you for your service.
I was not aware it was a buffet-style service when I booked. Thought I was in a leagues club with the quality of the food. There were two long hairs I had to rescue from my dessert. We were hoping for some tea and coffee after lunch, but gave up as had to wait forever.
had a wonderful time.. Staff were lovely, especially the bar staff. Super friendly and ready to accommodate. Food was great, but the wait time from ordering deserts and coffee was way too long. Other than that, had a great time. thank you
After booking a table on your app in the time slot given as ‘only time available’ 3 pm, we arrived to find that the kitchen closed at 3pm! Only 4 out of the 8 guests had arrived and we were told to order for everyone because the others wouldn’t get anything to eat otherwise. This isn’t really acceptable when you have planned to have a leisurely family lunch. The staff tried to help but said we had booked too late a time
We cooked our own steaks and the steak was beautiful, very tender. Salad bar was fresh and filled regularly when we were there. Cold windy day so everyone was inside but it would have been nice to sit outside. Only complaint was that they were down a staff member and their was only one guy behind the bar who was doing a fantastic job under difficult circumstances.
A very pleasant few hours spent at the Briars. A good selection of food, well prepared ( in some cases excellent), generous servings. Staff were excellent. Good range of wines. Much enjoyed. Thank you.
Had a great night. Very enjoyable and good food. Service was really good
We had a lovely time, the food was terrific and the staff very friendly and helpful
Friendly staff. Very big serves-maybe share an entree so you can fit in delicious looking desserts! Nicely cooked traditional comfort foods
Have always loved Briar’s, food is always excellent. However this time around we found the wine list to be quite disappointing. Nothing decent by the glass in the wine, rose or pinot ranges. When driving buying a bottle doesn’t make a lot of sense. A little more effort in this area would have made the experience as fantastic as it usually is. Will still be back.
Really enjoyed having lunch at Briars. Good prices, nice food and friendly service
beautiful lunch for my wife’s 30th we will be defenently back again
It was our first time visiting.
Lovely, warm and cozy late lunch dining, not realizing kitchen closes at 3.30pm, after a waiter advised once we arrived at our table at 3pm.
Quickly ordered meals.
Food was average. Great ambiance and garden setting and has a nice outdoor dining area.
I have been dining at this place for over 30 years and I have to say that this will most likely be my last. What was served to us would have to be the most stingy portions that we have ever been served up at any restaurant. My wife had a pot pie that only had three chunks of veal in it and what my mother and I were served in terms of a 'the roast' (two slices of beef brisket) was very disappointing. The salad bar consisted of three types of salad and potato bake. Such a shame... On the positive side the service was great as too the desserts. They'll need to pick up their act if they want to remain a must do destination in the Southern Highlands.
It was our first time and i was so impressed with the service and the food! There was 10 of us and every meal was fantastic! We will definitely be going back!
Really enjoyed the meal and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
With our anniversary we decided to book with a local restaurant with a good food selection and a friendly atmosphere which the Briars ticked all boxes
The food and service was great. Child friendly. It was a little loud to have a nice conversation at your table.
Loved the ambience at Briars - good food - excellent service - quiet table near the window. We were glad we made the choice to dine here - weeknight was not too crowded, and menu choices were good.
very considerate staff placed our small family group into a room by ourselves, great fun.
We visit Briars at least once a year when we travel down to Bundernoon and Bridgaboon. I am sad to say, this year, we were disapointed with the service and lack of attention to detail.
On our arrival, 4 wait staff walked past us without any acknowldgement. When we went to order our 2 Roasts of the day- Pork, we were informed that there was no more baked vegetables ( how could you run out of baked veg!), but we could have chips, we ordered one roast and because I was not intersted in chips, I ordered the Lamb rump with asparagus, eggplant puree and roasted tomatoes.
The salad bar has been simplied, which is fine, but the pear and rocket salad, not dressed, also had been mixed with the petita and orange salad from the neighbouring salad.
When our meals arrived the roast had baked vegetables, which we were suprised to see, especially afer they said there was none left, the crackling was not crackling and there was no apple sauce! (who serves pork with no apple sauce!). The lamb was cooked nicely, the fat rended, although the tomatoes were not roasted and the eggplant puree lacked something to me, like seasoning and acidity.
We ended our night with the tiramisu and creme brulee which were both very nice. The coffee was also good.
WE STAYED OVERNIGHT WITH A BREAKFAST PACKAGE AND DECIDED TO DINE AT THE RESTAURANT AT THE INN. WE HAD A COUPLE OF DRINKS AT THE BAR .GOOD SELECTION ON TAP AND A GOOD WINE LIST.THEN WENT AND HAD DINNER WHICH WAS EXCELLENT.BREAKFAST WAS DELICIOUS.ACCOMODATION WAS THE BEST.WE WILL BE BACK.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Great atmosphere. We had a very good Mt Moric Pimot Moir from Geelong amd the grass fed beef and duck was excellent all cooked to perfection.
We drove from Sydney to bring our grandson for lunch .. His fish and chips where disgusting .. Served on the smallest plate and the fish was tough and watery and bitter and The serving was too small .
. . our meal was rib eye and was eatable . The salads are not very nice ..
Sorry but this place used to be one of our favourites .
The girls where very friendly. The manager was nice as well .
We had never been to briars inn before, when we were taken to our table and the staff member put our menus on the table at no stage did he inform us to order drinks you go to the bar and the same for food. (We were seated in a corner with our backs to the order here sign etc. ) When the menu was placed in front of us we thought a waiter will take our order, it was only when I realised there were no wine glasses on the table and no wine list included with the food menu I became aware of what we had to do. He should have asked us had we been here before and tell us the setup. Having said that the food was amazing, very impressed and a lovely relaxing atmosphere!
Has improved, but serving sizes are a little small, and salad bar not as good as previously!
Good variety on menu, food well cooked, service to table good and good bar facilities - great desserts.
From arrival till the end of the night our group had a fantastic experience.
Zac and his team gave excellent service, the food was very good and the range of beers on tap excellent.
Great place for Sunday night dinner. Very few places open.
Good and service exceeded expectations
Wonderful venue - service was quick and friendly and food delicious!
Fabulous establishment with long history lunch menu very good but for me not wow however I will return as value is good and friendly, welcoming & friendly staff are outstanding.
Great ambiance outdoors enhanced by a perfect evening (weatherwise). The seating is nicely spaced so that you can hear your friends and enjoy the delicious meal in a lovely 'country' setting.
Food left a lot to be desired! Meat not cooked - raw in the Centre. Had to be sent back to the kitchen. Salad bar - over ripe very sad looking salad. Not fit for consumption.
