Browns - Kingston
A warm busy Friday ... a private party was underway , so service not immediate .. but still friendly polite & welcoming . Table we were seated at not brilliant.... as a walk way for staff & customers , so became annoying . But it was busy & normally we don't experience any problems.
Otherwise a pleasant evening !
Lovely location, food was good- let down by terrible state of ladies loos
Family brunch in the sun by the river - great location, friendly service and good brunch menu.
On arrival, a few of the tables hadn't been cleared. We were told that 2 of the dishes on the menu were not available (chicken schnitzel and fishcakes, although the latter was reinstated a bit later on and we were informed). Then when we ordered, one of the party asked for the half roast chicken and was told that wasn't available either. Not very good for a Sunday. I ordered a pie, which was just a dish with a crust on top and a dish of gravy. I wasn't given a spoon and gravy is not easy to eat/drink with a fork. I know I could have asked for a spoon, but that's not the point. The staff were friendly and the waiter was good. The good is nothing to write home about and the drinks menu is ok. I would not rush back though.
When we first arrived at 12.30pm it was very quiet and lovely. Towards the end of the meal two women arrived with their very noisy children, who appeared to run riot and do exactly what they wanted!
We were waiting for two more people to arrive before ordering, but there was no hassle to get on and make the order at all. The food was absolutely delicious when it arrived. There was very little waiting time. It was my birthday and the staff bought on a wonderful pudding for me, which was a total surprise - it was so lovely! It is a great restaurant along by the river. Everything was just perfect. Thank you so so much for a great time.
Very friendly welcome and well timed service. Delicious food with nice healthy options
A good place to meet up with friends.
Staff friendly - food good and fast to arrive.
I would go back again.
An enjoyable lunah. Waiting staff were very attentiveasy and knowledgeable. A little noisy with several children and parents using the restaurant during half term. Would return
Nice restaurant, good food , would recommend but not in any special rush to go back.
Nice setting by the river.
The service was attentive, the food was great and the live musician made all the difference to the ambience.
Fillet steak was questionable more like rump! Very small and thin. Also overlooked.
Only had one waitress and the poor girl was rushed off her feet!
I’ve been here before and had a much better experience
Probably the worst dining experience in any restaurant ever! 7 of us including my friend’s young 1 year old.We had just sat down when the “manager” Daniel (who requires more training on his people skills) came over to us and said “just to let you know, there are twins sleeping” (directing his comments to my friend and her 1 year old son). We asked him what his point was and he was very rude and blasé and said again “There are twins sleeping”. We had literally been in the restaurant all of 5 mins! To talk rudely and imply we need not to talk or keep our kids quiet (when they had not said a thing) is extremely rude and put a sour taste in our mouths. We promptly got up and left the establishment. Even the staff were embarrassed and apologised on their “manager’s” behalf. Lucky for us Cotes had availability, amazing food and amazing staff! Browns could learn a lot them and really need to look the people they hire. I suggest demotion to waiter and full retraining for 12 months so that Daniel can understand how to interact with people especially those eating at his establishment.
The venue was great and very child friendly ! They had someone playing the piano all night which was lovely. The food was also very good. My only complaint would be the service. Sadly that was really slow they took forever to clear our plates after each course.
We had booked a table for five people for lunch. Two of our party got stuck in traffic and arrived 30mins late. We knew that was to happen and advised our waitress. She couldn’t have been more friendly and simply advised we started with some olives while waiting. When our party was fully complete we were all impressed by the quality and presentation of the food.
Would definitely go again!
We went here for the New Year's Eve set menu, it was really good and the waitress was super. Will definitely come back to dine off a set menu for a themed night in future.
Enjoyable Sunday roast.
Having booked a reservation at Browns because of the two courses for £11.95 promotion shown through Open Table. We were really disappointed to be told this offer was not valid after 7pm, even though Open Table promote this offer after 7 and it was included on my confirmation email. Browns wouldn't honour the promotion which in my opinion is false advertising. The food and waiter were nice but I feel the restaurant should have honoured the promotion as it is a mistake made by them. Had we known, I would have booked an earlier table. Open Table should check all offers they are marketing through their app are correct to avoid disappointed diners.
It was my friends birthaday which I mentioned when booking.
Was not acknowledged at all, even a candle in dessert or a complimentary liquer after the meal.
It was so noisy as well as next to a huge table and there were only 3 of us so hard to speak and listen to each other.
Reliable local restaurant and bar with good views of the Thames
Good food, good service. Tiny dining chairs, consisting of a small circular seat and identical back; simply not made for a man of 110kgs to have a leisurely lunch on!
A gentle warning - if you visit on a Saturday evening!
I really enjoy going to Browns. The food is invariably good as is the service. We went with some friends on Saturday night - friends we hadn't seen for years so we were looking forward to a good chat. Alas that proved very difficult as the pianist (though very good) was playing so loud (presumably amplified)throughout the evening that it was extremely difficult to hold a conversation. We were sitting at least 30 feet from him so it was even louder for those sitting nearer to him.
We definitely would continue to recommend Browns - but not if you are going on a Saturday evening and are looking forward to free-flowing conversation. A great shame!
Plenty of room, bustling ambience , friendly service and a varied menu, with great setting looking over river.
