ENJOY THE BUZZ OF BROWNS ANY TIME OF DAY In the heart of the city, stylishly situated in a converted wing of the old Addenbrooke’s Hospital is Browns, Cambridge. A stunning Virginia creeper frames the entrance and there’s a beautiful outdoor terrace area. We’re close to the Fitzwilliam Museum with its arts and antiquities collections and the River Cam, famous, of course, for its punting. Come and join us for a cocktail. Our Bloody Marys have a cult following in Cambridge, but we have dozens more to choose from!

Tasty coronation cauliflower aloo for a main and mixed nuts with craft beer to start, all arrived rapidly. Good ambiance, a bit difficult to get noticed when I wanted to pay, not cheap but reasonable value.

as always.. lovely service and lovely food. we had tea in the afternoon and then remained to have an early dinner. not at anytime did we feel rushed or like we had to leave after 2hours. so that was great.
ordered the fish and chips. fish was a bit oily and not sure why chips are just thrown on the plate - and not better presented?

but overall a lovely afternoon / evening with (american) friends who also really enjoyed it.

We arrived for our table booked at 7.30pm & it was very busy & very noisy. The lady who greeted us apologised for the noise as they had a large amount of parties (mainly hen do’s). This could have meant slow service but it was actually very good. Lovely, efficient waiter. The menu has something for everyone, we had starters, the scallops were beautiful. Our mains were just as prompt, hot & perfectly cooked. The evening was very enjoyable & everyone in our group said they’d go back.

Lovely int design and service! Nice food and cocktails. Superb bar. I like that they play the grand piano some times. A bit too noisy at that Saturday.

Hadn't eaten here for a while... turned out to be a real treat when we did. Very busy with lots of celebrations that evening, however service and food was great. Wide choice of menu and everyone's meals were well prepared and presented. Would recommend a dinner here anytime.

Interesting vegan options. I tried the coronation cauliflower for the main which tasted excellent, well spiced and a good combination of coconut yoghurt raita, lentils and spicy cauliflower and potatoes. The only negative point was that one of the potato chunks was not properly cooked. I was not asked if my meal was ok which usually I find annoying but in this case this minor issue could have been mentioned. Olives to snack on first with a good craft lager (Camden Hells) and an interesting stewed plum with vegan ice cream for pudding. Not cheap (£30) but I certainly enjoyed the main (a more limited 2 course menu for £12 is available before 7pm).

Very good food, large table provided for our large family graduation party. Excellent service, attentive and fast, and very patient with our late arrival due to long distance travel of some relatives. One niggle was that the music was too loud forolder relatives with hearing problems. But the atmosphere and decor definitely had the approval of our new graduate and her sister. Thank you for making our celebration special (and managing to get a great photo of the whole family!).

Afternoon tea at Browns is excellent - elegant, plentiful and delicious variety of savoury and sweet goodies. And at 4pm, it was nice and quiet. We were also asked about allergens beforehand. Mini-scones had been baked a little too long otherwise would have been 5 stars! Apricot jam was a bonus.

Great atmosphere and even though we had 3x children with us there was enough space for them to move around a bit without disturbing other tables. The service was a bit slow but once the food came it was good

Lovely food, on valentines Day! Very pleasant server who unfortunately was so focused on my Coeliac, she accidentally misordered my husbands entree, so both had to be redone. No big deal, but is why I have 4 stars

Very hit and miss!
Ordered food and drinks and was disappointed to receive starters before drinks. To make matters worse, our main course arrived before we had finished our starters. Food quality was generally good but visit was spoiled by poor service which was way below par for an establishment of this nature.

Browns at Cambridge was formed in part of the Old Addenbrookes Hospital long ago and has maintained a good standard of casual dining.

A disappointment. It took 45 minutes for any food to arrive. Disconcertingly it was our main course rather than our starters! When the starters did arrive they were ok but the salmon fish cakes were a little light on salmon. The chicken and mushroom pie was acceptable but not brilliant and the crab ravioli was tasteless. The waitress was apologetic but the problems were not her fault.

I had booked the restaurant for many weeks in advance, to celebrate my graduation. We arrived (after a tiringly long and hot day) at 19:25 for a 19:30 booking and were not seated until well past 20:15. The front of house team kept saying that the table we had been "allocated" was not vacated - yet there were several empty tables to be seen.
When we were eventually seated, at a table for 9 (we were a party of 5) in the far back dark corner, next to the kitchen doors and the bar - my guests were conscious of the time and so we were not able to order a full 3 courses as we had hoped.
I asked the front of house if we could sit in one of the green rounded booths (which remained empty for the entirety of our visit), which was well lit, and not next to the noise of the glasses being cleaned at the end of the bar, but apparently it had been "allocated".
I ordered an Aperol spritz - but the bar had run out - they 'went next door to try and find some', but were unsuccessful...
I was so so disappointed with the service, the demeanour of the front of house staff who kept saying 'five more minutes, five more minutes', and the general overall feeling that everything was inconvenient; that my once favourite restaurant is now one I don't think I shall visit of my own accord again.

I booked a table here for my son's graduation on the basis of the reviews on this site. However we were very disappointed with the food - we ate off the graduation menu and the only meal that was worth eating was the pork belly. The steak frites eaten by 3 of us were obviously pre-cooked and reheated as barely tepid and all three of us were ill that night. Lobster risotto has 2 pieces of lobster in the whole bowl. We then were charged full price when we had booked through open table with their offer of 2 courses for 11.95 - took over 20 minutes to finally get a reduced bill (although still higher than promoted offer). Wouldn't recommend apart from the nice waiting staff!

Lovely setting and good atmosphere. Excellent food but sadly let down by the service and the very “cosy” seating arrangements as very close to 2 tables and could hear everyone’s conversations and chairs were very close so people struggled to get out for the loo etc which is not ideal. Service also very slow and we had to ask a few times for our plates to be cleared and for a dessert menu to be bought. Quite a few tables close to us also experienced a long wait for their food and for their plates to be cleared.

Browns is an old, well established restaurant in Cambridge in a gorgeous building in a very beautiful part of town. Our waitress was lovely, very friendly and helpful with menu recommendations and very attentive. The main let down was our food, my mushroom tagliatelle had clearly been sat on the pass for a while and had gone very dry; as was my husband's roast which also lacked in flavour. My cocktails were very nice though, especially the Blackberry Fizz. I would go back but perhaps in a smaller group so the food isn't hanging about for so long.
